This is a great vacuum!
We were hesitant to spend this much on a vacuum. But we have realized that, in this case, it is well worth the money! We love this vacuum and it's been less than 48 hours; it's the best one we've had! Pros: Great for high pile carpeting, simple to use, awesome suction. We vacuumed our main room and saw immediately that it looked like a professional came in to vacuum. The carpet looked "fluffy" and brand new again. (We've only live in our house 10 months and are just starting to see heavy tread areas) Plus, we hear so many things getting sucked up that we would never had heard with our other vacuum. Just looking at the carpet we thought it looked cleaner. The Sonic technology really does work and it is noticeable. It vibrates the brushes to loosen up more dirt from deeper down. It switched very easily between hard wood and carpet. The vents in the front that allow more air for high pile carpets are easy to open and really make a difference. The pod you put in it to make the carpet fresh is a nice touch. It gives off a pleasant scent but it doesn't last for hours. Minutes, maybe. The only CON I see (which I really don't care about but others may) is there are no attachments for crevices, etc. It is truly just a vacuum. I don't mind since I have a duster for corners, baseboards, etc. Plus, this vacuum is so good that it will catch all that dust debris. I highly recommend this vacuum!

Perfect for soft, plush carpets AND good for bare floors.
My first impressions are very good of this vacuum cleaner. I even thought it even looked a bit sexy with the black and gold, then I remembered - it's a vacuum cleaner, not my favorite thing. I've seen a lot of people asking questions about this vacuum cleaner and will try to answer some here. I bought this particular vacuum mainly because it states it is designed for soft carpet. We moved from a house with hardwoods throughout, into a house with very soft, plush carpet as well as laminate and tile. I soon burned up my faithful 20 year old Kenmore canister vac with beater bar attachement. While looking for a replacement and seeing that other people were having the same trouble I had with my old vacuum not wanting to pull through the carpet, I realized that I had essentially killed my old vacuum by insisting it work beyond it's limits, and that I needed a different type of machine. This Soniclean Soft Carpet cleaner caught my eye. It is recommended by a couple fine soft carpet makers and it wasn't sky high expensive like some. It came well packed in the retail box. The use instruction booklet is pretty straightforward. The only assembly was attaching the upper handle and cord hook to the machine. An allen wrench is included. The cord is long and doesn't retract, just winds around the two hooks on the handle. I noticed that the cord and plug did not get warm while in use. I good sign. The included replaceable paper HEPA bag was already in place. ( I bought extra bags that are sold separately on Amazon as I'm not sure I can find them in my small town. It was $25 for eight bags.) The vacuum cleaner came with one scent pod which is filled with liquid and goes just inside the outer zipper bag in a special holder. Pull the silver seal tab and snap in place. I was skeptical of the pod because I am sensitive to a lot of fragrances, especially those like the plug in room deodorizers, but I thought I'd give it a try so I could include it in the review. It is a very fresh scent, slightly floral, but not overpowering at all. I only sneezed once while vacuuming the house, so that good for me. If you are sensitive you can leave out the pod. It doesn't affect the performance either way. It is very lightweight for a full size upright. They have used a heavy cloth with nice zipper instead of rigid plastic for the bag compartment and left off the auto cord rewinder. Those things add a lot of weight. The paper inner HEPA bag is also lighter than those messy plastic cups you have to empty, and is much cleaner to handle and dispose of. This cleaner self-adjusts to hard floor and carpets of different heights and seems to do a good job. It has a little foot button on the back of the head to lower the handle. Much better than some new ones I've seen where you just jerk it in and out of position. This handle will go all the way to the floor if needed. The front of the head is approx. 2 inches high, the back is 4 1/2" high. It's 14" wide at the front including a small rubber bumper. The overall height to the tip of the handle is 44". It is a little loud, especially on "carpet" mode. It isn't a high pitched squeal at least, like my old dying canister (should have been a warning), but I always use earplugs anyway so not a big deal for me. This vacuum does NOT have a hose and therefore no accessory tools. I may miss the tools that my old canister had, but I'll work around it with a hand vac. There are 2 air vents on the bottom front. Fully open is for the softest plush carpet that drags down most machines. Fully closed is for bare floors. You can open, fully close, or half close either or both to adjust suction and drag. I found that closing one halfway was perfect for my carpet. I also found that you don't have to reach down and close them for bare floors. It seemed to have plenty of suction at the setting for my carpet. It may lose a little suction as the bag fills, but so far it's great. It did a good job of cleaning and I didn't feel like it was struggling at all. I noticed the nap was standing up nicely after vacuuming, much better than with my old vacuum. It is fairly easy to push and pull. It does leave faint lines in the carpet, but those never bother me. It actually helps to see where I have been. The head has little brushes on the side front that help with edges. It seemed to do a good job around the baseboards. It has two speeds. First for "carpet/bare floors", second for "carpet". That sounds confusing, but it just means the beater bar that vibrates and helps on thick carpet will not be vibrating on the first speed. (The roller brush turns on both speeds). You don't want the beater bar on while doing bare floors and it's not necessary for low pile mats. Speaking of mats, I don't recommend using it on small lightweight rugs because it will suck them up and jam the machine. (guess how I learned that) If, however, the area rug or runner is big and fairly heavy, if you go at it on an angle instead of straight on, it won't pick up the edge so easily. I was very happy to note that the Soniclean didn't scratch my hard floors (tile and laminate) like my old canister vac's beater bar attachment did which caused me to have to change heads mid cleaning. The second, higher setting, "carpet" turns on the beater bar for thicker, softer carpets. The rocker type switch takes a little getting used to. I kept turning it off instead of just turning it down. There is a blue light on the front of the machine that pulses when the vibrator bar is turned on. I suppose to remind you to turn it off if you change to hard floors. It does not have a regular light though. It took less time to vacuum my house with the new cleaner (yay!) since I didn't have to switch attachments from carpet to bare floors. The whole house had a nice, light, clean smell from the scent pod. My carpets look better than ever and my bare floors are clean and unscratched. A very nice replacement for the vacuum cleaner I killed. I'll let you know if I still love it in a few months.

As smooth as advertised on dense carpet.
I did a lot of research to find a vacuum for dense pile carpet, its expensive so I kept putting of the purchase until now. I should have bought this long ago, it works fantastic without damaging the expensive carpet, I see now my other vacuums were not only doing a poor job at cleaning but not healthy for the carpet. My socks stay on my feet, no more struggle to push the vacuum, just smooth and easy, wow, if you spend money for good carpet make the commitment to buy a good vac.

Perfect Solution for High Pile Soft Carpets
After having new carpet installed, we went with the suggestion from the Mohawk Carpet information sheet and purchased this most excellent vacuum and received just yesterday. After quickly unpacking, I noticed how beautifully elegant it looked with the black/gold colors. I wasted no time in running it through the 1st floor of the house. From high pile carpet, to tile, to throw rugs which usually quickly get sucked into the vacuum, this product rose to the occasion for all our needs. I love the two speeds going from the floor to carpet and kept transitioning as I needed. Not to mention - the cord at 35' long - takes me a long way w/out having to unplug and plug in again! I was very happy with the suction power and although I was against a bagged vacuum will grow to love it and also included was a fragrance disc which I will reorder more. It's a bit awkward on the stairs because it's base is larger than the stairs, and there is where I wish there were attachments that came with the product. Yes I realize for a $100 more I could have purchased but was not willing to do so. I do wish for the price, we received extra bags but will order those in the near future. We are very happy with the performance and light weight product that did an excellent job!

It Works on Mohawk Dense Soft Pile Carpet
Just received this vacuum two days ago. It was recommended by the carpet manufacturer. (Hoover vacuums have too much suction and the highest setting still pulls on the carpet. I couldn't push it and eventually will destroy the carpet. Had to return). Tried the Soniclean on our new Mohawk carpet and it works fine with the vacuum vents fully open. It's not too heavy to push easily. It doesn't come with any tools, but who cares. It performs admirably on the carpet. Yes, it's pricey, but you should buy this vacuum if you have a dense, soft carpet. Was easy to install the handle with the Allen wrench provided. The cord is heavy, long and well-made. The bags are available on Amazon (sold separately.) I believe you will get 7 bags in one box. The are highly-rated HEPA filters Bags - expensive, but required. This is the vacuum to get for your high pile, dense carpet! 5 stars. (Note, we didn't try it on our hardwood floors (those get swept and mopped.) We also have no stairs, so that rating is N/A for our house.

Beware! Terrible Customer Service & Vacuum!!!
Since I just recently carpeted my entire apartment with 1" shag carpeting, I was looking for a highly rated vacuum. I had in fact, also purchased Soniclean Bags, but mistakenly for a different model. The bags cost $60. I bought the Soniclean vacuum at a "discount" for $279. (Used in "Very Good" Condition...Amazon Warehouse) I liked that the vacuum was "lightweight" at only 10lbs. When I asked the Soniclean Rep if I could exchange my bags for the correct bags, I was told the bags were "EXPIRED"! (Since when do vacuum bags expire? And if so, why is there is no expiration date stamped on the box?) I purchased a nearly $300 vacuum and they couldn't even spare a 50% refund? HUH? Not good customer service! Next I was told that this vacuum DOES NOT WORK ON SHAGS and to return the vacuum ASAP! It was really BIZARRE. The vacuum did in fact did work OK on my shags and even smelled good because of the Fresh Pods. I guess on the so-called "Soft Carpets" it would work better...MAYBE? But it had several downsides: 1) It is EXTREMELY NOISY!!! 2) It is MADE IN CHINA! I found that almost ALL modern vacs are Made in China, but not all cost $400!!! Why so pricey? 3) It is made TOTALLY of FLIMSY PLASTIC. Sure, It is a light machine but looks like it will DEFINITELY break down, jam or crack if it sucks up something "wrong". I could not find any solid metal components. After speaking to MANY, MANY vacuum REPAIRPEOPLE, they recommended 3 very solid brands: TITAN (Made in The USA), TITAN & MIELE (Made in GERMANY.) All close in price to The Soniclean. (THE BEST is RICCAR but VERY pricey.) I ended up with a very solid canister Miele (Made in Germany) for $350!!! It is quiet, lightweight and adjusts to ALL types of flooring--including STAIRS and CURTAINS! I supposed if your entire home is "Soniclean" carpeted, then go ahead and splurge...but if you want a vacuum that does more than 1 thing and 1 thing ONLY...get this vac. Nevertheless, Soniclean is OVERPRICED for $400! They need to sell this piece of plastic for under $200 or if not give some consideration to customers if they want to exchange for the proper vacuum bags. They lost me as a valued customer for a measley $30!!! Not good! : ( Save yourself a headache and get a LESS NOISY & MORE SOLID machine for a LOWER PRICE! : )

Keeps on Working
When our self-propelled Hoover vac gave out after a little over 5 years, I was afraid I wouldn't find anything that'd work with our plush carpet. I tried several vacuums from neighbors and family members, but on our carpet they felt like pushing large farm animals. So I gave the comparatively expensive Soniclean a shot and it worked, much to my relief. (I learned too late that Karastan was selling their Soniclean for $300. Same vac except for cosmetic differences.) It's reasonably manageable but sure doesn't get all floaty like the marketing pitch suggests. The self-propelled Hoovers we've used for more than two decades were easier to move on our 1/2" soft pile, but they're no longer manufactured. Anyway, I tried a number of combinations opening the two vents. There wasn't much distinction operating the vacuum between one combo and another. But I was using the "carpet" designated setting rather than the middle setting on the switch titled "carpet/floor." This latter setting doesn't use the fairly loud, sonic. shake-up-the-deep-dirt function. Yet the vacuum became quieter and comfortably easier to maneuver. Moreover, the suction (using a 1 1/2" opening between the two vent sliders) was still surprisingly strong. And I experimented with crumbled crackers, salt, and talcum powder. Sucked each up in one pass. It was even stronger than the 22 lb. Hoover on our flat wool entry rug. (Of course it's a new vacuum cleaner with a new bag.) I do find two irksome elements: (1) the cost of the bags (too bad there's no competition for them in almost-as-effective thick paper such as EnviroCare bags) and (2) the too-long 35' cord, which, when the vacuuming is completed you wind and wind and wind.. The above was written in October, 2022, and now in January, 2025 the vac still works as it did when new. I vacuum once a week and have yet to use up the original carton of bags, even though I change out the old one before it fills up to the change-bag line. I change when the bag interior feels coated with dust/dirt. It's now July, 2025, and the vac still functions well for cleaning as before, but the NOISE! It has certainly gotten much louder. I bought Three-M sound-reducing headphones some months ago but now, even with quality headphones, the noise has continued to increase along with vibration in the hand grip. Is this a prelude to motor malfunction? Surely it shouldn't sound like a WWII fighter engine.

I purchased the Soniclean as it is the number one recommended vacuum for soft carpet
I was several months without a vacuum as mine had died. Since I was worried about my carpets, I had to finally buy one as my old vacuum could not be repaired. Since I have Frieze carpet, I purchased the Soniclean as it is the number one recommended vacuum for soft carpet. I love this vacuum! First of all, it is light as a feather and I can can easily move and lift it. Secondly, I know it will not harm my carpet. It worked like a dream. It easily moves over my carpet with no effort, even on the setting with the most suction. It brought my neglected carpet make to good condition. It worked equally well on my thick area rug and on my ceramic tile. In addition, it has a belt which is meant to last a lifetime, (even if not that long it should last a lot longer than normal belts.) The housing for the bag is made of thick fabric and a heavy duty zipper instead of cheap plastic parts that do not close well or get chipped over time. I do not mind the lack of attachments as I find attachments very clumsy to use anyway; a good quality hand held vacuum is fine for me. All in all I am very happy with my purchase.
