No it’s safe. Nothing sharp. I use it to measure my gemstones.

When display is set to inches, are results displayed as decimals or fractions?

This depends on the model. The low-cost version would measure 2-3/4 inches and display it as 2.75. The stainless steel version has a button that allows users to choose to show it as decimal inches like 2.750, fractional inches like 2-3/4 or decimal mm like 69.850. Fractions are based on the nearest/simplest 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64 or 1/128. In this mode, 1-1/3 inches would be displayed as 1-43/128, and a measurement of 0.245 inches would be shown as 1/4.

Can I replace the battery?

Of course dear customer. Every package has a battery in the digital caliper and 2 standby battery. This will ensure that you do not have to worry about battery problems while using the vernier caliper for a long time.

Does it turn off automatically?

The display will blank out after a couple of minutes. However, the difference in current consumption is negligible for LCD.
