Galactic's organic instrumentals maintain a stronghold among effects, loops and other modern electronic techniques. In the studio and on stage, Galactic displays a remarkable ability to present modern material with retrospective styling. Review: Awesome on a Disc - This CD has everything I want to hear at any given moment. I really like the band's evolution and inclusion of a variety of musical styles. Plus, I'm a huge Gift of Gab and Lyrics Born fan and this CD has a track with both! Review: Different but Worthwhile - This one is different from their earlier albums; instead of mostly instrumental funk jams with occasional vocal tunes from their regular singer, this album has a sampling of diverse artists, emphasis on alternative hip hop, with only an occasional interlude where the group is playing instrumentally by themselves. Who cares if it's different? It's a great way to make an album. This is the style they ultimately perfected with Carnivale Electricos . Each of the collaborators brings something different, but the title track and the Mardis Gras Indian track are highlights. Also, anything with Trombone Shorty on it, you should buy. The others didn't stand out by and large. The CD has a nice looking and thin slipcase, a bonus in my eyes. Recommended.

Awesome!!!!
Galactic is unlike any band I have heard. I remember hating being in my high school jazz band. These guys make jazz and funk awesome!!! I love how they mix it up with multiple artists from different genres. My favorite track on this album is Think Back. I'm a HUGE Jurassic 5 fan. Having these guys together is musical GENIUS!!! I highly recommend Galactic to anyone that wants to hear real music...

Galactic Triumph
One of the reviewers below needs to open his mind quite a bit, it seems... for to dismiss Galactic's most recent effort as simply a "rap" album is to do the band a great disservice. This isn't "rap", but hip-hop in the most classic sense of the word. I've always felt that Galactic's dynamic grooves would be complimented by talented MCs, and the group has selected some of the finest in underground hip-hop to collaborate with. Lyrics Born, Ohmega Watts, and Lateef (among others) bring their A-game to the table, and the result is an explosive funk/rock/hip-hop fusion that hasn't been seen since the heyday of The Roots. My only (tiny) issue here is that the instrumentals are too short (some only amount to skits), and the album could have been rounded out nicely by their expansion, or perhaps by the inclusion of more of the ensemble's signature songs, like "Tuff Love". Five stars to Galactic for bringing some class back to hip-hop, and also for rising above their oft-perceived status as a mere jam band... they are clearly so much more than that.

Galactic Never Ceases to Amaze Me
If you thought "Ruckus" was a divergence away from Galactic's Roots, once you get an ear full of From the Corner to the Block, you will understand that Ruckus was simply a transition album...a mixture of vocal and instrumental, and that we have just scratched the surface of listening to what Galactic is capable of producing. Be that has it may, if you are a rigid music listener and expect to hear the same redundant sounds, then in my humble opinion, you shouldn't even have the right to listen to Galactic. How do bands like U2, REM, Dave Matthews, Phish, and other "powerhouse" groups continue on after decades? It is because they experiment and adjust to the times...that's why! Galactic is not afraid to try new things, which is why they are rapidly becoming one of the best jazz/funk fusion jam bands of the 21st Century. And, the infusion of hip hop/rap into Galactic's set is not so much of a radical change as it might be. Let's not forget that the genres of jazz, funk, and hip-hop all share common roots in their history and culture. I for one welcome Galactic's new album...its fast, fresh, and creative.

From the Corner
Good album with some good guest appearances, it`s nothing close to what you would get out of a band like The Roots though.

Galactic is among my favorite bands. Their instrumental stuff is top notch, and many of the vocal tunes (like Tenderness) are great, too. Theryl Clouet left the fold for some reason, though, so they have been experimenting with different singers ever since. Credit them for taking risks, this album is nothing like their previous stuff. The music is heavy. There are a few instrumentals, but most tracks are sung by various MC's (? - excuse my lack of knowledge of hip-hop). A good comparison might be Street Sweepers' Social Club (with Stanton Moore on drums). In fact, Boots Riley sings one track here. If you like hip-hop and Galactic, you'll love this.
