I bought 4 sets of Rockler lettering templates and 2 router bits. I bought the 2 ¼”, 3 3/8” and the 4” letters and the 4” numbers. I bought the 3/8” and 5/8” Shank Rockler Signmaking Carbide Bits. I’ll be putting this review in all 6 of the products, changing the star rating on each product. The ad recommends using a plunge router. I heartily agree. I can’t imagine using these things with a non plunge. The guide bushing fit the baseplate of my new Craftsman router but not my Craftsman that I bought in the ‘70s. The templates are only ~ 1/8” thick. The required template guide has that clearance. If you try to use a different template guide it may not produce satisfactory results. My other guides have a ¼” depth and won’t allow the router to rest flat on the templates. The templates for all are semi sturdy plastic. They’ll bend if you apply too much sideways pressure while routing. I had this problem initially but initially I wasn’t locking my plunge router down when routing. I was pushing down and trying to follow the template. This was just too much pressure. When I locked the depth (and released it after each letter) I found it easier to route as well as not bend the templates. They interlock nicely. They need to be secured to the workpiece (either masking or double sided tape) and stay in place when you’re routing. But remember – lock the plunge depth on your router. The outside diameter of the bushings are slightly smaller than the inside width of the templates. This means that in order to make a letter you need to run the router through the letter twice. Basically you route once around the outside perimeter and once around the inside perimeter of the letter. Not a huge problem, but somewhat of a PITA. They come stacked in flat boxes (see pictures). That makes it hard to keep them all alphabetized and the double template letters (more on that later) together. I plan to make trays that’ll allow me to stand the templates upright and in order. For the 2 ¼” and 3 3/8” sets: I like both sets. The 2 ¼” and 3 3/8” sets are complete with alpha, numbering and special characters. They come with a brass guide bushing so all you need to buy is the router bit for the actual routing. The 2 ¼” requires the 3/8” bit. The 3 3/8” requires the 5/8” bit. Letters like B and D are “2 part” templates, requiring you to route once for the first part and a second time to finish up the letter. Letters like E and N are one part templates requiring only a single pass. It’s not complicated and produces a nice looking letter. The “State Park” font looks nice.

We just bought a cabin out in the woods and needed signage four the address and name of the place. I was skeptical of using double sided tape, but it works great, holds the letters in place very well, though I wouldn't even think of using a regular, vice plunge, router. Some reviews I read stated the bushing didn't work well; they've either fixed the issue or it was another product being reviewed as the included bushing works just fine! The trick for me was taking my time and going a bit slower, watching the transition on "M's" and "N's" from vertical to slanted, it's easy to push over/round over the narrow plastic "tips". Had I known how good these would work, I'd have bought the combo set that includes the smaller lettering as well.

I have both sizes and think this is a great product. Love my state park fonts!

Plastic junk. Ruined in 30 seconds. Too thin. Bushing slips off and $100 out the window. Lesson learned.

Love the set, high quality stencils for the router. The pieces are a little tough to get to “click” together. But with a light sanding they work fine

Overall, this product seem like a great design and very well put together and thought out. I use the set one time and ended up returning it because the letters were so thin when it got to a sharp point on the letter N the template broke. I was taking my time using a plunge router and following the exact set up instructions. Everything seemed to be going fine until I got to that letter with the sharp point. If the template pieces were probably double the thickness I don’t think anything could move at all, and it wouldn’t be flimsy enough to break. I’m mostly disappointed that it didn’t work out for me because I thought it looked like a really nice set.
