Foam are MUCH better!
Let me start by saying that I've used the Surefire ear plugs for almost 2 years now for under my motorcycle helmet when I'm riding. I don't use them at the gun range or anything else other than wind noise. When first going with the Surefire's I bought a set of MEDIUM EP4's. These have the rubber "Christmas tree-like" ear pieces. I really like this product and, at first, they fit my ear very well. Unfortunately, they would move around when turning my head with my helmet on. It got to the point that I couldn't keep them in place. Since the ear piece that goes around the ear is great I figured to try a LARGE and ordered the EP3's. These have the same style outer piece, only larger, and a somewhat differently-shaped, rubber ear canal piece. Looks like a tiny mushroom only it bends to "follow" into the ear canal. While these worked better I started noticing the same issue with them sliding around inside of my helmet. In addition, the LARGE outer piece would irritate after a few hours. I guess I can contribute this to my ear canal being large while the outer part of my ear is a medium. So, I've been using the other brands for a few months (the "Christmas tree" type with the string on each end and the longer tube coming out). And although I like these cheaper, more effective rubber ones the fact that the Surefire's fir so well into my ear AND have the noise-reducer, optional plug...I just had to try their foam ear plugs. I just received them today in the mail and could IMMEDIATELY tell the difference! Not only do they fit perfectly but the ambient noises are distinctly reduced, all the while being able to hear voices and other sounds without a muffled sound! I cannot say at this point how well they work while riding a motorcycle and under a helmet but I have a good feeling with these. The foam plug part feels a lot thicker than the rubber ones, thus covers my entire ear canal. I put them in the first time and did NOT have to adjust them. They just slid right in and the noise was reduced. I've pulled them out and put them back in a few times and, so far, every time they simply snug right in! These came with an extra set of foam plugs that can easily be removed from the main unit. I'll be riding tomorrow and unless they don't work any better than the EP4 and EP3's consider this review a 5-star! (If not I will edit my review.) ***UPDATE: After riding a few days with these earplugs...100% better than the EP3 and EP4! With the foam for the ear canal, these Surefire's stay in my larger ear canal! They muffle a lot of wind and engine noise, yet I can still hear my Sena radio nice and clearly! The only issue is more from my helmet, as it's a tight helmet and when I put it on it tends to slide on my ear and pull the Surefire's out. Luckily, I'm able to get a finger through the helmet padding and push them back in. VERY SATISFIED!!!

Great for motorcycle riding
Got these for riding my motorcycle and they work great. These do a great job reducing wind noise when riding. Good quality as youโd expect from a Surefire product. Iโve lost other ear plugs when they came loose after removing my helmet - the main reason I got these. Since there is a cord connecting them, it substantially reduces the risk of losing them.

Great all-day earplugs
I mostly use these for long drives in my old cabover truck with non-existent sound deadening inside These are the comfiest ear plugs I've worn. The rubber 'hook' like bit does the most to hold these in place, so the foam itself just needs to lightly seal the ear canal itself. Less outward pressure makes these much more comfortable for long wear time vs normal foam plugs The hole in the center is great for 2 things: It makes things sound less muffled. Less like your heads between 2 pillows and more like you're listening to the world through headphones. Does a good job letting quieter sounds in while deadening loud sounds, almost like an equalizer. It greatly reduces what I can only describe as 'swamp ear'. When you wear headphones or ear plugs all day and it feels like you got water in your ear or something The only downside to those open holes is a small whistling sound when you walk. Only at walking speed, though. Driving with windows down doesn't cause it. Kind of obnoxious but really only noticable when things are relatively quiet. They are closeable, but not easily while wearing them and negates the big positives of having them there The one thing I don't really like these for is sleep. It's not that they hurt or I can't sleep with them in, but it feels like the rubber hook digs in and feels uncomfortable and tender in that spot when I wake up. I prefer regular foam ear plugs for sleep

They simply work for the tiniest adult ear canals.
These are amazing. Comparable to Etymotic Research ER20s except you have the ability to plug the filters to get a 28db reduction in audible volume. You know these plugs are good because when you open your mouth, you can hear more through your mouth, kinda like when you're flying in an airplane, driving down the highway at 70mph with the windows open and the stereo on full blast, standing next to the speakers at a rave, operating a D9L Dozer, that sorta thing. I use these everywhere because they are so comfortable. When I want to fall into a deep sleep, drive down the interstate with the windows open and stereo blasting, at concerts, travelling with snoring roommates. I even use these when I do woodwork or clean up around the property with a leaf blower. Oh yeah, they work great when I go to the range. Everybody should get a couple sets of the EP7s for their ears just to have, in the right size of course. These were really well thought out and they simply work. I have smaller ear canals, so the ER20s from Etymotic hurt my ears just putting them in, but the Comply(tm) Ear tips are perfect and they expand for a tight seal. ***Keep in mind, you probably want to know how easy it is to unplug and plug the filters, I usually leave a 1/2 mm of my fingernails away from the skin when I trim them so I have something to pull out the plugs with. You also have to be mindful of your finger position and have tactile visualization skills to know you're pulling out the plug in the filter vs pulling the filter out entirely. People will rate it down a couple stars because of this, but seriously, this is the best solution for the product, and yes there's a learning curve, but afaic they work and they work as advertised.

Saw a youtube vid on these and gave them a shot. Works perfect for my motorcycle riding. You are still able to hear the bike but eliminate the whistling. Much more comfortable than industrial ear plugs which I have access to from my work environment but the cheap foam plugs drown out too much sound and are uncomfortable after an hour. Listening to my intercom with these plugs brings a much better balance also.
