The HDMI ARC in mode, allows me to use my vintage 1990's Adcom GFP 565 pre-amp with my modern SMART TV. ARC in/Two Channel analog out. I'm using the USB port on the TV to power it. It's that easy to upgrade to the 21st century. Remote control volume with this setup is also enabled...how cool is that!? M Review: Pops often, wife hates it - So this is one of the only products I could find that actually does volume control and ARC. I switched to powered (non-remote controlled) speakers in my living room and needed to get TV audio out in a way that was remote controllable and worked like a receiver. This fit the bill, but every time you turn on the TV or change the input, you get a few loud pops. I didn't want to risk damage to my speakers, so it's no longer in use. Note that this happens even if giving it constant power externally, as opposed to using the TV USB port. It's a good product aside from the pops, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Ehh, should have bought a new receiver instead.
I recommend just getting a new receiver that compatible with HDMI and avoid adapters. This thing makes some weird popping noice constantly when I shut the TV off. Iโm too lazy to figure out why. Works ok when the TV is on

Allowed me to keep using my external speaker setup on the new tv, but one thing worth noting...
I got a new LG UM7300 4K TV and was bummed to find out that it had NO analog outputs (only inputs) and the only external sound connection options were optical and HDMI ARC (and the horizontal brackets on the swivel wall mount block the optical out port). I thought I would have to get a whole new speaker setup but then found this lovely converter box and now I can keep using my Soundsticks with the new TV using the HDMI ARC. Take note: Some TVs have an "auto power" feature when it comes to connected HDMI devices and I found that it can cause issues with this box and I recommend turning that feature off to avoid problems. Sound would cut out and cause my TV to crash at times and I'd have to reboot it (the TV recognizes the device just fine but it comes up as a Vizio product in my inputs for some reason). I turned off the Auto Power Sync in the HDMI connection settings on my LG and the problem went away. I was going to subtract one star because of that glitch, but then realized that issue lies more with LG more than the manufacturer of this device. Definitely worth it if you have a speaker setup you use when watching TV and just aren't ready to part with it yet. And don't forget to change to PCM/LPCM on the HDMI ARC settings after connecting but before turning on your speakers! That noise it makes when attempting to process Dolby is not pleasant and almost made me poo myself. UPDATE! It is recommended that you turn off your speaker system before or after powering off the tv. If left on there will be a loud pop when the tv is powered on. To avoid this, turn on the speakers AFTER turning on your tv.

It works
I had purchased a similar product, but it was buggy, and even when it did work, I wasn't able to control the volume. I sent it back and purchased this one. I'm glad I did. It works perfectly, and yes, I can control the volume with my remote.

May not work with some TVs
I bought this for a 2020 LG. It did output audio but my tv remote could not change the volume (similar to an optical out, it X'd out the volume controls). It does however work as expected on my Vizio, so I may end up just moving soundbars and speakers around to accommodate. Edit: I found it simpler just to buy a Bluetooth adapter for my wired speakers instead

Does exactly what you want!
Works great with my powered speakers. The headphone jack allows a subwoofer plug-in without cutting out the stereo output. Exactly what I was looking for. Make sure you plug into the HDMI/ARC outlet. My tv has two HDMI outlets, but only one with ARC. Just needed to switch Firestick to regular HDMI outlet and this to HDMI/ARC outlet.

This actually does what I expected.
Tried another devise to interface my ARC HDMI port to my old amplifier with RCA inputs with no success. This product arrived on time and actually provides the function I needed. Reason for 4 stars...in order to get the volume I want, I need to turn the TV and my amp up almost to maximum. Not sure if the devise is the limiting factor if the ARC HDMI port has low volume output.

This device works as it states, but the sound signal is very noisy. However, it does allow for volume control with ARC...
