If you are a sound sleeper or hearing impaired, this is the alarm for you!!!!
I am a very very very sound sleeper, this is the best alarm clock I've ever had. After about a year of daily use (including about an hour of snoozing, 5 days a week) the vibrating disc you stick under your mattress wore out!!!! I was very upset, but I figured maybe wore out so quickly due to my extreme snoozing. I found a replacement part on Amazon and now I'm back in business! I think I've had the replacement vibrating disc for over a year, so maybe the first one I had was defective. The replacement part was a little on the expensive side (although cheaper than a whole new clock), so just keep in mind there could be future costs associated with this clock if you plan to keep it long term. In addition to the vibrating disc, the alarm also has an outlet in the back, where you can plug a lamp into the alarm itself. Then you can set the lamp to flash in your face when your alarm goes off. Or you can have the lamp flash in your face while the vibrating disc shakes your bed. Or just have the vibrating disc shake your bed. OR you can add a super annoying, super high pitched, high frequency sound to any of the previously mentioned alarm options. The options are endless! (Ok, there's 6.) When you have your lamp plugged into the clock, you use the big yellow button to turn the lamp on and off. I really like this feature, it makes turning the light off at bedtime very easy! Although probably not recommended, I suppose in theory you could plug anything into the back of the alarm clock, it is just a standard outlet. I have never tried it, but I fantasize about plugging a coffee maker or a George Foreman full of bacon. I'm not sure it would work since it flashes the lamp on and off, so the grill would probably never get hot enough to cook the bacon. Seriously, automatic coffee and bacon is the only thing that could make this alarm better! Another nice feature, there is a "test" button on the bottom of the clock so once you set your alarm you can test it to make sure you really set it. Plus when you first set it up its nice to know the vibrating disc works and what to expect. Just make sure the alarm is set/on before you go to test it, or the test feature won't work. Oh also the grey rectangle panel (thin grey boarder) around the time immediately fell off my clock. Not a deal breaker for me though!

15 year owner
I have owned the Sonic Boom for over 15 years. About five years ago, the ear-splitting alarm stopped working due to a switch issue, not necessarily a speaker issue. Two years ago, the light flasher quit working (the button on the face that manually turns the light on and off). Finally, two weeks ago, the vibrator quit working. The shaker itself was fine, just the switch on the unit itself wouldn't properly set the alarm. Know what I did? I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE! I am hearing impaired (have worn hearing aids my whole life) and this thing has never failed to wake me up. The bed shaker is strong, the flashing light is welcome, and the adjustable tone works wonders. I can't believe the darn thing lasted 15 years! I am going to start keeping my drinks away from it so maybe my new one will last even longer!

New Sonic Boom Alarm clock.
I had this for over 25 years it fell apart even-though it still works. The color has changed to dirty yellow. I still love it. Now It looks so new and great. Now I wonder for how long? . The vibration is strong enough and I never use it. Because it will wake up with shocking. I use lights and it is perfect. Newer push buttons and I will never change for another one.

Wake up, shake up with the Sonic Alert alarm clock.
You don't need quarters for a vibrating bed anymore. This alarm clock will shake the sheets right off the bed. Seriously, though, it sure does live up to its name. Perfect for any heavy sleepers, it has a volume-adjustable tone that goes from a quiet beep to an ear-piercing screech that'll make those fighting stray cats outside jealous. The shaker on this thing... Well, don't leave your beer on the bed like Del Griffith in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Sonic boom without the fighter jet. There's no better way to wake up.

GARBAGE, WON'T LAST A YEAR, DO NOT BUY!
UPDATE 4/20: GARBAGE, THIS $60 PIECE OF GARBAGE DIDN'T EVEN LAST 8 MONTHS. It started going blank a couple time 2 months ago, now the relay is clicking and alarm beeping randomly. Unusable Trash. Meanwhile my original from 18 years ago still works great Disregard everything below because they're making junk now! I just purchased my second Sonic Alert SB10000 and it looks and works the as the one I bought in 2002 that I still use. The only real difference is the new one doesn't have a "test" button on the bottom which is nice to confirm everything is working. The bed shaker on the old one stopped working after about 12 years. The cord took a lot of abuse and I suspect that it why it died, the new bed shaker functions in the old clock so it wasn't a failure in the clock itself. I bought a new one because the old one is looking pretty rough, it has fallen on hard floors several times. I have accidentally kicked it and stepped on it a few times which broke both the tone and volume knobs lol. I really don't need the sound of the alarm just the flashing lamp and clicking of the relay is enough. Maybe I am a lighter sleeper now in old age. When I was younger I always slept through alarms, I am not hard of hearing just a deep sleeper I guess. I was always late for school and work. That all ended when I got this alarm, nobody could sleep through the bed shaker by itself going off under their pillow, then the flashing light in your eye and the squaking alarm in your ear lol. Thank you for waking me but I hate you in the morning Sonic Alert! If the new one lasts half as long as the old one it will be a worthwhile purchase.

Your would be surprised!
I have had this boom clock over 20 plus years and it still works! My son took mine. I had to order another for me. Very WAKEFULNESS. Worth the money. It so powerful and hard and loud and it has the lamp outlet to plug in your boom clock. So you have the vibration the sound the light. GET UP RISE AND SHINE!

It Will Wake You Up!
I have a profound hearing loss. I cannot hear most alarm clocks without my hearing aids. I did have one for several years that was loud enough, but the speaker finally gave up. I decided to try a bed shaker. I was concerned that I would not feel it because I have a very thick (about 16") pillow top mattress. I was very surprised at how well the vibration is felt through my mattress. I have heard of people putting the shaker in their pillow case, but I roll around a lot at night and would probably strangle myself. I am very happy with the shakers performance. I also like the flashing light option. With the shaker and the light going off simultaneously, I could almost skip my first cup of coffee. I am somewhat disappointed with the alarm itself. If I am not facing it, I can't hear it. I found, however, that the rest of household appreciates my decision to just use the light and the shaker. There are a couple of other things that could use improvement for convenience. The alarm cancel button is very small, it could have a large button on top that you could hit without putting your glasses on. It would be nice, also, to have weekday and weekend alarm settings. It is inconvenient to wake up at 6:00 Saturday morning, and even worse if I forget to turn it back on Sunday night. Overall I am happy with the performance, and in the spring, I will buy another one for my boat.

Needs improvement
Took it on a road trip. Didn't drop/bump it. Was quite careful with it. I did push the lamp button hard. Clock Didn't work at the motel. No alarm - display messed up. Back home after a few days it worked normal.(had it plugged in at home) Well except for the lamp button. Now the light flashes 2 -4 times before staying lit. The hour display disappears sometimes after checking/adjusting the alarm. A few presses of the alarm button fixes that. The snooze button is to small. Make it as big as the lamp button. The good - its LOUD !!! many different tones to choose from. Volume knob ! & the Vibration is strong enough to wake up most people. Didn't like the flashing light alarm mode. & you can choose your alarm mode. Alarm only- alarm & vibrate ( my choice) or all three - alarm/vib/light. Just be CAREFUL with that lamp button. I recommend this product & I'll buy it again when needed. Be careful with the volume knob - it pulls off easily. I've done it trying to hit the snooze button a few times. Sleep soundly my friends & wake refreshed!

Great for deaf folks
If your deaf or hard of hearing then this is a nice clock to have. I'm deaf and wife is not. Has a light flasher and loud alarm to wake the house up. For the others, it comes with a pillow shaker, which wakes me up. I have had other clocks in the past. This one, hands down, is the best I have come across.

Buttons Don't Work
Unfortunately, I have to return this product and get a completely different kind. Delivered yesterday. I just plugged it in and for the next 20 minutes, tried to press buttons over and over again, pressing softly, pressing hard, holding for about 15 seconds, pushing to the left and to the right and the flashing number 12:00 turned to 12:01, then 12:02, etc. until I unplugged it 10 minutes later and tried again for the next 10 minutes and am now writing this review. The buttons are black and soft (plastic I assume) and you must press down and no matter how hard you press, nothing happens. I tried to use the flat end of the cord to the shaker that comes with it to press down on the button and even that didn't work. That's a real shame as I was looking forward to using this much needed alarm. Now I have to figure out how to return it which for several reasons will be VERY difficult as I don't drive. Not impressed.
