Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M555b

I just purchased one of these to use on a Macbook Pro. I also run Linux and Windows in virtual machines on this system.The Macbook only comes with two onboard USB ports, so I didn't want to have one dedicated to a mouse that could be bluetooth instead. The problem is that it's hard to find a Bluetooth mouse that isn't tiny and cheaply-made. I use this computer full-time to earn my living, so I'm particular about the quality of my hardware.The Logitech M555b is excellent so far. Specifically:1. OSX recognized it for ordinary usage "out of the box" with no driver. Connecting it was simply a matter of inserting the batteries, turning on the power switch, and pressing the clearly-labeled "connect" button on the bottom while the Mac was in Bluetooth discovery mode (System Preferences...Bluetooth).2. The drivers from Logitech, a free download from their website (do that instead of using CDs that come with hardware, so you get the latest version) installed quite easily and integrated smoothly into System Preferences. The driver lets you program each button on the M555b for whatever you want it to do. Since I use Linux (where the middle button is an implied "paste") and also run Blender (where the middle button is used for display panning), I programmed the "application list" button to instead be my middle mouse button.3. It supports left and right tilt on the scroll wheel, and both of these are independently programmable buttons if you download the drivers from Logitech.4. I prefer a smooth-glide scroll wheel. That's the default on this mouse. My wife likes a detent (clicky) wheel, and you can have that by pressing the wheel down to change its mode of operation. She tried it and likes it as well, so I'm ordering one for her Android tablet.5. The M555b is not excessively heavy, but it has a good solid feel to it. Unlike the previous mouse from a competitor which I tried and returned for refund, the M555b's battery compartment cover actually seems like it might last more than a month.6. This may seem like a small thing, but the blisterpack plastic is perforated on the back for easy (and safe) opening. How many of this type of product have you purchased and nearly amputated your hand trying to cut open the plastic packaging that's tougher than the product inside? Kudos to Logitech for actually thinking about the consumer in their package design.7. I tested it on a variety of surfaces, including woodgrain Formica, denim, the brushed aluminum case of the Macbook, and shiny soft plastic. It works flawlessly on all of these. It does *not* work on clear glass, but to be fair, the manufacturer does not claim that it would.It's too early to talk about reliability yet, but so far I'm quite pleased with this mouse. I do advise, if you buy one, to take the time to download the optional drivers from their website. The mouse works fine without the drivers, but you'll find it much more versatile after they are installed.This one's a keeper.

nice mouse, quickly connects, used with my JUMP app on ipad to control my laptop at home. small even for my small hands, scroll feels cheap. overall mouse is light

On my MacBook this works fine right next to the computer. On my Mac mini desktop setup, though, it's about 4 feet from the computer and it goes a little spastic and unpredictable, especially with a slow Internet connection (1.5Mbps) filling out online forms. I'll use it for the MacBook but relay on my USB wireless mouse for the desktop.

I don't know if it's a Macbook (late 2014 model) bluetooth issue or if the mouse bluetooth was just terrible. There were serious latency issues where the cursor would lag and stutter across the screen. Hooked up a wired usb mouse to my mac and had no latency issues at all. I've not tried any other bluetooth peripherals with my mac yet but I'd avoid buying this again. The mouse was comfortable to use but just not usable even for non-gaming.

I was concerned because the description said Mac only, but decided to take a chance based on other reviewers who said they used it with Windows. Yes, it works fine with my Win 8.1 laptop - it did lose the bluetooth connection a few times, but I think that's more an issue with the laptop - and it reconnected shortly after. Could be interference from the 25" monitor I have hooked up to the laptop.I downloaded the Setpoint software and drivers from the Logitech web site, and I notice that they have a note that this mouse will work with Windows, but may not have full functionality. So far it does everything I want it to do.It is small, but I like the smaller mice better, and I don't have small hands for a female - however, if you have really big hands you might want something larger.Overall a really nice mouse.

If you are short on USB connections then using Bluetooth is a great alternative.Installed very quickly in Windows 8.1.Overall good value for the money.

Bon, ce n'était pas forcément que je manquais de prises usb sur mon pc portable (j'ai d'ailleurs découvert récemment que en fait j'en avais quatre, puisque la prise e-sata bizarre fait aussi office de prise usb) mais je voulais une souris qui n'en encombre toutefois pas afin, à la base, de pouvoir connecter deux clés usb en même temps que mon téléphone qui me sert de modem. Affaire dont on se fout finalement complètement.Et bien mis à part que j'ai un peu luté au départ pour faire fonctionner cette souris avec windows 7 (n'installez rien! Surtout n'installez rien! Windows 7 reconnait très bien cette souris tout seul, il n'y a besoin de rien) il faut bien avouer que cette souris remplit très bien ça fonction. Du fait que je n'ai pas installé de logiciel de gestion qui mettait le bazar, je n'ai pu régler les boutons de la souris, et il se trouve que pour faire un clic de molette, il ne faille pas appuyer sur la molette mais sur le petit bouton qui se situe juste derrière. Je trouvais ça dérangent au début, mais au final ça évite de faire bouger la page par inadvertance au moment d'ouvrir un lien dans un nouvel onglet sur internet et ce n'est pas plus mal.Sans être extraordinaire de précision, elle est toutefois largement suffisante pour une utilisation de bureautique, voir même pour quelques jeux (pas encore testé avec un FPS mais avec des jeux de civilisations où il faut être rapide, je n'ai pas décelé trace d'énervement dû à un manque de réactivité de cette souris)J'ai testé la perturbation de la souris via le bluetooth de mon téléphone (galaxy s2 de Samsung) et ça n'a pas eu l'air de l'incommoder plus que ça.Je ne regrette donc pas cet achat, à partir du moment où j'ai compris qu'il ne fallait pas installer les drivers pour faire fonctionner la souris, et j'irai même jusqu'à vous conseiller de lui adjoindre des piles de type eneloop qui ne se déchargent pas lorsqu'elles ne sont pas sollicités. Après l'avoir laissé en jachère quelques temps, je me sers de cette souris pendant plusieurs mois sans éprouver la moindre chute de réactivité et sans recharger les piles, c'est appréciable.

Ho utilizzato per 6 anni con notevole profitto la versione precedente di questo mouse, il Logitech M555 ( wifi con dongle per la connessione al computer ), e ne sono rimasto pienamente soddisfatto. Poter liberare una porta USB mi faceva comodo e così ho acquistato questo prodotto.Il prodotto è ben fatto, anche se la qualità della rotellina centrale è inferiore ( non tantissimo, ma lo si nota ); non credo influirà sulle prestazioni ma fa bene saperlo per non rimanere delusi. E' più leggero della versione precedente, e ha 1000 DPI invece di 600, differenza notevole nel momento in cui lo utilizzate ( ho decisamente dovuto abbassare la sensibilità ).Utilizzato su Ubuntu 13.04 con pieno successo, non sono riuscito a fare il pairing con Windows 8, che pretendeva inserissi un pin numerico sul mouse ( ah, le meraviglie della tecnologia ). Viste le altre recensioni sono convinto di riuscire a farlo funzionare, ma non ci ho speso troppo tempo, utilizzando Ubuntu come sistema principale.Nel complesso se la durata di questo prodotto rivaleggerà con il suo predecessore, è un acquisto sicuramente da valutare, e i presupposti perchè sia così ci sono tutti.Come nota: il mouse precedente è ancora perfettamente funzionante, in ogni sua parte. La sostituzione deriva unicamente da una mia personale comodità, avere tutti i dispositivi bluetooth mi evita di occupare inutilmente una porta USB e di avere le stesse prestazioni. E dopo 6 anni si può anche cambiare un mouse :)

La rueda es suave, aunque el modo "contínuo" no lo encuentro útil, por lo que no lo uso.Si no se usa durante muchos minutos tarda alrededor de medio segundo en empezar a responder. Esto es lo bastante rápido para que no sea problema.El tamaño es el adecuado. No es tan pequeño como los ratones "de portátil" que resultan incómodos.Viene con dos pilas incluidas. El peso es debido por completo a las pilas. Los ratones con cable son más ligeros y, por ello, más cómodos.Lleva un botón para hacer middle-click que hay que usar en vez de apretar la rueda. Una vez te acostumbras, es más cómodo. Apretar la rueda fuertemente sirve para cambiar el scroll entre contínuo y por pasos.Hace "click" muy bien, sin dudas ni repeticiones. El click hace un poco de ruido, lo que ayuda a confirmar que se ha hecho, pero no es escandaloso, lo justo para oirlo cuando hay alguien hablando al lado.No tiene ninguna lucecita que confirme que está conectado. El "laser", no se ve.Sobre un pad es perfecto. Sobre papel blanco o una mesa lisa pierde muy poco de precisión y es perfectamente usable.El software que lleva se instala y funciona bien en windows 7. La configuración por defecto, para mi, es la adecuada.No puedo opinar aún sobre la duración de las pilas. Abrirlo para cambiar las pilas es especialmente facil.

Ich habe zwei dieser Mäuse bei mir im Einsatz, eine seit rund zwei Jahren (mit windows 7), eine zweite habe ich erst seit Kurzem im Einsatz (mit Windows 8).Ich kann daher auf eine gewisse Langzeiterfahrung zurück greifen. Danach ist Folgendes festzustellen:Die Maus ist qualitativ hochwertig verarbeitet und sieht edel aus. Die Druckpunkte der Tasten sind sehr angenehm. Die Maus verfügt insgesamt über fünf Tasten. Eine Besonderheit ist insoweit, dass das Scroll-Rad keine Tasteneigenschaft besitzt. Viemehr befindet sich hinter dem Rad eine Taste, die mit verschiedenen Funktionen belegt werden kann. Beim Drücken des Scroll-Rades wird dieses "ausgehängt" und ist freidrehend, also ohne Widerstand. Längere Texte lassen sich auf diese Weise sehr schnell durchblättern.Zwei weitere Tasten lassen sich bedienen, wenn das Scroll-Rad nach links und rechts gedrückt wird. Diese Tasten sind standardmäßig damit belegt, den Bildausschnitt nach links oder rechts zu scrollen, kann aber auch anderweitig belegt werden.Die Maus verfügt über einen Ausschalter, so dass bei längerem Nichtgebrauch Strom gespart werden kann. Weiterhin verfügt die Maus über eine Sleepfunktion, die nach etwa 30 Sekunden Nichtgebrauch die Maus in einen Schlafmodus versetzt.Der Batterieverbrauch ist übrigens absolut in Ordnung. Sofern man den Ausschalter nutzt (nachts oder wenn man sie sonst länger nicht braucht), reicht ein Satz Batterien mehrere Monate, auch wenn die Maus mehrere Stunden täglich genutzt wird. Die erste Maus ist bei seltenem Einsatz mehr als ein Jahr mit einem Batteriensatz ausgekommen.Die Abtastung auf einem beliebigen Untergrund (außer Glas) funktioniert sehr gut. Von Ungenauigkeiten oder springendem Mauszeiger kann ich nicht (mehr) berichten. Diese anfänglichen Fehler sind durch neue Treiber weitgehend behoben. Der Mauszeiger lässt sich - wie bei anderen Mäusen auch - sehr genau positionieren.Von Verbindungsabbrüche bzgl. der Bluetooth-Verbindung kann ich ebenfalls kaum berichten. Anfangs ist dies gelegentlich vorgekommen, der Fehler ließ sich durch ein kurzes Ein- und Ausschalten der Maus beheben. Bei Windows 7 sind diese Fehler durch die zwischenzeitlich erneuerten Treiber nicht mehr festzustellen. Auch mit Windows 8 läuft die Maus sehr stabil, Verbindungsabbrüche sind sehr selten und wiegen meines Erachtens das fehlende Kabel und den gesparten USB-Port (für den USB-Funk-Empfänger) auf.Im Unterschied zu Funkmäusen mit USB-Empfänger braucht die Maus, nachdem sie im Schlafmodus oder ausgeschaltet war, einen kurzen Moment, um sich wieder zu verbinden. Bei dem neuen Rechner geht dies sehr schnell, so dass es kaum auffällt, bei dem etwas älteren Rechner dauert dies einen kurzen Moment, der aber ebenfalls nicht weiter störend ist.Insgesamt handelt es sich um eine sehr gute Maus, die - jedenfalls für den Normalgebrauch - sehr zu empfehlen ist.Einziges Manko (daher nur vier Sterne):Die Software Setpoint ist nicht wirklich ausgereift. Diese ist erforderlich, um die Tasten frei zu belegen. An sich funktioniert dies sehr gut. Auch lassen sich die Tasten abhängig von verschiedenen Anwendungen mit verschiedenen Funktionen belegen. Allerdings sind diese Einstellungen verschwunden, wenn Setpoint aufgerufen wird, auch wenn keine Einstellungen geändert werden. Es handelt sich offensichtlich um einen Programmfehler, der sich allerdings schon seit mindestens zwei Jahren durch die Software zieht und bislang nicht behoben wurde.Bei Windows 8 tritt ein weiteres Problem mit der Software auf. Wenn die Funktion "Soft-Scroll" aktiviert ist, wird der Text in dem Windows pdf-Reader mit einer kleinen Radbewegung gleich mehrere Seiten durchgescrollt. Das Scroll-Rad ist unter diesen Umständen bei dem pdf-Reader nicht zu gebrauchen. Dieses Problem wird im Internet bereits umfangreich diskutiert, Abhilfe ist bislang nicht erfolgt. Bei Adobe-Reader Touch taucht dieser Fehler nicht auf.Mit diesen Einschränkungen bleibt es dabei, dass es sich um eine sehr gute Maus handelt. Wer die Tasten nicht frei belegen will, sondern auf die Standardbelegung von Windows zurück greifen kann, kann auch auf die Software Setpoint verzichten, so dass diese Probleme nicht mehr bestehen.Insgesamt: Klare Kaufempfehlung !

I purchased this mouse to replace my trusty Logitech V270, which has served me brilliantly over the last 4 years.Having recently switched from a PC laptop to Mac, I was looking for a mouse of the same size and style as the V270, but without the fuss or fiddle of a USB dongle.As with the V270, I find the M555b to be both practical and convenient, with excellent battery life.It's comfortable too (even with large hands like mine!).The mouse works well with Mac OSX (Leopard) Spaces etc... but you will need to install the Logitech software to make this work.Whilst it is expensive, I use my laptop all day long, so the saving on batteries more than compensates for the price premium.Overall an excellent product, and a worthy replacement for the V270.
