DHP Tommy Twin Metal Loft Bed, Black

This is for a guest room that isn't used too much, so I wasn't worried about the difficulties listed here. It's true, it has a tiny bit of sway, it's not rock solid. However, it's not bad either. I weigh 180 if I flatter myself. Regarding the ladder, it's true, it hurts your feet. But my guests can handle it :-D. I'd do something about it if we used it every night. I haven't had issues with squeaking. Make sure to tighten all your parts, I'm guessing loose parts are why some people are getting this issue. More than satisfied especially at the price point. Comparable items at furniture store were over $500 and didn't seem that much better. We have a tiny room used as a craft room and guest room, so having a desk and bed take up the same space is soooo awesome. Setup was so much easier than I expected. A little tedious, but easy. Extra parts much appreciated. Second person helpful for the first little bit (maybe 5 minutes) and then cake with one person. One person could make this in a pinch without too much struggle.

Wasn't too bad to put it together. Too about an hour to assemble. Went together easy and all the holes lined up perfectly. You can't really use power tools to put it together as the tolerances don't allow for the right angles unless you were to use a swivel. Quality seems decent for the price. Once it's all assembled it feels sturdy. Make sure to tighten it well. It's pretty hard to strip it out if you're tightening it because it will start to bend the metal before it starts to strip out. I had no problems at all and didn't have any of the bolts stripped out. if you have any problems with stability you can always go to the hardware store and get some pipe strap fastener brackets that are used for pipes to secure them to walls and doing so will prevent it from moving at all and will hold it nice and tight against the wall. Make sure you align it with a stud so it doesn't pull out of the wall. if you can't hit a stud then you can always get a piece of 1X4 board and screw it to the studs in your wall and then attach the fastener to it but place it up near the top of the bunk so the bed hides it. That's just a suggestion if you're too worried about lack of sturdiness but seems pretty sturdy to me. When I purchased it cost around $150 after taxes.

The bed is heavy and takes a while to set up but is worth it. We have the bed on top and underneath is an ikea desk, so it's a great little nook. We already had the desk so putting the bed over it didn't take up much more space in our room since we built up instead of out. As with many heavy items there was some damage in shipping so be sure to inspect it carefully. I would definitely purchase this again. As many other people have noted, the rungs on the ladder are way too narrow and hurt anyone's feet when you climb it. Some dollar store pool noodles fixed that for us, see the pic. You'll need a 6" or less mattress for the guard rails to be useful. My kids love it and made the top bunk a fort.

I got the black twin loft bed so I can put my tables and chairs underneath. I’m a female 186lbs and I forgot to add the mattress pounds. I thought it wasn’t going to hold me but it does. Please weigh at your on risk. I think mine says 200lbs max on Amazon but manual says 230 I think. So I am risking it. I should try to loose weight so I don’t break it in the future lol. I placed a 12 inch bed as well, which is NOT recommended. I have lived in a Navy ship before so my body is use to not rolling off since we had smaller mattresses in a coffin rack style and I was on the 3rd bunk high, BUT IF THERES AN EARTHQUAKE NOW OR SOMEONE DRIVES THROUGH THE WALL I’M AT, I’m definitely falling off lol. Again I’m taking the risk, which you shouldn’t. I am going against all guide lines and I’m not going to be suing the maker for my misuse. If you are one of those who like to sue or return, please follow the guide lines to the T. But other than that, I build it my self, I’m 5 feet 4 inches. There were times I used my head or shoulders to balance the beam, or times I screwed one side and slowly walked to the other side hoping it won’t break on me lol, but I managed. Instructions were easy. There were times I’m like, “wait what about this screw?”, it shows up later, so just follow all the screws in order. Don’t open all of it at once or you may not know which screw is which. I used a box cutter or exacto knife to cut one by one of what I needed per step. Everything is labeled, complete set even with extra pieces and screws, it’s very sturdy, appearance is amazing, just like the photo, it performs what it says it does even more.

Great bed for a kid or skinny adult. For more moderately fluffy and fun sized such as myself, or more I would not suggest it. I bought this for my 9 yr old and he loves it. I did what others suggested and took pool noodles and cut them up. However you might want to try pipe insulation instead as the pool noodles are inner cut too big as well as being too thick so no matter how tight you get the zip ties around them, it’s not going to grip the bar, making it spin if you move wrong. However that hasn’t been an issue with my kid at all but may be for some. I got a cheap rgb led strip and put behind it and wow it looks cool. Definitely better than the $3500 loft mansions they sell to people at rooms to go kids. Yeah of course wood is going to be better, but considering it’s for a kid so they are going to use it eh.. maybe until they are 15 max? And if you have to break the thing down to move that’s an extra back ache. That might be brilliant but I like this better. It does the job for cheap, looks cool, gives a kid the same happiness, and at the end of the day isn’t bad or hard to move… Now with that being said the initial uhh.. box your gonna either need a second person to move it, or your going to have to take it out in pieces and leave the box where it is till you get about half of it out the box. What I ended up doing is using a rug under it to move it through the house to his room. It does wobble a little but not crazy and it’s easy enough to remedy with some cheap shelving and screws. Just take one of those cheap a la carte shelving pieces from Home Depot or Lowe’s, cut them into triangles, use a bit to drill through the metal tubing and then screw in the triangles on the corners. That will stiffen it up a LOT. The other idea I had for the near future is to make the whole bottom back into a desk via same shelving but instead of cutting out triangles get one that is the length of the frame, cut notches in it to fit around the poles on each side then screw down into the poles along the bottom length edge of the shelving

I was able to get two of these beds in my room for my two sons. We homeschool so it’s perfect for a shared space! They are decent. Took a while to build but we also didn’t read instructions correctly at first. Pretty happy with them one month later. Price is also very reasonable. I recommend 9/10

I know it says for adults but clearly I'm a bit of an outlier for the product size. Twin size, good height on the supports, but the ladder, which is a perfectly fine 1ft across, has rungs less than an inch wide with no flat surface to grip a foot onto, so instead each step digs into the arch of my foot, is very slippery and caused cramps as I was ascending, causing me to start shaking the whole thing. Being as I'm 6ft 2in and range from 230 to 250 depending on the week, I panicked a bit. Overall, I haven't seen anything that blows away my expectations, it works alright so far, but I'm wary of it because the ladder is such a pain.

I bought two of these beds for my younger kids to add floor space in their room. It's really nice for the cost, I like how tall it is because they don't have to duck down underneath it, although I do. The beds are hard to assemble but once it is together it's nice and sturdy. Ny only issue is that the ladders stick out quite far and they really hurt your feet when trying to climb because the bars are really small. They also are fairly easy to slip on, so I would take that into consideration before purchasing for younger kids. Overall I'm happy with my purchase.
