OXO Good Grips Bathtub Drain Protector

This drain protector does an excellent job. It stays in place, allows water to flow down the drain well without backing up, and prevents hair from going down the drain too. I've had a few types of drain protectors over the years, and this one is the best by far.

Love these drain protectors. I have quite a considerable mane of hair, so a "hair snare" of some sort is necessary. In the past, I've used multiple types in the past, most of which were plastic/synthetic and they all had unfavorable issues. The POSITIVE points: - Holes are small enough to catch hair, but large enough to allow water to flow through easily. You don't end up standing in a tub full of water. - This particular model is perfect size for the drain in a tub/shower combination. OXO also makes one for the larger size shower drains. - The synthetic ring helps it to gently cling to the drain area, without impeding the flow of water and hair catching ability. The weight is substantially more for this design (stainless), than most others (plastic), but not too heavy. Just a nice, yet appropriate heft. - The stainless steel is durable and rust proof. - The hair is very easy to remove from the protector, just lift it off, it doesn't cling or go in the holes making it tangle. - AAA+++ all the way, another winning design by OXO (and NO I wasn't paid, nor did I receive anything for my review!) Just a darn good product. The NEGATIVE points: - None really - One customer complained that it wouldn't stay put while he was taking a bath. Note to that customer: Sir, you have a physics problem. NO drain protector is designed to stay put during a bath, you see the force of the water swishing around, negates the natural weight and design of this product or any drain protector for that matter - hence the water 'current' moves it. You don't need the drain protector whilst taking a bath anyway, you need it when the tub is draining. Place the drain protector over the drain when you switch from bathing to draining; it will work fine. If for some reason, you do still want one that stays put while bathing, try one of the plastic ones with suction feet on the bottom. I can tell you though, after using MANY drain protectors, this one is far and away the best I've encountered. Used properly, it's a winner!

This drain cover mostly sits snug in the drain hole. Make sure to measure your drain and order the correct size. It should fit perfectly over the drain. It has no suction cups, but the silicone grips well without it. This drain cover does the job for a regular amount of running water from a shower head. However, if you have a faucet on the bottom that sprays directly over this drain cover, the cover will get moved out of the way. If you have a facuet that pushes this out, it works well with a more sturdy top drain cover, possibly with suction. If you use a higher drain cover that fits over this drain cover you should block 99% of any head hair, body hair, or other debris going down the drain. Needless to say, stopping hair from going down the drain will slow water drainage. You may need to clean this out every time you shower if you want the drain to work properly. You need to sacrifice some drainage flow rate if you want to catch the hairs going down. Be careful removing the hairs from this if you are actively showering. You may take the cover off the drain and send a clump of hairs down on accident. Cleaning this is extremely easy. It does tend to collect soap scum. Most stuff will rinse off with some light scrubbing with your fingers. If the mess lingers you might need some cleaner. Tldr; If you have a faucet that may push this off the drain, this may not be for you if you are looking for a single drain cover. Otherwise works great, especially with another top drain cover with suction or holding power.

The best. Swipe hair off the surface as it accumulates. And let the gasket air out after use for longevity. We've tried several other hair catchers, the mushroom, the bristle one, they still clog and don't clean off quickly. This OXO is the most simple and effective.

This saves my pipes! I have long hair and it was clogging the drain constantly. This is amazing and catches all the hair, zero clogs since i started using it. It stays in place and lets the water flow unlike some tighter meshed ones. It’s easy to remove the hair from the top, and doesn’t get stuck.

We used this product in a standard bathtub. This worked well for longer strands of hair but shorter ones definitely fell through the holes. It stayed in place over the drain, although at times would slip slightly and have to be readjusted. Works as intended, but in an older home with old plumbing I looked elsewhere for something that could catch ALL the hair.

UPDATE Oct, 2016: We now have three of these, two for tubs and one in the wash basin my wife often uses to wash her hair. It fits perfectly over the top of the pop-up drain plug, allowing it to lift just a little if you push the plug all the way up, but still ride low enough at midway to let water drain and make a good seal with the silicone ring. There's no problem with it sliding around, because it's held in place by the pop-up. Those drains are soooo hard to clean if hair gets down there. You can still close the drain when you want without removing the unit, but if you're washing your hair in the sink, make sure the stopper is not up too high. Original Review: I have old fashioned porcelain tubs in my "vintage farm house", and the drain is rusted and jagged, so it grabs hair and makes it stick, causing a clog very fast. My wife has hair to her butt, so this is a constant problem. I certainly don't want the wife to get rid of her beautiful hair, so something had to be done! I first mistakenly ordered the Oxo shower drain protector, which was too big and hard to keep in place. It caught a lot of hair, but still allowed it to go under sometimes... longer between required cleanings (a nasty nasty job) but it still happened. When I saw this one, specially made for bathtubs, I read all of the many reviews and was prepared for problems that others had seen. I carefully measured my drain, which was exactly the right size, and I saw that the tub had an indentation around the drain which should hold the protector in place. I ordered the product (this one) and it fit perfectly. It stays in place, not because of the silicone ring, but because the tub has the mentioned indentation. It is easy to clean just by either sweeping your fingers across the top to pick up the hair or by lifting it out and wiping it into the trash bag. After 3 weeks of use, I took it out yesterday to see how much hair was sticking to the rusted jagged cross-bars in the drain and it was still completely clean! Can't ask for more than that! I'm a very happy Oxo customer!

Second and third purchase. This works great and fits well but only if you shed moderate amount of hair when bathing. The drain does flow slower than if you use it but it might be marginal depending on your shower flow.
