Luv it! Very old concept for added door security but very worthy.
Excellent cheap security product and install takes about 3 - 5 minutes. I purchased this to compliment the door armor kit and they both make my home very secure where external doors are a concern. Growing up we had a similar concept with a small metal square latch that secured the door as this product does. This is very simple but sturdy and mounts on the inside of the door jam where if someone attempts to penetrate the door there is no way the screws would come out or the wood would crack. To make this simple I suggest mounting the device on the door jam using the front hole and short screw. This way you can close the door and test to make sure the door clears and easily make adjustments by loosening the short screw and sliding the device forward or backward. You also want to make sure when this device is locked that its flush with the door so that if someone were to attempt to penetrate the door it would not move back and forth. Only one of them did not line up correctly the first time but with some adjustment it now fits perfectly. I installed 5 of these devices, three at one house and two at my other house. Overall I think this is a worthy product and an inexpensive way to slow down a would be home invasion to either discourage a thief or simply give you more time to "prepare". You can also successfully use it as a means to secure a "safe room" for your family to lock themselves in a designated room should a home invasion occur. But whatever you do never have these latched when you leave the house without a second means of entry or someone in the house. An example would be if you use your garage for exit and entry the door leading to your house is your main access to your home. If your garage door opener were to ever fail due to power outage or other reasons you need to have a second point of entry. If the other doors were secured with this product you would resort to breaking a window or some inconvenient way to access your home! Install is a snap and anyone can do this even those who are not handy persons.

Solid and easy to use
Solid product, we didn't have any issues to install it and it seems solid. Did a bunch of testing to try and bypass it from the outside with no success, tried to brute force my way past it as well and it held strong. My only recommending is to replace the screws it comes with by longer and stronger screws to really fortify it.

Great Lock For Added Protection
I live in a neighborhood where home invasions are frequent so i needed to think about what am i going to do to keep my family safe. I am a security conscious person. The first thing i think about is security in any situation i am in. This reinforced door lock is not only a simple device it's easy to install. I've seen a lot of people put this lock on the top part of their door and I can tell you putting it on top doesn't offer much security if an intruder tries to kick down your door. The middle of the door is the center of where force is met when someone kicks in your door. If you put this lock on top of your door the pressure from the blows to the door will put more pressure to the top area and snap the bottom portion of your door. The force of the blow is in the middle and that's where the lock should be to take the blows. How do i know? because I experimented on two doors using this lock. I placed one on top of my door were I see people putting it and i put one in the middle of the door. I found that the lock adsorbed the blows when the reinforced lock was put in the middle. We kicked the door down as hard as we could, we hit it with a sludge hammer, and also used a crow bar and it did not budge. When we put the lock on top we found that the door frame broke off and the door snapped because the pressure of the kicks and sludge hammer had snapped the door in half breaking the bottom part of the door. It all has to do with physics. This lock is well constructed and easy to open and close. I will say this. It's good to oil up the lock hinge from time to time to avoid friction which will occur over time. Also use concrete screws when drilling these onto the door frame. The screws that come with this are cheap and will break off if anyone dares to kick your door down. Overall this is an easy to install lock and well worth the money. I feel safe at night knowing nobody can break down my door even if they tried. This if placed right will withstand 500 and more lbs of pressure. SIDE NOTE: For extra added protection you should combine this with a metal door strike plate (as seen in photo). This makes it harder for people to break down your door and reinforces your door frame. Overall great solid buy and a must have to secure your home.

SOLID LOCK...BROKEN SCREWS...HOW TO INSTALL PROPERLY
I read other people's reviews (great lock, except for the weak screws) so I ordered two of these for our new home's front door and the garage-side door. And I was hoping the 3-4 star reviews were wrong and I will be able to pull off a successful install. WRONG! Just like many others have said, the very first screw broke off. And after an hour and half ordeal and a broken off screw that I could not pull out, here's what I learned. Hope this helps future buyers and installers. FIRST, THE LOCK ITSELF...the lock is solid and polished nicely (just like the pictures). We got the satin nickel finish and it matches pretty well with our already installed hardwares. I would highly recommend it. (I ordered the "Defender Security" brand, formerly known as "Prime-Line," after contemplating whether I should get the cheaper versions but the other brands had some hard to pronounce names that threw me off and this is sold directly by Amazon. SECOND, THE INSTALL...this is where things went wrong. The provided instructions are straight forward and install was easy, THAT IS UNTIL THE TIP OF THE SCREW BROKE OFF/FLEW OFF. And from my experience, it could have been a lot worse of a problem, because THE BROKEN SCREW WILL NOT COME OFF as you can see in the picture. HERE'S THE PROBLEM. The standard 1/8 drill bit that they tell you to use is about 2 1/2 inches long hence it will not drill the whole length of the provided 3 inch long screw (the lock comes with three 3 inch long screws and four 1/2 inch pilot screws...not sure why they give you four). So my first screw which broke at the tip got stuck in the hardwood stud two-thirds way in. I should have listened to the reviewers, but I took a chance with the impact driver and it snapped at the very first attempt of trying to drive it in. And since it was two inches in already, the plier can't get it out. It will just shred the thred of the screw. They should have mentioned the fact that you need to use an extra long 1/8 drill bit because you are not going to drive those screws in without breaking them. THIRD...HERE'S HOW I FIXED MINE AND SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE BUYERS/INSTALLERS HOW I FIXED MINE I could have spent another $10 bucks for a stronger screws that can withstand an impact driver, but I found some #8 2 inch screws and decided to use them instead. And it worked out for us. And I was able to put in another 2 inch screw into the stud where the pilot screw is supposed to go so it was a solid install. I am sure the lock will probably now withstand only about 500-600 lbs of pressure instead of the promised "up to 800 lbs" but it feels solid. and the door is not budging. The lock opens and closes fine and feels very solid when it's closed and there's no smudges of any kind with the black plastic rubber guard. HERE'S MY SUGGESTIONS FOR A FUTURE CORRECT INSTALL (1) DO NOT USE AN IMPACT DRIVER ON THE SUPPLIED SCREWS!!! TRUST THE REVIEWS, THE SCREWS WILL BREAK AND YOU WILL REGRET IT. I could not get the broken screw out even with a torque plier and ended up nibbling and hammering it in so it doesn't stick out. (2) TO INSTALL WITH 3 INCH SCREWS (as recommended by the manufacturer), you will either need to have/buy stronger screws or have/buy at least 3.5 inches long 1/8 drill bit (standard length bit will not work). (3) COMPROMISED SOLUTION...If you don't want to fork over the extra money for stronger screws or extra long 1/8 drill bit (at least 3.5 inches long), I think 2 inch screws or 2.5 inch screws will do more than an adequate job of securing the lock PROVIDED THAT you hit the stud at least an inch into drilling. I am assuming most people will have #8 screws of varying lengths lying around at home and for my install, I was able to reinforce it further by using a 2 inch screw in place of the 1/2 inch pilot screw. (4) Btw, make sure you have about 1/8 inch gap to avoid having to chisel (if you are particular about aesthetics like I do) As many reviewers have said, other than the ordeal with the weak screws, I still recommend the lock. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

Use a longer drill bit if using the longer screws for strength
Our children had reached the age where they can open child-lock doors, and after discovering my 2 year old daughter has an exploratory vibe and had gone downstairs into the basement unnoticed, I decided to try one of these door locks. Note that this is interior to the house, so it's not so much to prevent break-in, just control access. Note that it's important to always have an egress path from where they are installed in a locked position in case of emergency. I would prefer a different design that has egress options on both sides of a door if you're trying to train a child to stay in their bedroom. I went with this model because the finish matched the rubbed oil bronze finish of the door hinges and door knob. After installation, the door security lock fits nicely with the decor. The door security kit comes with short screws that go into the door jamb that provide less strength, and longer 3" screws that should anchor to the stud frame around doors. There is more potential for stripping the screws if you only use the short ones that go into the door frame instead to the jamb. This is because the short screws would only anchor to the door frame that is often a type of decorative molding that doesn't have the structural strength of 2x4" studs (it doesn't take much force to deform the material). I decided that even if installed indoors, I wanted the door lock to be secure so I decided to use the longer 3" screws. The installation was easy but not without incident. Note in the picture with the drill bit and screw side by side that they are about the same length. When you put the drill bit in the drill, you have to sacrifice some length because the shaft sits in the drill chuck. The common drill bit length that you get in a normal drill bit set will not pre-drill the entire length of the longer 3” screw. So I pre-drilled as much as the shaft would allow me to drill, and used the lowest setting on the impact driver to push the screw into the hole. I had less than 1/2" remaining and it would not progress any further on the impact driver’s lower settings. I didn't have a longer drill bit length so what did I decide to do? I cranked the impact driver to 3 and after about half the distance I snapped the screw head clean off. Kraggle! Now I had a headless screw that was majorly stuck and the remaining screw was only protruding about 1/4" from the door frame. To remedy this, I used IRWIN Visegrip Quick Adjusting GrooveLock 10-in Electrical V-jaw Pliers to pinch the small remaining exposed screw length and spent about 15 minutes de-threading the screw from the door jamb. I needed the longer pliers length to get the torque to unscrew the threads, but when the pliers are that big, I still ended up deforming the door frame molding a little bit. I went to Lowe's and looked for a DEWALT 1/8-in 6-in Black and Gold Coated Hss Twist Drill Bit. Lowe’s was out of stock, but they had a 12 inch length drill bit in stock so I just decided to go with that. I would have preferred the smaller drill bit length but the door opening width still gives enough room with the 12 inch long drill bit to pre-drill the holes straight on. To ensure I didn't over drill the screw length, I placed a wrap of painters tape at the length on the drill bit to mark the screw length so I'd have no risk of over committing the hole and drilling through drywall just a few inches beyond the door jamb. Once I pre-drilled the correct length, I was able to use the impact driver on the lowest setting to drive the screws all the way into the door frame and jamb. Note with philips head screws, try to use the "fattest" impact driver bit that will still fit in the screw head. It's the best way to help prevent deforming the screw head from the bit slipping. In the end I had to borrow one 3" screw from a second kit that I had bought, though I could have gotten away with using two 3" screws on top and bottom and one small screw in the middle. Hopefully you read this making the same mistake! To open the door, you just have to pull out away from the door frame and then rotate to open. To close, you can simply rotate it back and it will snap into place, or you can pull out a little bit and you won't get the small "snap". All in all, I'm very happy with the end result, as now we have control of access to the basement to keep our little ones safe (and help keep the wife sane). It's easy to use and the wife loves it, so it's a win-win. Highly recommend if you want something to fit the house decor even though some people may consider it a little bit overkill.

Withstands break-in; Replacement as a secondary door lock; Sturdy & Secure
PROs: - withstands break-ins - withstands pressure from the other side of the door to break-in - secure installation on door - easy to install (follow step by step, have a drill & drill bit ready) - easy to take off & put on (lock/unlock) - more secure than slide chain lock for door CONs: - if you have difficulty grasping items, it won't be "super" easy for you to lock/unlock this device Comment: I have a great appreciation for purchasing this door lock b/c in our neighborhood; there are times during the night where some ppl who aren't mentally stable try to break into homes they think aren't occupied, & one night that happened to us. I'm so grateful that I bought this secondary lock b/c although our actual door lock (where you put in the key) is older & easy to penetrate using a "bump key" (yes, this exists), this secondary lock helped to keep our door securely locked even while we were asleep, not knowing someone was trying to break in. SO, if you're looking for a secondary lock to your door (front, back, going to the backyard, for a bedroom), I recommend you get this. Yes, I use this lock as well to serve as a lock for my bedroom, b/c you never know if someone can get in using the windows instead & also, I don't want to change my door knobs (I've tried, but then I'd have to pay more to get the parts, the right size, door, & etc.) So, YES I save more in buying this lock rather than having to replace an old complicated door & lock Hope this review helps you in determining whether to purchase this lock. Hope you have a good day.

Super Door Security, Instals In Minutes
These are EXCELLENT. I have three for all my exterior doors. I also bought two for my girlfriend. One Defender is installed on her bedroom door, and one for her walk-in closet, with solid-core doors, to create a two-layer set of security barriers that she can easily use to retreat & stay safe if needed. She locks the bedroom door at night, and NObody is coming through without giving her plenty of time to react. These are very well built, will hold a door with complete security, and are easy to operate. Installation was easy and fast -- even for doors with curved molding. When locked, anybody trying to break in will have to literally destroy the door to get through. If you are particularly concerned, you could instal more than one -- e.g. one above and one below the existing door knob and dead bolt. Defender locks would still be effective with an interior, hollow-core door, but the door would eventually give way. The security screws are very long, and the size of the plate on the frame spreads out any force over a larger area than a simple latch or dead-bolt. A regular latch & plate can be kicked out. Using the Defender lock with a solid-core door makes your door totally un-openable unless you release it. It would still be effective with an interior, hollow-core door, but the door would eventually give way. The design is sleek, and low-profile, so it's not some giant fixture stuck on your wall. Last, if you ever decide to move, you can simply unscrew it and take it with you. The holes can be quickly filled with a colored wood putty and it's like it was never there. I highly recommend this product for anybody wanting to add a layer of extra security to any door.

Excelente tranca para portas!
É uma excelente tranca para portas. Coloquei em um apartamento cuja maçaneta de fora abre a porta, para não precisar fechar com a chave no dia a dia. A trava é robusta e bastante segura! A porta fica sólida, não se mexe! Vale a pena!
