I understand that they can be stacked, but is there a way to secure them to each other if I stack them? If not, I might use wire ties.

The product does not come with a way to be secured but I have my stacked and all the way to the top is my printer. When I print the printer moves everything but nothing has ever fallen is slipped.

Can you mount or install some case fan to cool off the laptop?

Yes, I suppose that you could. The stands have a perforated platform, so yes you could mount fans to pull heat away from a laptop (assuming that the laptop has heat vents on the bottom).
