Curved Quick-Change Utility Knife, Stainless Steel Retractable Blade, 3 Blades, 6.5" Metal Handle, Black/Chrome

I've used Stanley Classic Retractable utility knives for years, I believe the model is 10-099, but I tend to lose them for some reason, though I've never, ever lost any other tool. They just seem to disappear. Also, it really is a pain, and just plain inelegant, to have to unscrew the handle, take it completely apart, then screw it back on just to replace the blade. So this Quick-Change model is wonderful: I had no trouble replacing the blades--but then, I had been forewarned by prior reviewers!. Otherwise, since it only ships with 2 cryptic drawings on the card that occupies the blade holder when purchased, I can see where it could be tricky at first. To restate other reviewers: the trick in changing blades, which is not in any way evident on Stanley's diagram, is to advance the top blade retraction lever PAST THE FIRST STOP, to the end of its travel. Then merely press the yellow button on the side, slide the blade in, and perhaps most importantly, make sure you have inserted it all the way, so none of the notches on top of the blade are showing. Otherwise, even when you retract it all the way, a very nasty bit of blade will still be projecting. Another tip: to open the blade compartment in the handle, press the button on the top rear of the handle. That will cause the bottom of the handle to swing down, lever style, on a hinge in the middle of the knife, providing quick and easy access to the stored blades. So, this is really a simple, very handy knife to use, if you follow the tips here and in other reviews. It also has nice hand grips added.

At first you will think this is too complicated. It is AMAZINGLY simple and great. I'm buying my 3d one today (for different locations). I bought this without first having read the reviews. It's description seemed enough. Then when I attempted to put in the first blade, I was ready to throw it through a window. The instructions made ZERO sense -- and still don't. Then I read one of the reviews, which described things more clearly. To install a blade, first depress the brass button on the top and move it all the way forward until it touches the black rubber cushion. It will stay there. THEN depress the yellow button on the side and simply slide in the new blade as far as it will go. Let go of the yellow button, pull the brass button back and the new blade disappears inside, ready for use without any problems. Once you know this, CHANGING BLADES IS EASIER THAN ANY OTHER - no screws or taking it apart needed. And there's a handy storage bin in the handle that drops down at the push of a button to hold new blades and the used blades. No fuss whatsoever.

This knife has a nice shaped handle, weight, with good blade storage but there isn't anything instant about it. If you don't mind loading the blade from the front every time, it should serve you well. However, if you were expecting this knife to change to a new blade from the handle reservoir, it doesn't and you need to order the Model STHT10237. This is what my OLD knife does to load from the blade reservoir in the handle : Push knob forward and then hold the front side button down while removing the dull blade (you can rotate to the second tip and put it back in if you want at this point). THEN, release the front side button, then slide the top knob back, a new blade drops into place from the reservoir of blades in the handle, Then push the button forward again to expose the new blade. Retract when finished.

This is a good, standard utility knife. The blades are sharp and easy to change.

You know that old utility knife? This is gen 2 of that. And the changes they made make a HUGE difference. It fits the hand better, has a little thumb pad right above the blade that gives you way more control, you don't have to take it apart to change the blades and the blade storage is both easier to access and works better. Frankly, everything about this is better. It uses the same blades, and the same slide mechanism to extend or retract them. It's still heavy enough to give a donkey a concussion, sturdy enough to actually be useful and you won't need to end up wrapping part of it with packing tape to keep the two halves together because you dropped the stupid screw and your cousin Billy ran off with it. There is nothing about this that is a downgrade. Everything that was great on the initial design is either still great or is even better! 100% will buy this again. Because, like every other useful tool ever, someone's gonna walk off with it at some point. I'd stab them for it except they walked off with my knife!

Great ergonomic grip. This is a beefy robust step above utility knife that should last for generations as most stanley knives do.

I use this knife for almost 2 months now, almost daily, and it still works like a new, more durable than most standard utility knives. Happy with it.

I am not a heavy user of utility knives, but I wanted something that was a bit more substantial than the cheaper, almost throwaway knives - I've used up to now. Initial impressions are very favourable. I read the reviews on other supplier's sites and they are not universally glowing, but I am very content with the performance of the knife. The instructions to change the blade are not exactly intuitive, but a moment's study should get you going.

This product slider wont move when we put the blade in. We can't make it work. It was a Christmas gift for hubby. Very frustrating. Plus to get the packaging out of the item was so hard.
