wolfcraft Folding Rule I 5227000 I The indispensable helper for all do-it-yourselfers

It seems faintly ridiculous to say it but I absolutely love this folding rule. I'm in the middle of raising the floor of my attic to fit more insulation and this ruler has made life so much easier for laying out the positions for the loft legs, joist reinforcements and the boards than wrestling with a tape measure. Obviously early days with regard to longevity but the rule feels really well built and takes some effort to unfold. Even at it's full 2 metre length it's plenty stiff and is much better than the 1.2m folding rule that I did have (and have managed to lose at some point) that was made of plastic or fibreglass and that used to fold up on itself if you so much as moved it. The metric only (printed on both sides) markings are nice and clear even in the slightly murky light of my attic. Top marks.

IF you're doing a bit of DIY and fed up with drooping tape measures, then this is for you., it can be made more useful with a number of machine accessories I also recommend the addon gap ruler and the Spirit level bubble.

These days the old carpenter's folding rule was in danger of becoming a museum piece as far as most DIY and even professionals were concerned. The retractable tape had taken over, and in many ways it has its advantages, measuring distance for example, the folding rule equivalent of a 10m retractable tape would be about the size of a laptop. But there are also disadvantages. When it comes to measuring vertical distances a rigid folding rule doesn't flop over, nor does it collapse or fall away when you are measuring, especially annoying when you are marking lengths and the flexible rule hooked on the end of a plank or wall keeps unhooking and has to be set up again. Both have their uses and I have used my father's old rule for many years, but it is getting a little worn after around 80 years or so of use so this is a replacement. The rigid rules are accurate, are easier to use then retractable rules in some cases, especially internal distances and, for the price, this is a bargain.

No idea how I ended up paying what I did for it apart from the festool ones I normally get being out of stock I guess. It does however do the job quite well is easy to read and pretty sturdy so far. I know back in the day when merchants in Germany printed their names on these things and gave em away as advertisement gifts. I miss those days

This is a nice long length and rigid ruler. It’s easy to read however the painted markings were flaking off as soon as it arrived. The ruler is sturdy but the painted markings are not. Hence only three stars.

Absolutley love these Rulers, Super handy and would rather use this over a tape measure for a lot of jobs! would without a doubt reccomend

No inches which would be easy & good. Sturdiness is ok but not so easy to use but works ok
