I've heard some of these locking nuts tend to rust after a while... anybody on here had theirs for a bit or live near the ocean that can comment ?

I've had mine on my third car for nearly thirty years and driven the car in ice and snow and on the sea coast. There are a few traces of discoloration in the contact areas where the key fits, but the chrome is still intact. Other chromed lug nuts on all three cars have rusted. The extra cost is worth the money.
