would these work outside?

Hi there, Absolutely! The rubbery bottoms on each piece will assist with grip outside, as long as the ground you place it on isn't loose (dirt, gravel, etc). The pieces are injection molded, which means they are made under high heat and pressure and will therefore withstand outdoor environments. Is this good for a delayed 6 year old?

Yes I think so. Two year old grandson enjoys this as well as older sister. You can use as many of the pieces as they can manage.
