I have big rust holes where metal meets the door seal on my outside fridge. would this be good for that? Anyone recommend a Rust Reformer putty maybe?

Doubtful, I have found that it is most useful filling small holes and other minor imperfections in metal applications. Hope this helpful.

I would give it a try, clean area of repair to bare metal. Layer it on, letting each layer harden. Sand it like bondo,in between layers. Then repeat till smooth. Should work fine.

Would this work on holes in a pole barn then sanded and painted?

Depends on the material your project is made of. Even if it is metal, you can use other epoxy fillers to fill holes. If you are NOT going to repaint after application and the material is metal, then YES, this is the epoxy you need. You should look for a hardening plastic or possibly wood filler, and sand after application, and then paint the area to match.

Is the finish smooth or rough? If used in a spring track, would the spring catch on it?

its a bit rough so you need to sand it down but its a tough to sand down.
