Could you fit an IPhone 6s in the zippered section of the pouch?

I just tried this with my phone. It fits into the pocket, but is tall enough that you won't be able to zip it closed.

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the opening?

I would measure it for you, but I left my gear in my brothers car the last time we went climbing. I think it's about 4 inches in diameter, big enough to fit one hand in at a time. Also I keep two chalk balls in there at once, the old ball (which is worn down from use) and a new ball. Hope this helps. Happy climbing!

How well does the bag close?

It closes pretty well. I keep it in my backpack when I'm not climbing and it doesn't spill any chalk.
