Absolute success story for our 7 year old over a reasonable amount of time !
Our story was like many in these reviews. We have two boys, a 4th grader and a 2nd grader. Our 4th grader never ever has had night time accidents, and our second grader has peed the bed every single night of his life and therefore always been in pull-ups. We aren't dumb parents, we have limited any fluids after dinner, made sure that he tried to go several times in the run up to bedtime. We did the waking him up from a completely dead sleep before we went to bed to go, only to have a completely full pull-up in the AM. We talked to our pediatrician who we are usually lock step with, and she discouraged an alarm saying that it would be a waste of our money and that he would simply have to grow out of it. But - our son really wanted to progress out of this phase, and I was tired of buying pull-ups for a seven year old, so decided to give this alarm a whirl. The reviews on here are mixed, but I have a close friend that used it for her two kids with success which is why I chose to buy this one (and how I heard about this specific model in the first place). We followed the method that I think the (very poorly written Chinese) instructions laid out, but that other reviewers here did. We had our son wear a pair of underwear, taped the sensor on and put another pair over that and then pajama bottoms. What was interesting is that I learned that our son was peeing the bed at exactly 1:10 AM and 4:30AM every single night - very consistently. I have no idea why, he wasn't getting water in the middle of the night, just how his body works I guess. The first few nights are rough. This alarm is LOUD (which I get is the point). It took some getting used to, and honestly there were several times at first that my kid is such a deep sleeper that he had basically a smoke alarm level noise going off next to his head and he wasn't waking up. We'd get him awake when this happened and take care of things. This rough phase (having the alarm go off, but he's already soaked his PJs and the bed) was only about a 2-3 week period and was not every night. Some nights he's wake up the second the alarm went off and be okay, some nights he'd sleep through it, pee too much and then wake up and we'd need to change him and the bed. Now - We are about seven weeks on the other side of this and what a difference. I did think that this alarm would teach him to wake up when he needs to go, but what has mainly happened is that he is able to hold it all night. We are still having him wear it, and I will hear it go off at like 530, but he just goes and is totally self sufficient. At that point in the night, he just removes the alarm and goes back to bed and is totally fine. We are so close to being done done with it, but I haven't changed wet, peed on sheets or PJs for weeks. Summary notes: -Save your self the headache and do the thing where you make the bed with a waterproof mattress pad, a set of sheets, another waterproof mattress pad and another set of sheets over that. Having to just rip off a layer of bedding at 1:00AM vs changing a bed is night and day in my ability to go back to bed (and in our case, our boys share a room and the one with the alarm is on the top bunk). We limited stuffies and other blankets etc as much as possible in the initial phase to make bed changing easier. -Having the clean underwear and fresh pajamas ready to go in the bathroom for the start of things when they aren't waking up in time and need to change clothes helps so much. Anything to reduce nighttime fumbling around. -THe part that detects moisture is SENSITIVE, which is good cause that's the point. Have your kiddo have gone pee and done all that before putting this thing on, or you may risk a false alarm. Our Kiddo isn't a warm sleeper so sweat triggers were never an issue. I'd think that putting a pull-up over this thing as some have suggested would really lead to false alarms. Plus - be done with them and give your kid the chance to fail a little. -On that above note - we traveled some during this or had guests that we didn't want to wake up. We did just use pull-ups in those cases. I do not feel like there was any regression. It actually gave me a metric of how much dryer he was in the morning vs before the alarm process. You don't need to feel like you have to have 2-3 months of uninterrupted time to tackle this. -I don't know the appropriate age for this. I will say that my kid is seven and half. It's been immensely helpful for me that he can tell time and put the alarm on and (more importantly) take it off on his own. As he's improved we've just told him, "If the alarm goes off after 3:00am and you aren't wet (meaning it detected the lightest amount of pee and he caught it), just go to the bathroom and take the alarm off for the night. He is capable of doing that, which helps us be able to keep sleeping and puts him in charge of the process. All that to say, I am guessing if you were doing this with a four year old, you'd be up more. If you told me though that I could have been up more when he was four and have this phase three years in the dust, believe me, I would have done the work. -Design note: The sensor piece attaches to the main alarm via a headphone type connection at 90 degrees. We had a problem that it kept popping out. We finally just decided to rubber band it once connected and never had a further problem. This was a long review, but this little device really helped out our family. My kid is so proud that he's done with pull ups and isn't wetting the bed. I still have the two sets of sheets and waterproof mattress pads, but can tell we are well on the other side of it. There's so much undo shame around this topic with kids that they "just need to figure it out" or "Are way too old for that". The reality is they are often just deep sleepers and this tool helps them balance the two. My son never would have been at this point without this tool which is why I am giving it five stars

Disappointing, wish I'd purchased something else
I have repeatedly woken up to a wet child with an unplugged alarm...the way the sensor plugs into the Chummie is just too easy for a half-asleep kid to unplug. We started using tape to create an obstacle to unplugging it in his sleep, but would wake up to it still being unplugged. I really thought the only problem was that it was too easy to unplug, but was awake with another child in the early hours this morning, heard the alarm go off for approx. 5 seconds and then turn off...I assumed he'd unplugged it again. When a few minutes passed and he hadn't come out to use the bathroom, I went in to his room and found my son asleep. I went to wake him up, pulling back the covers and discovering that the Chummie's lights were flashing, but there was NO SOUND OR VIBRATION. The sensor was still plugged in, the alarm was just not sounding like it should. As he rolled over, all of a sudden the sound and vibration restarted. He'd wet when the alarm first went off and was soaked. I have no idea how long it's been malfunctioning like this, but no wonder my son didn't associate that it was time to wake up if it wasn't alarming consistently. While I had no issues with the tapes sticking to undergarments, I do wish that they weren't labeled the way they are. As the mom of an older child with this issue, trying to keep the use of the alarm secret was important to him and having things labeled as "bedwetting solution" in the trash doesn't help. The extremely juvenile appearance of the Chummie was another issue, nighttime enuresis effects plenty of older children who are often very embarrassed about their issue...having something that looks "babyish" doesn't help with that. I had concerns about the appearance of the Chummie when I purchased it, but went ahead based on the reviews, only to find out that it just didn't work well. I wish I'd spent some more time reading the lower starred reviews, before purchasing. One more thing, I did not like the setup for how you choose the alarm style or the volume control. It is hard to use and is poorly designed. Overall, this was a very disappointing purchase and I have gone ahead and ordered another product that I probably should have bought in the first place.

Works - but be cautious with tape :)
It was a long battle, but we just had our first 5 consecutive dry nights and counting! FEATURES: - This alarm has an L-shaped plug! The cheap one I tried before Chummie came unplugged easily and broke the first night. So this L-shaped plug is a must if your kid rolls. - The alarm can be taped to absorb any padded underwear or any setup you have. It won’t work with diaper/pullups. - Training the brain using the alarm can work even if your kid doesn’t wake up. I slept near and woke him from his deep sleep to finish peeing on the toilet and change his clothes. - There is no Bluetooth so I don’t need to worry about those messing up sleep cycles. BE AWARE: - The adhesive tape is ultra sticky. BE CAREFUL not to get it on their skin, especially in sensitive areas. It’s a nightmare to soak off in the middle of the night. Have an action plan to prevent their skin from touching it even when you’re both drowsy. - Ours had a malfunction after 3 months or so and we called the manufacturer. They replaced it quickly at no extra cost. - These will not save you on washing costs very quickly. You will still likely want to wash whatever they peed in every day to keep it from smelling or needing multiple washes. But once you train the brain, you’ll see the savings! - If you barely pull the cord out of the alarm, it will sound. And if the sensor comes loose from the tape and starts to touch skin, it will sound. We have had false alarms with these but nothing major. STORY: My son had just turned 8 and I didn’t want him to turn 18 and have the same issue (which I read other moms actually had to deal with). I had tried peejamas but they didn’t help. He sleeps through the wetness so simply letting him feel the pee didn’t help. Next, I invested in a cheap alarm but it broke the first night. I decided I wanted an alarm that had a stronger L-shaped plug which wouldn’t unplug as easily and this product was it. It’s supposed to train the brain to recognize the sensation of urination. The alarm works even when my kid is half asleep. He usually didn’t remember waking up. He never woke up to the loud alarm but I slept near him and every time it went off, we rushed to finish peeing in the potty and changed clothes (peejamas) and put on fresh ones then went right back to bed. Sometimes it was 1-3 times per night but kept reducing. After a while I reduced the alarm to 6 nights a week instead of 7 because I wanted to rest peacefully once a week. TIMELINE: It took us just over 6 months to see real results! We did 7 nights a week for a few months but we paused for a month while on vacation then we picked back up for 6 nights a week and after 2 additional months, he is having dry nights. He didn’t have that at all before! I had almost given up a couple weeks before the breakthrough. I was putting him back in pull-ups after the first alarm. Then he was dry! I can update after more time.

Nothing sticks to the sensor - design flaw.
There is a major design flaw with the Chummie. Nothing sticks to the sensor. The tape barely works, but the issue isn't really with the tape, which is quite sticky and adheres to the underwear well. The sensor is so smooth that no tape (I tried several) sticks to it. Because we have a boy, our solution is to use a small binder clip to affix it to the front of the underwear. This would only work with boys' underwear, because of the extra flap of fabric. With girls' underwear, the binder clip "arms" would be against the bare skin, which sounds unpleasant. Even though we found a solution, the whole rigmarole of changing it in the middle of the night kind of stinks. It's time consuming and takes a dexterity that's hard to muster at 3am. If I had it to do over again, I'd have gone with the Malem, which has a sensor that is a clip. Otherwise, the unit functions as promised. Be wary, though. It might not be the solution to your child's bedwetting problem. We've made a huge dent in my son's nighttime enuresis, but we've been using the Chummie for a LONG time. After about 12 weeks, it seemed to work well enough to get rid of it. Then, after a while, he regressed and we're using it again. The sensor just broke (no fault of the unit ... my son yanks it from the binder clip every morning so it was bound to break at some point), so he's gone two nights without it and had an accident last night. Sigh. ** Update 4/7/14: After the sensor broke, I ordered a new one. I never had to use it. My son seems to be done wetting! I wanted to wait to re-review to see if the success was temporary. As of December 1, 2013, my son has not wet the bed. So, I still think there are design flaws and, if I had it to do over again, I might choose a different alarm. But the moral of the story is: BE PATIENT. It might work quickly or very very slowly. But the alarm seems to work. Hallelujah.

Fantastic device - Pick your Chummie!
Having been a little overwhelmed by the choices between all bedwetting alarms and which one to get, I ordered the Chummie first to try it on my son. So far, I like the results we have got. My son has been using pull ups for over 4 years now (he is 9). The savings, convenience, comfort and level of support provided by the company are all are outstanding with this product. I haven't purchased any other bedwetting alarm in the past and so I can't really compare it to whats out there. The Chummie was purchased for primarily 2 reasons - parents feedback on this site and customer support (which I will talk of later). 1. FORM-FACTOR The Chummie is compact, light and easy to hold. My sons is able to grasp it well at night when the alarm starts to alert him. It is also very easy to clean and maintain. It does scratch easily, but I have noticed that a little bit of buffing with a soft cloth will help cover any unsightly scratches. Chummie is very light and he doesn't notice it when its attached to his pajama top. The clip is a convenient way to keep the alarm attached to his pajama top. 2. CONTROLS I personally like the fact that there are only two buttons on the system. One to program it, the other to turn it off. Its important to read the user manual if you want to get a better understanding of how to change tones, adjust vibration and control volume level. If that's not important, just plug in the sensor and its ready to go. The buttons could also be easily programed by my son. That is exactly what I wanted. 3. APPEARANCE Looks very cute and the smiley face helps him. He even gave it a name: Nino the Ninja! Nino became his friend who would help him with sleepovers af friends places soon. 4. DISPLAY The lights are very bright. There are two of them. They light that comes out from them help my son find the alarm at night when it beeps. Also the sound is loud. There are two levels to chose from. I recommend starting out soft and then going loud so as not to scare your child. Vibration is essential and Chummie has hit the nail with the vibration; strong and effective. 5. SENSOR This was the critical make or break factor when we purchased a bedwetting alarm. The sensor what came with this product is very comfortable and easy to attach. My son did not feel it at night and maintained his sleep. This is important because I didn't want him all grumpy in the morning. Maintaining is easy too. I used warm water and a bounty tissue. Although the company recommended against using alcohol wipes, I would use them once a week to disinfect the sensor. It made no difference to the functionality of the product in my opinion. 6 BATTERY LIFE So far so good. I have had no need to replace batteries in the Chummie. For the first few weeks, the alarm would go off 3 times a night, every night for 2 weeks and he would wake up after 5-10 minutes. A few weeks later, as he got more adapted to the Chummie, those alert frequencies decreased and he would wake up earlier. I can safely say that the battery will last several months without replacement. 7. PRICE! Overall, at $99 Chummie is not a great deal, it is an outstanding deal. Compared to buying pull ups or medication, you will recover the cost of the Chummie in a matter of a few months because it does not need any expensive replacements or refills. I did not calculate my laundry savings, but it could run into the tens of dollars a month. What I saved on are pull up costs. That was around $40 per month. Huge savings. 8. CONVENIENCE Set up and maintenance was very easy. Like the "Set it and forget it" mantra on TV. Set it up at night and go to bed while the Chummie does its work. 9. SUPPORT The company is responsive and helpful. I called in a few times for set up and to get a realistic expectation of what to expect and when to expect seeing positive results. They are helpful and knowledgeable. Perhaps my best experience with customer support thus far. 10. RESULTS Super fast results. My son is not wetting any more. Some reviews said 8 weeks, some said 12 weeks. For us it was less than all of those. Still no wet nights after stopping to use the Chummie. THe company proposes a 14 dry night program which were successfully achieved. SUMMARY If you're new to a bedwetting alarm make sure you understand what you are buying here. Chummie is a bedwetting alarm which is a complete system. It comes with a cute little progress diary and certificate as well. Don't think of this as an add-on product or potty training product, because it really isn't. This device is made (basically) exclusively to treat bedwetting. Bottom line, you will not find a better bedwetting alarm out there. The reason that this device is so amazing is not for what it can do, but for what it can do at such a cheap price. The technology, not the price tag, is the story here. The Chummie is a solid start. It is "perfect" enough for me to say it is a five star product taking everything into consideration. I would have no problems recommending the Chummie to other parents who can take advantage of it. This product more than lives up to what it is designed to do. If you plan on making your child stop wetting the bed, I think you will really find Chummie is a pretty incredible device for the money.

Great concept
I would not recommend this product because it seems pretty hit or miss on whether you'll receive a functional product. I'm sure there's a product that works the majority of the time. The reviews on here are either really good or "take a chance with caution". Below is exactly why my product is a miss at this point. Initially when I spotted this product I was elated, I even ordered next day delivery so that my daughter and I can start to overcome her occasional bedtime wetting. The first night I applied the sensor to her underwear using the tape provided, when we awoke the next morning the sensor was laying next to her. She said that the tape poked her, I assumed in her sleep she must have yanked the sensor off. The second night I put two pieces of tape on the sensor attaching it to her underwear carefully not to get close to her skin, then I put a second pair of underwear on top. I thought I had out smarted the system, and the sensor stayed on all night. On the third night I was awoken at 5am to the sensors alarm, I rushed to my daughters' room, instructed her to turn it off and use the potty. Much to my surprise there was not a drop of urine on the sensor? I then followed the directions for when this happens properly cleaning the sensor and decided to give it another go thinking maybe the extra tape interfered. On the morning after the fourth night I woke my child up to a pool of urine, the sensor had been removed again, and it was comfortably sleeping next to her, not a peep from it. On the fifth and sixth nights we had another 5am false alarm so I decided to contact the company for troubleshooting purposes. The individual I spoke with was not very helpful with suggestions, I inquired about tape options, the false alarms, and the missed alarm. Instead the individual stated that they could give me a refund so that I could try another company's product. I was very put off by this suggestion then he agreed he would send a new product and I would receive emailed instructions as to how to return the defective product. After 2 days I had not received any tracking information for the replacement product, the email had not arrived. I contacted customer service again and was informed that my email address was not recorded properly and the product had not shipped yet. I did finally receive the return shipment email instructions which only provided me the address in which I am to return the product to. The product was 6 days old when I called, still under warranty and the company is expecting the consumer to pay to return this item. Amazon would provide return postage in this case. It's been a week, I have not received the replacement, and we continue to have the false alarm issue. I have resolved the tape issue by using a NexCare waterproof knee/elbow bandage over the sensor. This bandage fits perfectly and since its waterproof it will adhere to the underwear and stay on during accidents. It was important to me to write this review because during my initial call to customer service I mentioned that there were comments on Amazon mentioning the tape issues. The representative then replied that the comments were form 2011 and 2012; the issues had since been resolved. I think this company HAD great customer service and was willing to go the extra mile in 2011 and 2012 but now as I am waiting a week later for my replacement product and anticipating paying return postage for the defective item I am not convinced the supreme customer service still exists.

9 year old user
My wife got this for our almost 10 year old son, yes 10. He sleeps like the dead and goes through spells where he is perfectly dry and then for no reason pee's the bed for the better part of a week. We didn't want medication to do something his brain should learn to do on it's own, so we tried this. My wife had the same problem until she was 7 (in the 80s) with a similar device concept and it helped teach her brain to "wake up" to a full bladder that needed to go. This is what we want for our son with the Chummie. He's physically larger than a 4-6 year old for example, so he uses two pieces of tape to hold down the wire which is perfectly long enough to reach from his shoulder to his undies. He complians about the corners of the tape poking him so we cut the corners and round them off, problem solved there. Otherwise they stick on the undies just fine. If your kid is smaller one box should be fine for a while, if not get the extra box of tape. It's loud! It beeps and vibrates and wakes him up which is the point, he presses a button and it keeps flashing until he unplugs it. By this point he's in the bathroom. He unplugs it, and replugs it in. It beeps twice so he knows he's good to go. The drawback, perhaps due to his size is that he moves a TON in his sleep and it sometimes comes unplugged. Or the main device unclips from his shirt, it's like a belt clip. I wish it could pin on or something for more stability. If it wasn't for those two issues it would get 5 stars. He's only almost slept through it once and peed all over his bed in over three weeks of use. That's a ton of laundry my wife hasn't had to do! It is super sensative though, so if he goes to the bathroom before bed (for example) and dribbles a little on his undies and then goes to put the sensor on and plug it in, it goes off! So he needs a new absolutly dry pair of undies. All and all it's a good device, and we were hesitant to buy it because most of them are around one hundred dollars but this has so far worked out well and alleviates allot of worry if he's gonna be dry or not in the morning (and he sleeps in a double sized loft bed, overly freqent sheet changes are NOT fun). If it doesn't work for your kid Amazon will take it back even if it's been peed on, because they are cool like that. If this continues to work for our oldest we will buy a new sensor (the black piece) for our youngest in year or so when he is around five. At this point it works as it's advertised and so it was worth every cent and you wouldn't be wrong to try out this product.

This WORKS!!!! My story is long but if you are considering buying please read.....
Bear with me as my story may get long.... I want to say that I read so many of the reviews on this product before deciding to purchase it. I made a great decision and couldn't be happier that we went for it. Here is my review: I have 4 kids. All about a year apart. My two girls were potty trained early and never had a problem at night. My two sons were potty trained around 3 years old. My youngest son never had an issue with nighttime wetting but my other son, Patrick, continued to wet each night so we always just kept him in a diaper. He is 5 1/2 now and recently became embarrassed that he had to wear diaper to bed. The Huggies size 6 diapers were getting very snug on him and I had tried the other nighttime options and he had soaked through all of them. Patrick was getting embarrassed when he would have a babysitter at night who would have to put him in a diaper before bed. He was embarrassed that his younger brother went to bed with underwear on and he was wearing a diaper. He started to refuse to wear diaper and when I tried him in underwear he would wet the bed every night multiple times a night. My husband and I started a system where we would put him in underwear at night and wake him several times. We did this for over a month every single night. I was exhausted, my husband was exhausted and so was my son. And he STILL wet the bed because we didn't always time it right and we would be too late in waking him many times. We were all frustrated. Which is when I found Chummie. I was skeptical. As I am with everything. But I trust reviews and decided to go for it. After all, we couldn't continue to wake my son and there didn't seem to be a change in my sons wetting habits at night no matter how diligent we were about making sure he went to the bathroom multiple times before bed and limiting his after dinner liquids. So we bought Chummie and honestly, it was the best thing we could have done. The first week or so Patrick wet the bed even with Chummie. The alarm would go off and I would meet him in his room or the bathroom and change him, change his sheets and wash the censor with warm water (after each and every wet.) Then put the Chummie back on and he would wet again even with the alarm going off. The directions do say this process takes weeks or months so I was prepared that is wasn't going to work overnight. Patrick didn't love the Chummie to be honest. He disliked the alarm. Which, by the way, he never slept through. He always heard it and woke up and got up even if he had already wet the bed. We always talked it up and told him it would take time. We really encouraged him and told him this was how we were going to get him out of diapers and wetting the bed for good. He seemed to understand more as each night went on but he would get frustrated that it wasn't an immediate fix. He never complained about it as far as comfort goes. The clip seemed fine and not to bother him. The wire didn't bother him either. We used one adhesive strip and two pairs of underwear as I read in the reviews which worked great and we never had a problem with it slipping off! My biggest complaint with this system, however, is that even with frequent wiping and rinsing with warm water, it would occasionally go off with out seemingly any, not even one drop, of urine in the underwear. Patrick would cry and say "but I didn't have an accident!!!" and he was right and I explained that sometimes even the best products make mistakes;) That was frustrating for him though. That brings me to today. It's been about 4 weeks since using Chummie and Patrick almost never has accidents at night anymore. He still wears the chummie and will continue to wear it for a couple more weeks until I am sure he is free of accidents. Now, when the alarm goes off, he gets up and I meet him in the bathroom and he finishes urinating in the toilet. He hasn't wet the bed in weeks. He even sleeps through the night most nights now with out having accidents or having to go to the bathroom at all! He is so proud of himself and has so much more confidence when it's time to get pajamas on. I know that it takes some children much longer, and I know we are not completely out of the woods with Patrick just yet, but taking this step was the best thing we could have done for him! You will have interrupted sleep and long nights but it is worth it in the end! Oh and one more tip, I eventually found bed wetting pads that you can put on the bed so when accidents occur you don't have to change the sheets every single time. That was also HUGE for me as that took so much time multiple times a night and would frustrate Patrick because he was so tired and just wanted to go back to bed. We are very happy with this product and are so thankful for the outcome we are experiencing!
