MAJORITY Eddington Portable Bluetooth DAB/DAB+ Radio with 11 Hours Playback

I was looking for a portable DAB radio for a reasonable price and found that there is bewildering choice of portable DAB radios available on Amazon. After a couple of hours of searching and reading reviews, I eventually decided on this radio - I'm pleased to say that I made the right choice! This is the first portable radio that I've bought since my childhood. . .way back! I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of build, ease of use and sound quality with this little radio. I don't have anything else to compare it to so maybe I'm being a little biased in my review, but hey ho, tell it as is it is! It really is small and lightweight and that's the beauty of it. I wanted something that was easy to carry in a suitcase or back pack, to take with me on my travels, and this fits the bill perfectly. The sound quality is excellent. OK it's not going to blow your socks off or have the deep base sound that you'd get from something 5x the size and price, but for what it is it does extremely well indeed. The sound is clear and the volume good enough to be easily heard from across a large room. It is light, portable, the buttons are easy to use and the screen although small, perfectly adequate. A fully charged battery will easily last for a full day's listening and it is easy to charge. The charging cable is a standard USB fitting that I use with a 3 pin charging plug with a USB port. There are 20 preset DAB channels that are easy to scroll through, an FM option plus Bluetooth which I haven't used yet so can't comment on. The reception has been perfect so far, even in remote locations. All in all an excellent little radio that I can recommend.

09/06/2023. I just wanted to up date this review. I have been using the radio constantly over the last few days and have been enjoying using it. So much so, I wrote to Majority to let them know just good a job they did with this radio. The following is a copy of what I sent them. It was a great radio. Hi As a geek who has a thing for radios, the Majority Eddington is by far the best DAB radio I have ever owned. For the Price I got from Amazon it is also the best value for money I have had in a very long time. It was so good I purchased, two one for me and one as a present for a friend. The sensitivity of the radio, the sound quality and general build quality is fantastic. The radio early fills a room with high quality sound, Is easy to use, the Bluetooth feature is excellent and an Colour display thrown in! The Colour display is a really nice touch, very clear. Battery life is exceptional. I cannot fault the Eddington in any way. Very good Radio, excellent value for money. I would love to see what Majority could do in a World band/FM/shortwave/ SSB/airband all in one unit. Build one of those and I would definitely buy it. What you have done with the Eddington design cannot be beat in my book. It is the best radio I have owned by a long margin. My original review is below: Great wee radio with big sound quality. Extremely well made very compact. The colour display is was to read. The case has a very nice feel and quality to it. I am very impressed with this radio. At the price it great value for money. So much so I got two one for me , one for a friend.

This radio really is pretty incredible. It is small and sounds great. The DAB receiver is very sensitive and pulls in stations with only a little of the aerial extended; rare in DAB radios. The sound is great for a small speaker. The display is fantastic and it looks great from a distance. The op system and firmware are also great. Worth noting that there are very similar looking much cheaper radios available on other sites that probably come from the same factory in China. I suspect the firmware of this unit is written by Majority (or a contractor of theirs) with demanding local markets in mind. The result is superior to the cheaper ‘clones’. I have experienced this with other products. The fit and finish is sadly not quite as good, there are slight (very slight) imperfections on the surface texture, the plastic feels a bit bendy and cheap and the little retractable ‘foot’ at the back is a bit flimsy. For most these are minor details and are massively trumped by the way the radio actually works. Majority have obviously been “inspired” by the older Sony XDR-P1DBP. Similar form factor controls and sockets nearly identical in placement. The Sony has very similar sound, a smaller older style lcd display and is more tricky to navigate as a result. But it’s fit and finish is second to none. For the Eddington to be perfect I would have had Majority spend some extra money on some harder plastic. However it’s worth noting that at Launch the Eddington’s price was 2/3 what it goes for now and an extra $2-3 on the case would have eaten into their margin. I hope that the way these radios have commanded a much higher price (speculators have been buying these and selling on other sites for nearly £100) has convinced Majority and maybe others that there is a market for really high quality little portables. Indeed the Eddington is very very nearly there! Overall I like the radio ….alot. Wish it was a bit more solid feeling but that’s prob just me being picky. Cheers. J

I wanted a replacement for an old AM/FM boom box in my garage. I have a DAB radio in my shed so I knew what to look for but there were so many DAB radios and a wide range of prices. I spotted the Majority Eddington DAB radio on Amazon and after watching a review video on youtube, purchased one. First thing, it is small, a lot smaller than I thought but that is not a bad thing. The radio is small enough to be slipped into a pocket. The Majority Eddington comes with a built in rechargeable battery, before using the radio I charged it up using a USB charger (micro USB connector, not USB-C). Once charged I turned it on to be presented with a smallish screen but one that is clear and large enough for the information needed to tune to a radio station (DAB or FM) or to view the bluetooth status. The setup menu is easy to navigate with about six main menu options. Once a radio station (DAB) is selected, the radio tunes in immediately. Press the OK button will cycle through information about the station from what track is playing, the genre, whether the station is local or national. the multiplexor number, frequency, the signal strength and number of errors, the data bitrate and day and date. The sound is a little tinny (lacking bass) but that is to be expected for such a small radio. After less than a minute you don't even notice. The radio has a small flip out stand on the back to prop it up on a shelf or desk. The only annoying thing I found is the power botton is very close to the charging point so it is a challenger to turn on when on charge. Overall I am very happy that I bought the Majority Eddington over some cheaper model.

This radio is quite small and portable, easily fitting into a coat pocket. Despite its size, it sounds very good, though it won’t out-compete even a modest music system or hifi. But then that shouldn’t be why you buy it. Volume can go quite high, with little distortion when on the highest setting. It is very usable, though there are a few things that could be better. The buttons are flush to the case and require some attention to avoid pressing the wrong one. I found it easier to press them with my fingernail as I found my finger tips a little too big, which meant that without looking closely I sometimes pressed the wrong one. Not a game changer, just something to adapt to. The colour display is great, but like older cellphones it isn't easy to see in bright light, especially when dimmed on standby. The display scrolls the DAB/FM radiotext vertically, which is easier to read, although it flips back to the start of the text a little too quickly. The colour display is very readable and clear, but I suspect that it consumes a little more power from the rechargeable battery than plain Black/White LCD displays. Reception will depend on the area of the country you live in and DAB generally is all or almost nothing, unlike FM. However, I had no problems with tuning DAB in my area. FM reception really needs a strong signal to avoid hiss, but even a top of the range tuner would suffer from that. Tuning stations on DAB was extremely simple, but FM has to be scanned through the frequency range, stopping only at the strongest ones. Once found, stations can be saved to one of 10 preset buttons for each of DAB and FM. Because of the radio’s size, there isn’t room for ten buttons (just no.1 and no. 2 and 3+) but setting and accessing nos. 3 to 10 is quite straightforward after you have done it once. Charging the built-in rechargeable battery is simple, especially if you have a spare (or left over) phone charger with a standard USB socket. Take out the phone lead (the other end might have a different plug type) and connect the supplied lead. Charging is quite quick (4 hours from completely flat), but the battery will probably last a good 8 hours of continuous use, perhaps more if it isn’t left in standby when not in use. The display dims on standby, though. The only other ‘but’ is that the aerial usually needs to be fully extended (unless you live close to a transmitter or its relay). It feels a bit flimsy and the screw holding to its mount feels as if it has come undone, although neither has actually let me down. None of these provisos would have stopped me buying this radio. It is excellent for what it does and well worth the reasonable price. I really like it.

Wow! Great reception, sounds loud, travel size, i am amazed on such great sound from a small device, Just brilliant! Hi, I have always been a fan of many big name Radios but due to some quality issues with some I moved over to Roberts Radio. Roberts makes brilliant radios. The reason I wanted to try majority was I always doing Diy, also in the Garden , listen to radio in bed and needed a small travel dab plus for Holidays which don't take up much space but sounds really good This radio I purchased, Edington is fantastic, great sound from the small unit, very easy to move around and the operating system is really easy to use, I am very pleased, its rechargeable and not bad battery life. I demonstrated this radio on the weekend to someone and they were also amazed. Well done Majority for a great radio

This is a superb radio at the price and it packs a punch well above its diminutive size. We live in a poor reception area for the Sound Digital and Digital One multiplexes on DAB+ and DAB respectively but, with careful placement, the radio can pull these in. The BBC and local multiplexes on DAB are relatively strong here and the radio handles these well. FM reception is fine and the Bluetooth functionality worked without a hitch meaning you can play sound sources through the radio from your phone or other compatible device. The user interface is intuitive and clear via the colour display but, if you need to use the handbook to help you, it's well written in plain English. I haven't tried the alarm function. Naturally, as the radio has only one speaker, listening is in mono. However the radio itself does decode stereo so, if you use the headphone socket with a suitable set of earbuds or headphones, listening will be in stereo. Beware though - in order to increase the station count on DAB and DAB+, a number of transmissions are in mono only. This is particularly true of the Digital One multiplex where several stations are in mono including two that particularly appeal to me, namely Absolute and Magic. Charging is via the supplied micro USB lead but there is no provided charger in the pack. You can listen to the radio whilst charging. Overall, if you want a well-built, very small radio for casual or holiday use with good sound quality for the size and price then you won't be disappointed by this little device (roughly the size of a small smartphone). It's a winner!

Don't know why I thought it would be bigger than it was. This is not a problem, but I do have a tendency to lose small things. I do so miss my hamster. I was a bit concerned when I first tried to set it up as it would not detect any DAB stations and only one FM station. It would appear the building where I work has a coating on the windows which blocks a lot of radio signals and also seemingly sucks the joy from your soul. I'm happy to report that, once I got it home and tried it, I was inundated with DAB stations to choose from. Sound quality is as to be expected for a unit of this size but ample for my needs for use on a small boat. Not sure why the little foot was included on the back. It can still fall forwards, so seems a bit pointless. A small hook up loop/point for a lanyard would have been more practical to allow it to be hung so that it may sway gently along to the music it emits. Display and menu system is very good. Easy to see and use. Being able to dim the LCD is a nice touch as this can save your battery power. Took me a read of the manual (always RTFM) and I had the setting of the presets process down quickly. I only used eight of ten slots. That's two spare if I should suddenly get religion and want to add a gospel station or two. The manufacturing quality is OK, but not great, so I question if it was worth the fortyish pounds I paid for it. Compared to other models you can get a more polished product for a few pounds extra. As this is not going to be on display in a show home, not really a concern for me. I look forward to many hours of use from it and, with a 3 year warranty as standard after registering, it should help with that in the event of any problems. We shall see (or rather hear).

Esattamente quel che vi serve se cercate una radio davvero compatta da portare in giro. Sta nel palmo di una mano, e nonostante sia un po' spessa riesce anche ad entrare nella tasca della giacca. Ovviamente l'altoparlante integrato non brilla per la qualità del suono, ma per le dimensioni che ha è più che adeguato e consente comunque un ascolto piacevole. Collegando le cuffie invece la qualità è ottima, e soprattutto non soffre del problema (comune a molte radio in questa fascia) per cui alcune radio DAB vengono riprodotte in mono anziché in stereo: su questo modello, tutto regolare e la riproduzione stereo in cuffia avviene correttamente.

Das Majority Eddington ist schlichtweg das DAB+ Radio, nach dem ich lange gesucht habe! Das Gerät wird in einer einfachen aber völlig ausreichenden Schachtel geliefert, die neben dem Gerät selbst die üblichen Garantie- und Konformitätserklärungen sowie ein mehrsprachiges Handbuch enthält. Das Gerät besitzt ein aus Kunststoff gefertigtes Gehäuse mit kompakten Abmessungen. Es fühlt wertig an., und ist etwas kleiner und leichter als ein modernes Smartphone. „Look & Feel“ erinnern an die kleinen tragbaren Transistor-Radios vergangener Zeiten – hier allerdings mit der Technik von heute. Das Gerät ist augenscheinlich sauber verarbeitet und äußerlich betrachtet im besten Sinne seinen Preis wert. Durch seine äußerlichen Eigenschaften ist das Majority Eddington für mich ideal zur Mitnahme an meinem Fahrrad geeignet (in meinem Fall mit einem separat erworbenen „SP CONNECT Universal Interface“ – welches fast zu 100% genau auf die Rückseite des Majority Eddington passt - und dem passenden Gegenstück am Fahrrad). Für einen mobilen Einsatz spricht auch, dass dieses DAB+ Radio selbst bei nicht komplett ausgefahrener Teleskopantenne meistens ausreichend gute Empfangsstärke aufweist (was allerdings auch stark von zuverlässiger Senderabdeckung im Verwendungsgebiet abhängig ist). Wasserdichtigkeit darf man von diesem diesem kleine Apparat allerdings nicht erwarten, da er natürlich nicht originär für solche Einsatzzwecke gedacht ist. Die (Mono-) Klangqualität ist meiner Meinung nach den begrenzten Gegebenheiten des eingebauten Lautsprechers angemessen und durchaus angenehm. Wummernde Tiefbässe kann man naturgemäß von einem Gerät dieser Größe nicht erwarten. Die meiner Ansicht nach völlig ausreichende Lautstärke ist in 15 Stufen über zwei Tasten an der rechten Gehäuseseite regelbar und weist auch in höheren Stufen kein verzerrtes Klangbild auf. Wer möchte, kann einen (Stereo-) Kopfhörer an die sich ebenfalls auf der rechten Geräteseite befindlichen 3,5 mm-Klinkenbuchse anschließen. Diese Funktion habe ich allerdings keinem Test unterzogen, sodass ich zum Klang des Geräts in diesem Bereich keine Aussage treffen kann. Auf der linken Geräteseite befindet sich der Ein- und Ausschalter sowie der Anschluss zum Aufladen des fest eingebauten und nicht ohne Weiteres austauschbaren Akkus. Als Anschluss-Art ist hier leider eine veraltete Micro-USB-Buchse verbaut. Hier würde ich mir einen zeitgemäßeren USB-C-Anschluss wünschen. Ein vollgeladener Akku sorgte bei mir bei mittlerer Lautstärke und häufig voller Helligkeit des Displays (im Rahmen des Tests) für ca. fünf bis sechs Stunden ununterbrochene Funktion des Radios. Das farbige, nicht spiegelnde und bei durchschnittlichen Lichtverhältnissen ausreichend helle, scharfe und gut ablesbare Display fällt für diese Geräteklasse ungewöhnlich groß aus, da es bis auf eine Reihe Tasten unterhalb des Bildschirms die rechte Gehäusehälfte komplett einnimmt. Angezeigt werden im obersten Bildschirmbereich neben der aktuellen Betriebsart (Digital Radio / FM / Bluetooth) die (durch die Radiosender synchronisierte) Uhrzeit und der Ladezustand des Akkus (leider nur als dreiteilige Balkengrafik und nicht als prozentualer Wert). Der mittlere Display-Bereich wird je nach Betriebsart unterschiedlich für Informationen des laufenden Programms eingenommen. In der DAB+ Betriebsart werden neben dem Sendernamen - abhängig davon, was der aktuelle Sender an zusätzlichen Daten bereitstellt - z. B. Interpreten- und Titelname sowie weitere Informationen angezeigt. Technisch Interessierte können sich bei laufendem Digitalradio-Empfang durch wiederholten Druck auf die OK-Taste unterhalb des Displays weitere technische Daten (z.B. Frequenz, Signal-Fehler und -Stabilität des aktuellen Senders) anzeigen lassen. Völlig unverständlich bleibt für mich leider, warum angesichts des tollen Farbdisplays das jeweilige Senderlogo nicht angezeigt wird – und Benutzer*innen sich stattdessen mit einem öden Logo der jeweiligen Betriebsart begnügen müssen. In der (derzeit = Mitte 2024 noch) brauchbaren FM-Betriebsart werden im Hauptbereich des Displays der eingestellte Sender, die aktuelle Frequenz und RDS-Daten zum Programm angezeigt, sofern diese vom jeweiligen Sender bereitgestellt werden. Die FM Betriebsart wurde von mir nicht weitergehend getestet. Die Verbindung und das Abspielen von Audio-Inhalten in der Bluetooth-Betriebsart gelang mit meinem halbwegs aktuellen Smartphone auf Anhieb, wobei das Display in dieser Betriebsart im Hauptanzeigebereich neben einem Bluetooth-Logo leider nur rudimentäre Basis-Informationen wie „Connected“ oder „Playing“ bereitstellt. Auf eine Anzeige von Informationen zum abspielten Inhalt muss man indes unverständlicherweise und schmerzlich verzichten, selbst wenn vom verbundenen Bluetooth-Gerät vollständig getaggte Inhalte übermittelt werden. Der untere Bereich des Displays ist weiteren System-Anzeigen (z.B. für den Sleep-Timer, Weckerfunktionen, Signalstärke usw.) vorbehalten. Gesteuert wird das Majority Eddington neben der bereits erwähnten Lautstärkeregelung auf der rechten Geräteseite über insgesamt acht weitere, logisch-funktionell bedruckte, prellfreie Tasten mit gutem haptischem Feedback. Die Tasten sind in zwei Gruppen am Gerät angeordnet. Vier Tasten mit mutmaßlich häufiger benötigten Funktionen (Aufwärts, OK, Abwärts und Betriebsart-Umschalter) befinden sich unterhalb des Displays auf der Vorderseite des Geräts. Weniger häufig benötigte Funktionen sind auf den Tasten an der Geräte-Oberseite hinterlegt. Die Tasten „1“ und „2“ sind der Speicherung zweier Lieblingssender vorbehalten. „3+“ ruft die Liste aller benutzerspezifischen Senderfavoriten (insgesamt je 10 Speicherplätze für DAB+ und FM) auf. Die Auswahl eines gespeicherten Senders erfolgt schließlich über Betätigung der OK-Taste auf der Vorderseite. Die letzte Taste am oberen rechten Gehäuserand ist mit „Menü“ und einem Schlüsselsymbol beschriftet. Ein einfacher Druck ruft das Hauptmenü auf und bietet in mehreren Untermenüs eine Vielzahl von Einstellungs-Möglichkeiten und Funktionen rund um den Betrieb des Geräts, die mittels der Auf, Ab, und OK-Tasten auf der Vorderseite bearbeitet werden können. Wird die Menü-Taste für mehrere Sekunden gedrückt gehalten, aktiviert das Gerät eine Tastensperre über alle Tasten und verhindert so unbeabsichtigtes Betätigen. Erneutes längeres Drücken hebt die Sperre wieder auf. Die gesamte Bedienung des Majority Eddington gestaltet sich meiner Erfahrung nach sehr intuitiv und logisch, sodass die Anleitung im Karton bleiben kann und nur im Zweifel zu Rate gezogen werden muss. Pro & Kontra ++ empfindlicher DAB+ Empfang ++ intuitive, einfach Bedienung ++ für die Größe des Geräts guter und nahezu verzerrungsfreier Klang auch bei höherer Lautstärke + großes, scharfes, nicht spiegelndes und gut ablesbares Farbdisplay + lange Akku-Laufzeit + ansprechendes Design mit wertiger Haptik + angemessener Kaufpreis - fest eingebauter, nicht ohne Weiteres wechselbarer Akku - veralteter Mini-USB-Anschluss -- trotz sehr gutem Farbdisplay keine Anzeige von Senderlogos -- In der Betriebsart Bluetooth nur rudimentäre Funktionsanzeige, keinerlei Info-Anzeige zur abgespielten Audio-Datei Fazit: Das Majority Eddington ist ein kleines feines Gerät mit aus meiner Sicht ausgewogenem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Das Potential des schönen und großen Farbdisplays wird leider nicht voll ausgereizt und auch die Bluetooth-Wiedergabe weist Schwächen auf. Die sehr guten Empfangs- und Klangeigenschaften, die Kompaktheit und das schlichte aber dennoch schicke Design machen das Majority Eddington dennoch zu (m)einem nahezu perfekten Begleiter.

Depuis deux mois et demi, je n'ai jamais eu à m'en plaindre et j'ai été assez surpris par la qualité vu la (très compacte) taille de l'engin. Les finitions sont sans fioritures, assez brutes de décoffrage, pour ne pas dire simplistes, mais au moins l'ensemble semble robuste. Et cette radio fait son travail, et elle le fait bien. Elle affiche le PTY de la chaîne de radio en FM et d'autres informations, supporte DAB (radio numérique) et Bluetooth sans problèmes. La qualité du son est très bonne pour la taille. Le plus impressionnant reste peut-être l'autonomie, ajoutez à cela qu'elle est rechargeable en USB, ce qui est un gros plus par rapport aux piles. Très facile à régler dans l'ensemble, menus en français, peut retenir une dizaine de fréquences FM en mémoire, mais deux sont accessibles en seulement une seule pression de menu. Les autres chaînes mémorisées sont accessibles via un menu, mais malheureusement seule la fréquence est inscrite, pas le dernier nom de chaîne reçu par la radio, ce qui rendrait la navigation plus aisée. Si vous cherchez l'autonomie, la compacité et la robustesse, n'hésitez pas.

Magnífica para su precio si se puede comprar en oferta. Buen sonido, buena recepción, buenos materiales, tamaño pequeño, diversas memorias, pantalla relativamente grande que permite menús claros... Merece la pena.
