- mBot STEM Coding Toys Robotics for Kids Ages 8-12

We run a children’s nonprofit, and the kids absolutely loved the Makeblock mBot Robot Kits. They were a great hands-on STEM activity and a wonderful way to introduce children to robotics and coding. Even some of our younger kids had no problem using them, and they were excited to see what they could build and program. The kits are high quality, easy to use, and a great value for the price. This is an excellent educational product for kids, classrooms, after-school programs, or nonprofits looking for affordable STEM activities. Highly recommend!

I purchased one for my niece and one for my nephew and challenged them to see who could assemble the fastest. They both enjoyed the challenge.

The MakeBlock mBot Robot Kit is really a great product. What a wonderful early introduction to robotics and coding. The instructions were clear. Our 9yo assembled it mostly on his own. Our 7 yo assembled his with help and guidance. Both were ecstatic with what they made. The robot can be used immediately once assembled using the remote control. It can also be coded and used with bluetooth technology through a smart phone or tablet. I have two qualms with the product. First, it would have been nice if the required batteries were listed more visibly in the listing. It requires 4 AA batteries (something most people have on hand), but also a 3.7V 1800mAh Lithium battery which is not typically something one has around the house or can easily find at a local shop. We were able to find a workaround with a battery we had on hand after visiting some of our local stores with no luck finding it. Second, and more importantly, we have two children and we ordered two kits - a blue and a pink. Unfortunately the remotes work on the same frequency and there is no method of changing that. It seems like it would be easy enough to enable a fix for this and hopefully the manufacturers will consider that in future releases. Other than those challenges, I highly recommend this product.

We liked it. We assembled it with my children who are 6 and 5 years old. I helped a few items to assemble. Robot is already installed codes. At the beginning of using, you don't need to make it program. Remote Control is synchronized with the robot. A B C letter represents a different mode. A mode is manual control, b mode is I couldn’t find it because just movingly, c mode is follow the black line. It has website that supports to learn how to code or assemble. It doesn’t has battery that you will need to 4 AA battery for robot and 1 3.0 V flat battery for remote control. I think that battery code is cr2025. If you don’t want to go out for battery. You should write them on your shopping list before assemble. Because you will screw the main board top of the battery. It was great experience for my kids. I consider that I will start to teach coding with it to my kids. I hope that. Then when i saw the coding program, my hopes raised because it is so easy. My son wrote one code for it that I took picture.

This was an easy and fun build. My kid has easily gotten it to do things, but probably because he uses similar apps/code at school. He really enjoys it. The only downside is that it doesn't always reconnect via Bluetooth on its own and he needs a little help with that. It's perfect for his age (11) and I'd buy again for my other kids.

Really easy to assemble and use

I teach robotics and this is the kit I recommend. The kids keep these and we make a variety of external displays, color sensors, sound sensors, using standard Arduino parts. The logic board is actually a custom UNO board that can anything you can dream of . We use the micro version to make an Apple 1 computer, complete with 6502 instruction set. (If you wanted, you could literally do that with the MBOT.) it’s real advtange is making robot animals - pet cats, dogs, scorpions, complete with AI. You can connect a color TFT display (2.4”j and animate the faces and eyes of creatures, do art, write messages, or even do a light show. Pretty amazing for a $60 orbit and $10 worth of parts.

Love the programming tutorial on their app - had my kiddo mastering block programming basics in under 2 hours. Unit is cute and appears to be sturdy. We both had a lot of fun playing with it and trying out programming.
