How to Houseplant: A Beginner's Guide to Making and Keeping Plant Friends - Kindle edition by Rodino, Heather. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading How to Houseplant: A Beginner's Guide to Making and Keeping Plant Friends. Review: simple tips for new plant parents - great book with helpful tips for new plant parents. wide variety of plants included. Review: Beautiful, informative, and easy to read! - I can't say enough about this book. I really enjoyed it for a number of reasons. Overall, I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed reading it, and even more than that, I am happy that it is going to be a good companion that I can refer back to as I continue to work on growing my houseplants. It doesn't feel like a purchase, so much as more of an investment - because I am already keeping this book close at hand for regular plant care tips, as well as referencing it for ideas for future plants to possibly add to my collection. If I had to break down what I enjoy most about this book, it would be these key areas: 1. IT'S APPROACHABLE This is, for the most part, a fun and easy read, but don't take this to mean that the book is full of fluff. The information presented is straightforward, practical, and (in my opinion) very helpful. 2. IT'S COMPREHENSIVE Roughly the first third or so of the book is overall plant care information - tips on potting, watering, light, pests and so forth. The last two thirds describe some of the most common and beautiful houseplants, with specific care instructions for each species. 3. IT'S BEAUTIFUL There are a ton of beautiful images throughout the book, which I found personally inspiring in my quest to greenify my indoor spaces. In addition to that, each specific plant profile includes a well-photographed image of the plant being described, which really helps if you're trying to identify a mystery plant you already own, or if you're considering adding a new one to the family. I think that overall the images balance out the text beautifully. I would especially recommend this book to anyone looking to get started with houseplants, because it will hold your hand through each and every step. I fully recommend this book and I'm certainly glad I purchased it!

Fun and easy guide!
Very easy to read and well formatted. The only reason I didnt give five stars is because I wish it had more plants in it.

Love this little book!
I have struggled with keeping plants alive in the past because understanding light/water/soil requirements and such can be overwhelming. This book does a great job of explaining the basics in a simplified, easy to understand way, and it legit answered many of the questions I had. It's well organized and the section with the most common houseplant profiles gives you a good selection of plants to choose from starting out without being a endless daunting list of them. A bonus for me is the fact that the book itself is super cute with nice illustrations, and i like that it's on the smaller side with a hard cover. Would definitely recommend!

Not as comprehensive as I had hoped.
If I had bought The New Plant Parent book first, I probably would not have bought this book (How To House Plant). However, I am glad I have it as it does give a brief guide into some house plants I have and others I would like to have. It covers more house plant varieties than it does decor and care terms. The other book covers those topics more in depth. This book will not overwhelm the reader. Still a good book for beginners.

Great book for new plant parents
I love houseplants but Iโve done some stupid, stupid things to them. Iโve either given them too much or too little sun, too much or too little water, and knew nothing about soils, humidity and pests. This book is such a godsendโwell-written, great photos, beautifully illustrated and well organized. Kudos to the writer, designer and editor on this one! I love that it includes a section on how to care for over 30 varieties of plants. Really takes a lot of the guess work out of the way. Iโm already becoming a better plant parent, hopefully just in time to save my ferns from croaking. Thanks to this book, I discovered one of the plants I recently brought into my home has a mealybug. I also discovered what to do about it.

Handy guide, and interesting
Quick, handy guide to many popular houseplants. If you think you might want to get plants, I recommend getting this first, I wish I had. If I had read this first, I feel confident I wouldn't have any casualties. The beginning of the book goes through basics- how to choose plants for your space and where to place them, when to repot or up-pot, and watering basics. One thing it doesn't mention is well water- if you have a salt water softener, DON'T USE YOUR TAP WATER ON YOUR HOUSEPLANTS. It may be fine for outside gardens, but it will make your houseplants die of thirst.

I am a new plant mom, and this book teaches you all about the types of bugs and diseases you can find with most of your plants and how to help keep them alive. I know for sure this book will help me and my plants thrive together and Iโm so excited. Overall it has a fairly decent selection of plants covered in the book. Great for beginners!!

It's like having a friend next to you who knows all about houseplants and is going to share all their tried and tested tips. I am always keen to know how much light and water a plant wants, and this book gets nice and specific about that, as well as what to expect from the plant and common problems you might run into. It's so inspiring I want to dash out and spend all my money on plants!
