Best value Intel processor.
This is absolutely the best value desktop processor that Intel has. For most people for most tasks, including most games, this Celeron is almost as fast as some older i7 processors. This processor is more than adequate for 95% of people. I needed to buy Intel for an OSX86-capable rig. This Ivy Bridge Celeron has low power consumption, which makes it great for something like a virtual currency mining rig, and it can handle all but the most demanding games. At the time of the writing of this review, September 2013, the G1610 is the only Intel processor currently on the market that is performance/price competitive with AMD. Should you decide you need something faster, and don't want to buy a whole new computer, you can upgrade to a much more expensive i5 or i7 LGA1155 processor later.

If you're hesitating to buy this processor, don't!!!
I built a rig that was $350 with a decent gfx card (Powercolor 7770 ghz ed.) and this cpu. I am absolutely blown away by the performance. So far, Tomb Raider, Planetside 2, and Dota 2 all run at a solid 60fps on high settings. Only when turned all the way up to ultra on TR and PS2 did the fps drop to 30. Temperatures stay at or below 40C when idling and do not even reach 60C on load. Most games on this simple rig play on a mix of high and ultra settings. I also do some music programming using software such as Pro Tools, Ableton, Reaper, Superior Drummer etc. and everything is fast. My sound libraries load quickly. Compressing and importing & exporting is a breeze. There is nothing that I do that this cpu can't handle. The efficiency and the price/performance ratio is unmatched by any other processor on the market, period. I am coming from a 1st gen Core i3 370m, and this thing blows it out of the water. That is really saying something, considering the 370m still holds up to any task today, with ease I might add. This processor is perfect if you are considering a build with a dedicated gpu. If you arent getting one & you are using a 1080p monitor, then I would recommend getting a Core i3 over this Celeron, as the integrated gfx here is the only downfall of this processor. At 1080p it plays choppy Youtube videos. However, as long as you buy a cheap dedicated card, this won't be an issue and you can save $75 on your gaming build by getting this over the i3 3220. I am so happy with my $43 purchase, and I can't wait to upgrade to a 3570k in 5 or 6 years :)

Can't beat it for price + functionality
This ain't your daddy's celeron. This is an ivy bridge processor, a subset of the newest i3 and i5 processors (at the time of this writing, 7/2013). I used this in a computer build for a friend who does nothing more than word processing, email, internet browsing, and watches a youtube video now and then. For her needs, this is the perfect processor at a fantastic price. It comes complete with the stock Intel fan & heatsink with what looks like really good thermal paste pre-applied on the bottom of the heatsink. It fits 1155 sockets and is 55W. I put this onto an Intel mini-ITX board with 4GB of DDR3 memory, new 80GB hard drive, little mini-itx case, and put in Windows 7. She loves her new computer, thinks she's died & gone to heaven after struggling with her 8 year old laptop for so long.

Bang for the Buck!
I bought this to replace my Brazos-based HTPC motherboard and CPU (E-350 to be exact). While the E-350 was just sufficient for media playback (and my CableCard TV with a bit of hacking), it did not have the muster for the additional tasks I wanted it to perform. For cheap I: - Host my TFS server - Host the content for my local network (HD MKV streams, music, etc) - Run a couple websites - Watch TV - Backup my local computers Granted, none of these take tremendous power, but this thing is substantially faster at ALL of them than the AMD APU (though, that APU was still cheaper... And would have been fine for media playback). Overall, 1000% satisfied. Fantastic CPU for an even better price.

Make sure you don't need a better processor
The Celeron G1610 is not a bad CPU if super cheap is what you want/need, but it does have severe limitations that you need to know about. This processor does not support Dual channel DDR3 1600 memory speeds. It will only run at Dual channel DDR3-1333. See the micro-architechture specs here: [...] That does not sound all that bad until you have a motherboard and memory that refuse to run at that lower speed and cause stability issues. Another downside to these lessor processors is that they won't enable PCIe 3.0 even if your motherboard supports it. Be sure that you're other hardware is compatible before you buy.

Very good cheap cpu for running the internet
Very good cheap cpu for running the internet. Will not work will for games. I got it for my young daughters computer i built her and has trouble handling basic games. My programs show the cpu as the bottleneck.
