My Journey Bearding Began With This Great Product!
This stuff is great! I have previously tried to grow a beard, and decided to trim and shave my whiskers because of the dreaded beard itch. I tend to have dry skin problems in the winter, and while I've always wanted to grow my beard during this time of year, it also tends to dry my face. After browsing a few beard forums and seeing this product mentioned a few times, I decided to wander over to Amazon and purchase this beard balm. I now use it daily. It has made my beard very soft and manageable, while taming some of the stray whiskers that tend to stick straight out rather than fall with the flow of my beard. If the right amount is used, then it will present a nice softness to the skin that doesn't feel greasy. THE SMELL - I have seen mention of a smell in some reviews of this product. While it certainly does have a unique smell to it, the smell is natural. My nose doesn't detect any sort of artificial fragrance, and the smell seems all natural. If you are familiar with the smell of Cocoa Butter, then you will instantly be able to pick it up. It was definitely the main scent that I could detect. My wife cannot smell any distinct scent, even when her nose is touching my beard. THE SIZE - Be warned, you may be disappointed in the size of this product when it arrives at your door. While I was certainly surprised, I can say that a little bit of this product really does go a long way, and it really does help with growth and softness. RECOMMENDATIONS - Attached is a photo of the amount that I use. It is plenty to allow for entire beard coverage, while any remaining balm I have left, I apply to the rest of my face to prevent any dryness. The excess balm works great to hydrate and protect skin all day! Simply take a small amount with your finger tip, and rub well in between your hands. The paste will melt down into the consistency of an oil, and spread evenly throughout your beard. If too much of the balm is used, it will leave the beard looking slightly oily and over-conditioned in the sun. After seeing how much this product has helped maintain my beard, I am interested in trying some other products from the company! The quality is great!

Clearing up the complaints in these other reviews.
First, the scent. What about the scent? There is much to-do about the scent in the reviews and you may be afraid that the scent is "strong" or that you'll smell like licorice all the time. Don't be concerned. I have no idea what these people are on about. There is a hint of anise (black licorice) but I think the scent is a mix of spice notes and woodsy scents with maybe a tiny bit of anise. I think, personally, the top note is clove. Is it a strong scent? No, absolutely not. One single spritz of cologne is way stronger than this stuff. Will you smell it? Yes, faintly, and for a little bit until you either adjust or the scent fades away--it's hard to measure what is actually happening under one's nose. Having used it for a few days, my wife did not even notice the scent of it on me. In fact, for the sake of science, I put a lot on one morning, waited a few minutes, and had my wife give me a sniff from about 5 inches away. She said that she couldn't really smell anything at all. In any event, I think it smells quite good. (NOTE: If you cringe at the thought of wearing even the weakest scent, as some men do, Honest Amish makes an unscented version of this balm.) Does it work? Yes. My beard is softer and it looks nicer too. I'd recommend the product to anyone who uses a stronger soap for face cleaning as a strong soap turns your beard hair into steel wool. This, along with some good conditioner, helps put things back into shape. Does it help with the dreaded beard itch? Yes, and boy was I glad that it did. Does it help with the dreaded beardruff? Yes, my skin is regularly flaky with beards and this took care of that too. Is it greasy? Well, at first it is a little moist. After you put it on, it does seem to soak up very well such that you don't have any meaningful residue on your beard. If you use a lot, it'll be a bit greasy, but if you've used a beard oil before you should know what you're in for. Does it help with holding or shaping? Basically, no. It does contain wax, but this stuff is for conditioning. If you want a bit more hold, buy the heavy duty balm (and see my review on that.) I used this stuff in the early stages of my beard and switched to the heavy duty balm when my beard got longer and more unruly. Does a little go a long way? Yes, so don't be put off by what seems to be a small tin. You're supposed to apply this to a damp beard and the dampness helps the small amount of the product go even further. There's no "set" amount to use here, naturally. You can tailor it to your liking or your need for conditioning. I tend to use a good-sized portion, particularly as my beard gets longer and before I transition over to the Heavy Duty Beard Balm. Still, I'm not burning through tins. I've had the same tin for more than a year. Get it. Try it. A "For The Ladies" Edit, 11/29/15: My wife, for whatever reason, started using this on the ends of her hair. She's been doing it for months now and swears by it. So, I asked her why she likes it so much. She said that it keeps her ends moisturized and it has helped to eliminate split ends. She said she also thinks it would have useful application in controlling fly-aways while braiding. I'm pretty sure I have very little idea what that means.

Works well
I have used Honest Amish products for years. They do an excellent job at hydrating and taming my beard. I have a rather large beard, over a year’s worth of growth. My beard is very coarse and thick. About a pea size is enough to give me full coverage if the humidity is high. I can do with a little less in lower humidity. The best way to describe the scent is “herbal,” with a small drop of fennel. It’s not loud or overpowering. No one has ever mentioned it, but I have gotten feedback on cologne. I’ll give this a four out of five because I wish the scent was a little stronger. Otherwise, it is an outstanding grooming product and I highly recommend it.

I Can't Believe How Good This Stuff Is
This beard balm is...incredible. I've had a beard for several years, and I'm always trying new products to find something I like the best. I went through several bottles in the Beardbrand line, which I found to be nice-smelling, but far too "dry" of oils (if that makes any sense), which would leave my beard thirsty and dry by the end of the day. I tried other brands of oils that worked well, but often didn't work the best if your beard had much moisture in it after a shower. I decided to give this a whirl, really expecting to be returning it shortly. Boy, was I wrong. This stuff isn't like other beard balms I've tried. It's very soft and creamy, and reminds me of whipped honey or something. It melts instantly in your hands, and easily goes in your beard and into your skin. Most other "balms" I've tried remind me of chapstick or something, and tend to lean towards some sort of a styling product. They leave your beard feeling heavy and congested, and if you touch your beard your hands feel greasy. Honest Amish really feels like a "balm" that absorbs into your beard and I can touch my face later and my beard feels very soft and conditioned, with no greasy hands or residue. As for the smell, it's interesting. Another review pointed out that it smells very natural, which I also agree with. I can't quite put my finger on the scent. It doesn't smell like a manmade fragrance, instead more of like a light blend of essential oils. It disappears quickly however, and I'm already used to it. It wasn't my favorite-smelling beard product at first, but the conditioning is so good that I don't care what it smells like. This stuff really conditions your beard. I've been using oils for years and I've always been slightly discouraged that my beard hair tends to feel quite stiff and wiry when there isn't a coating of oil or balm in, especially in the shower. Honest Amish has made my beard hair itself much smoother and softer to the touch. In the shower it feels like my face has been conditioned all day! I've never had beard dandruff that some people seem to complain about, just the usual bit of dry skin at times and a bit of flaking. Nothing crazy, and nothing that anybody except me would really notice. But since I've been using this stuff, my skin feels moisturized and I don't have any more of it. It works great after a shower, and my beard tames much easier than when I was just using straight oil This sounds like I'm raving about some kind of miracle product, and it almost feels like it. Compared to the more "popular" options on the market for beard care, this stuff just absolutely blows everything else out of the water in terms of results. I am buying several more cans to give to friends as gifts, it's that good.

No Bull, All Natural, All Good
I was impressed by this, though there wasn't any information on the scent...It actually is great! Not overpowering, but a subtle (very subtle) woodsy, pine, clove scent! I've used others, and like the sandalwood sent, but they are usually a little strong. Also not greasy, and not too firm for easy application. Highly recommend for the price, given the high quality, and volume.

Tamed the rat's nest on my face
I purchased this in the hopes that it would help tame and soften my otherwise wild beard. It was a last ditch effort so I wouldn't need to shave it off for the black tie new years party at my work that I was going to be working. This did exactly that. I was a little put off by the other reviews on this, stating that the smell was overwhelming or that it has a bad texture. I opened it up as soon as I got it. Be aware that it is a natural oil product that can melt in transit to your house. So be careful when you open it. I put mine in the refrigerator for an hour and it returned to normal. The texture is very similar to lotions you get in the same kind of container. That's the best way I can describe it. It also said on the package that it can separate. I haven't yet had this happen, but stirring it with your finger or putting it in the sun and letting it melt will solve that easily. As for the smell, it does have a slight woodsy odor. I like it. It isn't overpowering like some other reviews were saying. Nobody else will smell it unless they are at kissing distance of your beard, though my wife didn't care for the smell, and refused to kiss it. Keep in mind, this product is applied directly to your beard and mustache. You WILL be able to smell it when you put it on. And you will continue to smell it as long as you keep it in. The fragrance certainly lasts a while. This is basically a leave in conditioner. It is not a styling product, though it does have some hold. Mostly it just softens your beard and makes it more manageable. It also helps control fly away hairs and makes your beard look fuller and well put together. It also adds a bit of shine. My beard is naturally red, and it really helped bring out the color. I recommend you read all the instructions before using. It tells you exactly how to use it the way it's intended. The tin is quite small. Don't let that deter you from it, though. Its not a lot for $13, but a little goes a long way. I have quite a bit of facial hair. Just a small fingertip full, about the size of a small blueberry was more than enough. It did not make my beard feel greasy at all. It even says in the included paper that if your beard feels greasy after use, you used too much. It absorbs quickly into your beard and skin. I was wearing a nice dress shirt when I first used it. It did not leave any stains on it, or on my nice jacket. As for controlling beardruff, I can't say. I get beardruff frequently, though I've previously kept it under control with my head and shoulders shampoo. Other reviews say it does, so I'm going to stop using the head and shoulders to see if it works. I've used this both on a very damp beard and on dry. I found it works and absorbs better on a damp beard. When I used it dry, I found it kinda beaded up on my beard and I had to really work it in. I then used a boar bristle beard brush to finish working it through and brush my beard. This product did exactly what it is intended to do, and it does it well. I plan to continue to purchase this and use it regularly. 5 stars! And I definitely recommend this for anybody with a beard, long or short! Edit: I just wanted to pop in and add a second picture. 8 years later I still use this product, and it still works great!

Good product with some drawbacks.
This is my first beard conditioning product so keep in mind while reading this review. Nothing to compare it to. The most important question for a product like this is: Will it soften and condition my beard/facial hair? The answer is: YES. To a degree. I've been using this product a few times a week for about 2.5 weeks and I can definitely feel a welcome softness that wasn't there before. How much softer can a beard get? No idea. But considering how rough it was before, THIS STUFF MADE A DIFFERENCE AFTER THE FIRST USE. In fact, after three uses, a coworker made a comment that my beard looked better. More full than usual. That was kind of nice. So what's my problem with it? 1. You really don't get much for the money. It's suggested you use this daily. Well depending on the size of your beard (and mine is pretty small), you're going to run out fairly quickly. I haven't tried any other brands yet, less expensive or otherwise, but I felt like for the money, the amount you get is just a bit disappointing. 2. It's GREASY as hell. (Seems obvious but keep reading). It's also suggested that for best results you treat this product as a "leave in" conditioner. Meaning you can leave it in for hours or even until your next shower. So far this has been problematic. It's damn difficult to clean off my hands after applying to my beard. One does not simply rinse this this stuff off. One must get soap, warm water, and SCRUB your hands down thoroughly. Also, if you leave it in, it's going to get on your hands again...and again...and again throughout the day. So beware of this. All in all, it's a good product. It's done what it's designed to do with success. It doesn't smell bad, comes in a nice little tin, and doesn't irritate the skin. As long as you understand how amazingly greasy this stuff is and can deal with that, go for it. My experience with this product has been good enough to buy it again but I plan to try a few other brands before returning to see if there's something with better overall value and comparable results.

No better product on the market
I purchased this product on October 24, 2014 and honestly could not be happier with the results. I have a long beard (relatively, about six inches from chin to tip). It's thick and the sides can be extremely unruly. Like most beardsmen (and anyone who knows a little bit about hair at all), I do not wash my beard every day, as doing so strips it of all of the natural oils which can lead to a dry, wiry, and coarse beard, which nobody wants. However, my face under the beard is prone to become extremely dry and even painful after a day of not washing it. The dandruff that would come out of my beard by the second day would rival Buffalo, NY's snow storms. Hence my reason for purchasing this particular beard balm. No beard oil I have ever purchased did anything to subdue the terribly itchy, dry, flaky skin under my magnificent face fur. I would even get particular patches on my chin where I could almost peel the dry skin off in one big piece. Gross, I know, but bear with me. I have been using the Honest Amish beard balm for almost a month now and the difference is incredible.Though the flaky skin has not been entirely eliminated, my face is not itchy, or painful at all. The dry patch I spoke of before is totally gone. For the sake of testing, I have gone an entire week without washing my beard and only using the beard balm. The flaky skin never got any worse. It's very mild and extremely manageable with just a bit of brushing. So, in short, this balm has helped my dry and flaky chin skin significantly. As I've said before, my beard is naturally soft. But with this beard balm, it's nearly as soft as the hair on my head, which is just remarkable. There's basically no difference in softness if I run my hand from the side of my head, down my sideburns, into my beard. Lastly, to address the previous issues with the smell and feel. The first time I used it, I used way too much and my beard was greasy. However, I discovered that for my size of beard, I need less than a fingertip's worth of balm to work through and condition my entire beard. A little goes a very long way. When using just the amount I need, there is no greasy feel. Also, it helps to actually massage it in, as per the instructions. The beard absorbs the balm very well. And for the smell, it does not smell like licorice. I suppose to the untrained nose with no other reference to go by, licorice could be the most accurate description, but I assure you, anise is not the primary smell. It smells wonderful and it wears off after awhile (or perhaps my nose just gets used to it). It's more of a woodsy, slightly smoky smell with a hint of anise, if anything at all. I rather enjoy it. So, I will continue buying this product as long as I have a beard (or, forever). I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a better product for their beard and for a solution to dry skin. This stuff is the full monty, worth every penny. Do not hesitate to make the purchase. For you, and for your beard.

Nothing compares
Always had honest amish slick wax, first time using the beard balm and they are both absolutely awesome products. Very softening, smells good and no itchy beard!
