3 yrs later still loving it ! Works very well - buttons are placed badly & NOT a fullsize shopvac
August 2023 - First, let me say, I am very happy with this vacuum! So, if you are looking for a cordless vacuum & have realistic expectations, this will fill the bill. (see my Jan2026 update below) I am small & my home is cluttered & so hauling around a plugged-in vacuum is a pain. I have hard floors & use a broom & dustpan or my shop vac for major stuff BUT for cleaning upholstery, under couch cushions, the steps in the garage & other minor stuff, this rocks. BUT it DOES NOT come close to what a plugged-in vac will do. So, if you are looking for that you will be disappointed. I knew that going in. I do not have kids or pets BUT I also am not the best housekeeper, so stuff gets messy. I do a lot of crafts & this cleans up well after them. I keep it plugged in & grab it & the fluff from rotory cutting quilt pieces is gone. It lasts about 15 minutes at high speed and you need to go over things several times to get a lot of fluff/thread off of upholstery BUT it does do the job, is light & easy to use. My biggest complaint is that the power button is right where I want to put my thumb to steer it… so it is easy to turn on & off & to amp up the power BUT I keep turning it off accidentally. Minor annoyance. Cleaning it is easy BUT not as hands free as they insinuate. I still get dust everywhere when I pull out the filters to clean them & it needs to be cleaned at about the same time the power stops. I clean it after ever use. The filters are easy to clean and I use a bit of soap & water gently rubbing to get the dust out of the finer filter so it isn’t clogged for next time. I make sure they are completely dry before reinstalling them & wipe the dust off the outside since it is plastic & the dust sticks to it due to the static plastic creates. All of this is what I expected so I am very happy with it. Update: Jan2026 - I now have 2 cats and I use this EVERY day for the litter that goes everywhere as they lunge out of their boxes and over the litter catching mats (Banging head on wall). I got extra white inside filters & trade them off after I wash the dirty one with soap & water. They have lasted for over 2 years (most excellent!) Sooo this little vac is wonderful BUT after 2.5 years it was making a high pitched squealing noise someone described as "screaming" and wasn't picking up as well... so I looked on YouTube & found a vid of a guy taking it apart & cleaning the inside (it is a vaccuum - it has other filters inside & it gets dusty inside) So I thought why not? I have tools; I can fix stuff. So I followed his instructions. Super Fab! It worked! Back to being normally loud!! AND I was able to actually find 2 filters on the sides he hadn't found. All of the ones inside are washable too. If you need to do this yourself > Look for the YouTube vid "Black and Decker Dustbuster repair. Motor loud. How to fix. Fixing a Handheld Vacuum Cleaner" and follow along. Read the 2 caveats & TAKE a TON of pictures as you go so you know how to put the wires back or you cannot close it after cleaning it - you can read my full how to comments in his vid as vrr3256 in Oct25 AND VERY IMPORTANT (1) you will need a #1 Philips head screwdriver (ONE not the size most people have lying around which is a 2) and the blade MUST be at least 6" long to get one of the screws in & out!!! If you don't have that, get it 1st. It is actually very hard to find a long #1 philips (who knew?!?) and a socket is too thick to fix in the hole. 2nd caveat - If you cannot get it to easily snap into place when putting it back together... you have wires that are being pinched & not laying flat. That was the hardest part... figuring out where the wires were supposed to go so I could actually close the bloody thing. I would suggest taking some really good pictures!! as you go. His vid is not as details on this as I needed. BUT otherwise it is a great vid and this is still a great vacuum cleaner!!

MY NEW BF.. Finally A Product That Works As Advertised!
Wow, I have to admit how pleasantly surprised I was to receive a purchased product that works as advertised! I just received it today with very quick shipping (so Kudos to Amazon for improved shipping), and briefly looked over directions to get it on the charger and fully charged (as directions recommend) so that I could test my new B&D furbuster hand vac asap. I have several products recently purchased in prior Amazon orders that I'll be driving to UPS tomorrow to return and I wanted to verify if this product was going to be added to that list of returns and do so all in one trip. I must say that this honestly exceeded my expectations and let me be clear, I typically review a product for 1 of 2 reasons: 1. because it's a great product that works, looks, does as advertised that deserves recognition, and because I feel that other consumers should be able to rely on trustworthy feedback from legit Amazon members that actually purchased the products they're reviewing. 2. Because the product is horrible and fails to do as advertised, or customer service for that product is very poor or altogether absent (meaning you don't get a response from their so called customer service when you have questions or need product assistance). I admit that I won't use valuable time to review those purchases/products that are what I call the "In Between Great & Horrible Products", meaning not great, but not horrible. That being said, in the short period I've had this hand vac I am extremely pleased. YOU GO BLACK & DECKER, FOR A JOB MORE THAN WELL DONE!!! First, I love the design of the hand vac over all, it stands very firmly on the end opposite of the handle while charging, or you could lay it down if need be, because there is no bulky cradle used for charging as many other hand vacs have. It's very light to hold and maneuver and feels natural to use (even for someone that has physical limitations or back, hip, shoulder problems such as myself with fibromyalgia, bursitis, si problems, advanced arthritis, and carpal tunnel), as well as how easy it is to use the 2 accessories. The built in extended crevice tool which you simply slide/pull out to use as needed, and the ingenious designed brush attachment with rubber type bristles great for picking up hair and fur, and it is a motorized brush that actually works as intended, it DOESN'T require any type of upper body or hand strength to attach the brush either, as it very easily clicks into place when attaching it and can be removed just as easily. After the charging process completes for the initial use (which btw was very simple to do by plugging the small charging adapter into an electrical outlet after plugging the other end of the adapter cable into the hand vac) the battery light located by the power button on the hand vac indicates when it's fully charged. Simply remove the charging adapter plug from the hand vac and you're all set, ready to clean everything & anything your heart desires. In the short time I had the product today after it was fully charged, I was actually looking for things to clean in addition to the cleaning tasks I purchased this hand vac for (cleaning pet/cat hair off furniture, steps, cushions, etc and for cleaning up kitty litter that unfortunately gets tracked throughout my entire home in addition to the surrounding areas of my litter robots and spare litter pan, no matter what type, brand, priced, etc of litter I purchase (as I've tried them ALL).. This hand vac allowed me to clean numerous areas with litter and pet hair both, and did so very quickly and easily without breaking my back in the process! And the battery still had plenty of charge remaining if I had more to clean. I'm also very grateful that this hand vac is no where near as loud as all of my previous hand vacs were (at least the ones that worked well anyway). Keep in mind this is my initial review after 1 day of using this product so I'll be sure to update my review in a few months from now to confirm if its still working as well as it did today, if the battery works and lasts as advertised, or if I discover any additional pros and cons. In this review I gave battery life only 4 stars just for the time being,. However, once I've had time to use the hand vac long enough to drain the battery entirely, I'll update whether it deserves 5 stars or less than my initial 4 stars for the battery. Overall, I give this product 5⭐ and I would highly recommend it to anyone that has pets, or anyone with physical limitations that has little body strength and needs a dependable user friendly hand vac!

Powerful, Handy, and My New Arm Workout
This Dustbuster is great, and I’m very happy with it. I bought it to make vacuuming the stairs easier because hauling the full-size vacuum up and down was starting to feel like a CrossFit session. The brush attachment works well on the stairs, and the suction is impressive on both low and high settings (easily picked up the spider my cats had found/terrorized/abandoned). It picked up fluff easily. It came with a .25 charge and I was able to fully charge it in a few hours. The size is great and similar to the old fashioned dustbusters. My only complaint is that the battery is located in the handle, which makes it a bit heavy on the wrist. This is not a problem for up to a minute, but after that it starts to feel heavy. I started wondering if I was vacuuming or training for a weight lifting competition. I tried switching hands, but my non-dominant arm was like, “Absolutely not.” I do not have too many stairs, and I was able to power through for the 5 minutes it took me to do the stairs. I don't believe i would have been willing to go much longer than this. The noise level didn’t bother me at all. It’s not whisper-quiet, but my cats didn’t bolt out of the room in terror, which is their usual standard for judging chaos. So that’s a win. All in all, this Dustbuster made cleaning the stairs faster, easier. Highly recommend, but I would caution those who have diffculty handling weight in the hands and wrist while performing a task.

This is great for beds, furniture, automobiles
This little vacuum is a beast. Hands down the best little hand held vacuum. I use this to vacuum my furniture and beds. It works so well I ordered another one for my vehicle. I have a SUV and this is perfect to keep it clean inside. The suction is very strong. Hold a great charge about 45mins. Has 2 settings for pickup. Not real loud. I have already had people asking where I got it. Run go grab it I promise you won’t regret it. I have a shark handheld and this vacuum is way better..

Designed by someone who has given up on their job, or quite possibly, life itself
I'm a single guy who lives alone, so I really don't make much of a mess other than some crumbs and dirt that I track inside. The two miniature panthers I live with; however, are disgusting heathens who leave hair, more hair, and even more hair all over the place. I was looking for something that would allow me to take care of quick messes instead of breaking out the evil vacuum that gives the panthers night terrors: my pizza crumbs, or perhaps a glob of hair that one certain panther likes to leave behind every so often. So I thought I did some good research and found the right dust buster for me. I read tons of reviews, both good and bad, checked out the specs, and even looked at what spare parts are available since it could be a sign of what breaks most often. Boom. Sold. It arrived today, and my initial impression was: "meh". After a few hours to get it charged up, I took it for a test spin on hardwood floors, a countertop, some carpet, and a couch cushion. The second most annoying thing about this dust buster (I'll get the most annoying in moment) is that you have to cycle through both the low and high speeds to turn it off, and there seems to be a small delay in transitioning between the speeds and turning off. In other words, you can't just press the power button twice very quickly. You have to press it once, let it cycle into what sounds like a launch of some sort of space rocket, and then press again a second or two later to get it to turn off. This drove me nuts. The suction was OK on the hard surfaces, but it sucked - or rather didn't suck so well on carpeting and the fabric cushion. The most annoying thing about this is that the pre-filter and filter (they're connected) fall out when you go to empty the thing. The instructions and common sense state to hold it over a trash bin, press the release button on the canister, and lightly shake to get the debris out. This happens before the light shaking even begins. After a bit of detective work, I was able to determine that this is caused by the pre-filter. It's simply too heavy to allow the filter to remain attached. Aside from being the thing that will make you go fishing through whatever you just sucked up to retrieve it, the pre-filter does a great job of caking and compacting dust that will surely burn up the motor sooner rather than later. Third most annoying thing (only going to list three, but I could go on) is that there is no place to mount it, the charger is awkwardly designed - don't break or lose it (and is white?), and it just doesn't fit anywhere. It's not some sort of showpiece I want out on display for all to see, but who has electrical outlets in their hallway closet to charge something like this? You'll be stuck with this sitting out in a room, which isn't so bad when it's brand new out of the box, but disgusting after one use. I know some people seem to love this thing, but some people also take a lot of medication. Maybe there is a correlation there, maybe there isn't. My advice is to stay away from it. Far away.

Works well on stairs
I needed a handheld vacuum for carpeted stairs in my home. This little vacuum is exceptional on steps. It has two speeds and roller brush. I have two dogs and this vacuum picks up all the dog hair. I am very happy with it!

COMPARISON, PROS, CONS: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW.
First, let me start out by saying that I purchased both this B&D Dustbuster Cordless Pet Vac -AND- the Shark Ultracylone Handheld Vac. I returned both, and I explain why below. Let's talk about the best aspects of the B&D first: +The most impressive thing bout this vac is that it had an honestly decent run time when fully charged. You get the promised 20 minutes (10 in the lower setting). +The battery indicator is a nice feature, and give the button a more upscale feel. +The rotary brush works better than that of the Shark. It's wider and has teeth that grab loose fibers in your carpet. +While it comes with no caddy, the vac sits on its end when not in use. This is one of the better design features. +It has a slide-out "tongue" that can THEORETICALLY get in between your car seats to vacuum out that stray French fry the managed to find its way in between your seats. +Bigger dust bin that the Shark, and not as difficult to open as the Shark's bin. The poor aspects of the B&D: + It is comprised of both shiny and matte finished cheap plastic. However, it was more durable and attractive looking than the Shark. B&D pearlized the gray plastic in the body of the vac. That doesn't change the fact that B&D did not use expensive materials when designing this thing. +The dust bin door has a sturdier button than that of the shark, but it kind of just 'swings' open and hangs there when you go to empty it. +The charging cord is white a/c with two prongs. I like it better than the typical a/c black cord with a single female end that came with the shark. Both cords look like what used to come with Casio calculators and any Coleco handheld game in the 80's. Cheap looking, and flimsy, but they do the trick. +Everything sticks to the filter that is at the "core" of the dust bin, so you must pull the filthy lint from it with your fingers. Yuck! +The rotary head has two plastic "fins" or "pegs" that straddle the vac head and serve to support it while is it slid onto the vac. These are cheap, thin, plastic and they are destined to break. It's not a question of if, but rather a question of when. They WILL break off, and soon. +NO brush attachment, and it cannot be added either. I visited the B&D website to do research, and found it to be a mess. It freezes, and the comparisons feature didn't work, so I was on my own. This vac was not deeply discounted for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I got this vac from Amazon quickly, and was eager to take it out for a spin. I ran my own tests. First I tested it with the rotary brush on the stairs, and I was impressed. I have wool berber carpeting and the teeth in the head of the vac really grip the surface of whatever you're vacuuming. The dust bin quickly filled up with wool fibers and I thought this vac held promise! That is where my love affair with this vac ends, unfortunately. You cannot keep the vac head engaged while extending the long chute (I call it an "aardvark tongue") used to reach in between objects. And when you take off the vac head, it has very low suction. Because the mouth of the vac is the extendable purple, plastic chute with a very distinct ridged design on the business end of the vac, you cannot add an attachment to it. To make matters worse, the ridged lip does not allow you to make contact with the surface you're vacuuming. No contact equals no suction. And since we are on the subject, the suction is nothing to write home about when you are using the vac without the head. I did my own test and cut up an apple into French fry sized pieces. The vac could barely pick up one apple straw on its highest setting, and that was because I hovered over it, kind of guiding it into the vac. Real-life situations will demand better performance. No one is going to chase a crum around trying to get it into the dust bin. I felt like a kid playing with that stupid "ball and cup game" where you try to swing the ball into the cup by the attached string. It was the lackluster for suction. But hey, the apple piece made it into the bin. I did the same test with the Shark with similar results, BUT it clogged the dust bin in the Shark. Want to dust something like a piece of furniture with the B&D? Well, you can't, simply because the purple chute doesn't actually make contact with the surface, so it just pushed dust around. Because there is no brush at the end, you could scratch your furniture. Don't think about adding a brush to the end either. B&D does not sell one and the proprietary chute has a unique end that prevents you from ordering a generic kit. How about using the extendable chute to get that wayward French fry from between your car seats? Yeah, that's not going to happen. Because the moment you extend the chute, you lose most of the very mediocre suction you had to begin with. See how useless this vac is? As mentioned above, the dust bin is larger than that of the Shark, and easier to open. But that isn't saying much. The Shark's bin is pitiful, and you have to use two hands to get the Shark's bin to open; and when it does, it "flies" open. The Shark's bin is cheap plastic with an even cheaper "micro spring" serving to propel the bin open. It doesn't work. by contrast the B&D doesn't use a spring, but rather just gravity, and it is not a very satisfying experience. I found that crud accumulated all around the filter core in the dust bin, and I had to pry it from the core. it was like peeling cotton candy off a wet stick using your fingers--yuck! So now that I've crucified this vac, what is it good for? The answer is that this vac's capacity is limited in scope to upholstery (using the rotary head). It will catch a few loose threads left behind from your socks. It can vacuum stairs, and just maybe get a few crumbs from your car seats. But since the suction using the chute is almost non-existent, and because without a brush at the end (even if it did have suction), it would scratch everything it touches. Remember, it's hard plastic! By comparison, the Shark Ultracylone comes with brush attachments that faired better on getting pebbles from my car mats. But because the Shark's rotary head uses plastic fins instead of teeth/pegs like the B&D, it didn't do as well on upholstery. The Shark also doesn't fit in between seats. You see, it has NO tongue-like chute like the B&D. Furthermore, the Shark is kind of shaped like an alligator. It looks visually more appealing from a design perspective. But it's a shame that engineers didn't actually test it in real-life applications. You cannot get the Shark in between seats, and the attachments provided are too short to be effective at cleaning anything, so what's the point. The Shark is also a more junky plastic, with some of the parts being made from that brittle, clear lucite from which children's toys are made. In fact, the Shark reminded me of a child's toy, and the B&D was not far behind. Another thing I didn't like about the Shark was that it had no caddy (you could buy one for $30 extra dollars), and unlike the B&D design, it didn't incorporate a flat surface for when the vac is not in use. If I could marry these two vacuums' best features, we might end up with a useable product. But since neither could clean my car or dust my furniture, I didn't see the practicality in keeping a clunky, cheap plastic, vac around for the sole purpose of sucking up a few stray pieces of sock lint form my stairs. One other quick note: I emailed both B&D and Shark with concerns with their sites, promotions, or both. Neither had working chat features on their sites or on FaceBook. The B&D site was so archaic, that it looks as if it is written in html. While B&D's site is hideous, they did reply to me. The email from them was typed by a human, but looked like the font and text lines that a daisy wheel printer from the 80's would produce; BUT they DID reply. Shark ignored me, but continued to spam my inbox with ads for products that weren't on sale (they had more exclusions than they did products, rendering the promos completely without purpose). Save your money and skip the B&D Dustbuster Pet Series -AND- the equally unimpressive Shark Ultracyclone Handheld Vac. You cannot bake a standard sized cake with an Easy-bake Oven, and likewise you will not have success vacuuming with these toy-like vacs.

Not a vacuum for pet hair...at all
This product Is not fit for purpose given it is positioned as a pet-vacuum. I bought it as I wanted something to suck up my dog's fur on the carpet and on timber surfaces. It does neither with any effectiveness! I have previously owned B&D hand vacuums and they have worked well but this is probably the worst vacuum I have ever had the misfortune of buying. It doesn't even really work in the car. Don't waste your money - it is a not a pet vacuum, not even a dust buster. Rather, buy the Dyson option which costs a little more but is infinitely superior in vacuuming up pet hair
