Yes, it plugs in to the wall, it has its own amplifier, so no matter what your system is, this speaker powers itself, it's like adding a subwoofer AND a 400 watt amp. This subwoofer is definitely meant to be added to "high-end" sound systems.

Would the spiked feet damage linoleum floor surface?

Yes. The spiked feet of our JBL Sub 550P might damage linoleum floor surfaces, but you have an option not to attach the spikes as they come un-mounted on the speaker.

What is the warranty on this sub? My previous 2 JBL's died from amp failures, and a split warranty.

The one-year amplifier warranty is rather sketchy -- I highly recommend that you spend the $18 extra for the Square Trade aftermarket Warranty, as it will cover the electronics for an extra 12 months. From my previous experience with powered speakers, the likelihood of failure exists in months 13-24 and for the extra 9% cost (based on the $199 sale price of the Subwoofer) is a very good investment.
