This touching comedy/drama, based on the novel by Garth Stein, is told from the perspective of Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner), a golden retriever owned by race car driver Denny (Milo Ventimiglia). Not only is Enzo a steadfast friend to Denny, but also, eventually, to his wife (Amanda Seyfried) and daughter, all the while sharing his thoughts on the world around him. Review: FANTASTIC MOVIE Above The Love of Dogs & Cars! - FANTASTIC MOVIE! Anyone who loves a good heartfelt dog movie and is a car person will ABSOLUTELY Enjoy this film! It's a Great story that has many interests for children and adults. The flow of the movie never gets slow or confusing, very easy to follow along and never boring. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Review: A beautiful movie that explores the human/dog connection in a unique way. - The Art of Racing in the Rain was a wonderful movie for my husband and I to watch. I wanted to see it because I love Milo Ventimiglia who plays Jack Pearson on the show This Is Us. I was a bit worried that I would get upset because dog movies get to me especially if I feel like the dog in the movie wasn't treated well or the subject matter is about abuse. However, that was not at all the case with this movie The story is told through the eyes and mind of Enzo, the dog. He takes us through his life with Denny, an aspiring race care driver, from the day they met through his old age. We see him adapt to Denny's new wife and child as he gives us his thoughts about everything that is going on in their lives and how he sees humans from his point of view. He deeply loves his owner and, eventually, loves Denny's wife and daughter as well. I liked that this movie wasn't an intentional constant tear jerker and that there were light moments and a full story line about the human characters. Everything about the movie was done right in my opinion. Casting, Kevin Costner as the voice of Enzo, the way the entire movie played out... It was just beautiful. The ending was sad and uplifting at the same time. Of course, I had tears in my eyes throughout the movie but I am like that when it comes to movies about animals because I am a huge animal lover and truly feel they have a lot more going on in their heads than people give them credit for. This movie is such a nice change from all of the violent or foul movies out there. I am no prude and watch all genres but it was good to watch a movie that I could share with anyone from the oldest to the youngest and not be embarrassed by the language or scenes. Also, unlike some movies where the animal is the "main character", this didn't come off as corny or silly. There were a few scenes that elicited a chuckle out of us but, in general, Enzo came of as a real dog with real thoughts and feelings and deep love for his humans. If you're a fan of fast paced thrillers or action films, this won't be for you. But if you're an animal lover and want to watch a touching movie that gives you all the feels without seeming to try too hard, this one is it. I don't care what the critics have to say about it, The Art of Racing in the Rain is truly beautiful movie filled with touching scenes as well as gritty reality. I loved it. I am now going to read the book because I have heard there is so much more to Enzo's story than the movie could portray. I'm not quite ready to let this one go without soaking in more of the human/dog connection I just experienced.

Dog lovers will like like this but be prepared.
I loved this movie and the book. It can be very sad though. The first time I saw it was a flight cross country. The flight attendant saw how it affected me and was very kind. So when I watched it on Amazon I was ready I thought. It's still a good movie, especially for dog lovers.

Love, heartbreak, struggles, triumph, defeat - all witnessed through the eyes of a family dog.
Shown through the eyes of the all-seeing family dog (named Enzo, after Enzo Ferrari), the movie presents Denny Swift (a note-perfect Milo Ventimiglia) - a race car driver known for being able to handle racing in the rain. As Denny falls in love, marries, starts a family, and continues to juggle both his racing career and his family, Enzo witnesses it all. Through his eyes we see that Denny's ability to handle a wet racetrack lends itself well to handling the inclement weather he encounters in life. The metaphor of the title is really the point of the movie itself - the art of taking control of his own life and making his own way through all the trials and tribulations thrown at him. The ability to see it through, to not give up, to not panic, and to not over-correct. Enzo is capably voiced by a gruff Kevin Costner, and shows a sagacity and a way with narrative language that might bore the impatient and easily-distracted among us, but ultimately presents a world-worn wisdom worth witnessing. Denny's wife, Eve, is played quite ably by Amanda Seyfried. She's not given much, but she does a lot with what she's given. Newcomer Ryan Kiera Armstrong plays their daughter, Zoe, with an admirable range of emotion and craft for someone her age. The rest of the cast fairs well with what they're given. That said, this movie is focused almost entirely on Enzo and Denny. It's not a racing movie, but there's enough racing talk and footage to make fans happy without turning away non-race-fans. It's a bit slow, and much of it is on the bleak side, so it may not keep the attention of younger children. With that, I still recommend it for anyone willing to give it their time. While I'm rating it quite highly, it's a more subjective rating for me. It's simply more personal for me than it will be for many. For most, I'd say it would be a 3.5/5 or even a 4/5. For those of us who find that it hits home on a deeper level, it's a 5.
