Works fine to charge a partially discharged battery but won't charge a completely dead one
I bought the BatteryMINDer 1510 to charge/maintain my car batteries during the pandemic. The 1510 is a very small unit, so I wasn't entirely sure it was up to the task, but a family member assured me he had been using BatteryMINDer products for years to maintain his extra cars and had never been disappointed.Once I had used the product as intended, I wasn't disappointed, either.Please note that the BatteryMINDer 1510 is a smart charger, which means there is a minimum potential required for the unit to realize it needs to charge the battery. It will NOT charge a battery with less than 3V of potential. The manual--and the product website--did not make this caveat clear other than mentioning rather laconically that a flashing red light could mean a polarity issue (ie, the user hooked the negative clamp to the positive terminal or vice-versa) or a battery with less than 3V of potential remaining. The manufacturer seems to assume customers are familiar with the concept of smart charging as it specifically relates to charging a 12V battery (it's not the same concept as smart charging an electric vehicle, for example). I am not an electrical engineer, and I had never used a smart charger/desulfator before.The car I was most interested in charging had a completely dead battery; when I hooked up the unit, it wouldn't charge, and the "polarity reversed" light flashed continually. Some people recommend using a "dumb charger" to bring the battery voltage up to 3V, but I was unable to find a dumb charger and didn't have the components to make one. I ended up calling AAA to jump the car, after which I hooked up the BatteryMINDer for 48 hours. It charged the battery with no problems. I plan to hook up each car to the BatteryMINDer a couple of times per week. (My garage setup won't allow me to hook up multiple vehicles to the same unit.)

Great Desulfinator/Charger will save many batteries that would have been bad.
I have used many battery desulfinators with varying results. BatteryMINDer is the only one that I honestly believe in and trust. This won't work in every case, but for me it has brought many batteries back from the dead or extended their life much more than I would have imagined. What I have learned is that if a battery is completely dead, you have to jump it to another or at least get some charge in it to get a smart charger to work. Once it starts most of the time it will just do its magic. Occasionally it may need to be reset and left again. One example I had was a truck for a neighbor that I volunteered to get going. It had sat in their driveway for more than a year and the battery would not hold a charge at all. I put the BatteryMINDer on it and had to connect another battery with jumper cables, but I left it for about three weeks. The truck started write up after this, but had some other issues, but teh battery turned it over strong and without this charger, i would have had to get a new battery since it wouldn't even light the cab lights after having the jumper cables connected for over an hour and then disconnecting it. We also have several tractors with two large batteries and this has worked for them also. One would start with jumper cables, but when left over night, needed to be jumped again to get started. After a week on this charger, it would start on its own for the rest of the season. Extending the life of a set of batteries for one season or more, more than pays for this wonderful battery charger/desulfinator. I have found that the small amperage doesn't seem to matter and it seems to work like larger chargers. Many times, just an hour or so on a diesel semi truck or tractor can be enough to start it and if I feel the battery is week, I will put it back on for a longer time. I feel one key to success for this is leaving it on the battery for a good while. A week is great, but seems like I have seen improvement after this so most of the time I will leave it on for several weeks if I can or even just use it as a maintainer through the off season. I have six of these now, some older models, but they all work great and I will rotate them around to different equipment through the winter.

Great Charger/Maintainer for a Motorcycle Battery!
I am most impressed with this unit. The only downside would be that the chart takes a while to figure out that is supplied with the unit. The charger as well as all of the accessories are well built. I looked at the Schumacher as well as the Battery Tender Jr. and Battery Tender Plus before purchasing the Battery Minder. After some research, I concluded, that this was by far the best charger that would suit my particular applications. For the little bit of difference in money between the Model 1500 vs. the 1510, the 1510 is definitely the better way to go. It gives you an additional 5 years warranty plus a quick connect fused connection as well as a fused connection for the battery clamps. I bought the charger mainly to use on my motorcycle (Honda Goldwing GL-1800) and the quick connector with the ring terminals was easy to hook up and is hidden out of the way. I do like the 5 step charging process and the main thing that swayed me toward the purchase of this product is the de-sulfation mode. I do believe that this process will lengthen battery life substantially. I am well pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a quality, low cost battery charger that will fit into just about any application.UPDATE: I was so pleased with the first BatteryMinder 1510 that I ordered a second one about five weeks later. Needless to say, I am just as happy with the second one. I use it for my motorcycle, garden tractor and automotive batteries. This battery charger is just a tad bit more expensive than the Battery Tender, but in my opinion, there is a tremendous difference in the two chargers, with the BatteryMinder being a far superior charger. I could not be happier with these purchases!

Still the best, if only...
I would like to start by saying that I think it is probably a "best of breed" charger, but with that said...I bought this to charge and maintain spare SLA batteries for our UPSes. The charger came with two charging cables - one with ring terminations and the other with spring clips. Of course the rings don't work at all, and the spring clips are much bigger than they need to be for the small "T2 (Faston Tab 250)" terminals on such batteries. The manufacture indicates that up to four batteries can be simultaneously maintained with a single charger, but their cable solution is big and clumsy, requiring a total of three Y-Cables, with fourteen connectors, fourteen connector covers, four fuse holders, four fuses, four fuse covers, and eight of the aforementioned over-sized spring-clips. If I counted right, there would be a total of 51 separate "things" just to connect four batteries. All of which would have cost more than the charger itself, while also resulting in a big bulky tangled mess.With that in mind, I decided to build my own "y" cable to fit the "T2" terminals on four batteries. I went to the local auto parts store hoping to find connectors that would mate with the one on the charger, but the closest thing they had was a trailer connector...kind of a low-end plug that is not commonly available except as a pre-terminated pigtail, as opposed to something that could readily accommodate the required four wires per conductor. We have a cable shop here, so we were able to make it work anyway, but the connector format made it clumsier to build, and less sleek than it would have been if we could have gotten better connectors. To make matters worse, the plug is at the end of a long-ish wire, so unless we want to void the warranty, we are stuck with a bunch of cable that we don't need, and a connector that we don't like. I think it would be much better to have a better plug that is much closer to the charger, perhaps a foot away, then sell the required charging cables in various lengths. BattteryMINDer could certainly do this, because they are just using common 18 AWG zip cord. And they are selling the accessory cords and connectors at a price that is high enough to make the cost of the wire itself insignificant.The next issue is the outlet-mounted design. For someone charging a single battery in the garage, this is probably a non-issue, but speaking for myself, I would much rather have a stand-alone charger that would be equally at home on a work bench or a wall mount. The thing is big enough that two will not fit side by side in double-ganged outlets. BatteryMINDer does have a model with a line cord on it, but it still doesn't lend itself to bench-top use, and I read some negative comments about it not working well with SLA batteries, which is our main application.Next are the LED status indicators. They are, IMHO, all but useless. I couldn't make any sense out of them until I hooked up a pair of multimeter so that I could monitor both voltage and current during the charging cycle. Only then could I tell when the charger would transition between modes, and at that point, the lights almost make sense, but not really. For example, the blue LED, labeled "DESULFATING" doesn't seem to have anything at all to do with that mode. If the manual can be believed, the charger is always desulfating, unless it is testing for voltage drop, so by all rights, the desulfating light should always be on except during the 10 minute sulphation check.It would be a lot more useful to have status lights that indicate the actual mode the charger is in, such as:Soft Start (constant-current charging at 0.35 Amps)Bulk Charging (constant-current charging at 1.5 Amps))Absorption Charging (constant-voltage charging at 14.4 Volts)Sulphated Check (no charging or desulfation)Float Charging (constant-voltage charging at 13.4 Volts)If the battery fails the Sulphated Check, it would be nice if it would just turn on an LED that is labeled, "Failed Sulphated Check". Or maybe it could change the Sulfated Check light green for passed and red for failed.As far as charging results go, I was a fan of pulse charging before pulse charging became mainstream, so I like that the BatteryMINDer incorporates that technology. The trouble is that one cannot see the desulfation without an oscilloscope, so it is a bit of a magic box to the average user. Once can’t tell if it’s doing anything special or not. In my experience, pulse charging really does make a difference, and the flavor incorporated in the BatteryMINDer seems to go beyond simple pulse charging, so I have high hopes for it.With that said, I have experiments with a total of six SLA batteries. Two are about two years old, out of a an APC UPS. They were initially replace because the UPS failed, but it turned out to be a problem with the UPS hardware, so I fished them out of the recycle bin and tried to charge them. APC seems to be hard on batteries, so I didn’t expect much, and after charging those batteries for a total of about days, they were still in sad shape.The other four batteries are B.B. Battery HR9-12, which might be considered to be premium SLA batteries. They had never been used, but were old stock. They were allowed to self-discharge to below 9 Volts, which I believe most would consider to be “shot”. In a series of charge/discharge cycles over the last few weeks, two of the four are approaching the performance of new batteries. The other two are improved, but it’s not clear if they will make it all the way back to full capacity. I started by charging each battery individually, then as they improved, started charging two in parallel. One thing that might be worth mentioning is that charging/desulphating is a slow process. I only have one of these chargers…it would be better to have one for every battery, and honestly, if one intends to use the manufacturer’s connectors and such, that would probably turn out to be less expensive, and a lot neater too. At that point one could simply take the including ring-terminal cable, chop off the rings and crimp on a couple of “T2” connectors and be good to go.If the BatteryMINDer guys wanted to do something really cool, they would come up with a competent battery tester, because it is problematic to determine the actual condition of a SLA battery. There is no way to read the specific gravity and resting voltage is an unreliable indicator. The only way that I have to test is to put a load on the battery and then observe and time the discharge cycle. Devices that can instantly asses the condition of an SLA battery do exist, but they are expensive. On the other hand, one can glean a lot of information by observing the exact way that a battery charges, especially if one can compare the actual results to an ideal sample of that same battery. It seems to me that it wouldn’t be all that difficult to build a charger that leverages the access that it has to the charging characteristics of a given battery in order to report its condition. In that way, users could see if the charger was making any progress.On the other hand, if one starts with new batteries and just wants to maintain them in a ready state for as long as possible, the BatteryMINDer Model 1510 probably does that job well enough, just as it comes, so long as one is willing to devote a charger to every battery, rather than deal with the currently available splitter hardware. But any battery will degrade with age, no matter how well it is maintained, so it would still be useful to have a way to test the capacity, short of a full discharge cycle, since the discharge cycle itself shortens the life of the battery.So bottom line, even with all of the shortcomings that I have mentioned, I haven’t see anything better, so until something better comes along, I would buy it again. I knocked off a star for the awkward connectors and the silly status lights.

I think this saved me having to buy a whole new car battery.I am now using it when I leave my car parked (for days at a time). there's no way to know how well it works other than having good car starts in the AM and not having a 'sagging' battery if you leave the car parked for long periods of time, or take lots of short trips (which does not allow enough time to keep the battery charged).I think that was my problem. I took a short term contract job that was very local and the commute was only a few miles. for a few months, my car was fine; but after a few months of 'short trip' commutes in the AM and PM, the battery was not getting charged enough and started to act like it was dead. I bulk charged the battery with a larger charger, to get it back up again; but once I did that, I left this connected overnight whenever I could, and now, weeks later, I think the battery is back to normal again.its nice that I have an easy AC outlet not too far from where my car is parked; and its parked on private property so I don't worry about anyone taking the charger (its outside, but under a cover) or messing with my cables. it would be ideal if you could leave your car charging while inside and secure, but that isn't always the case.also, from reading up on this project and one other (a tender version; so named) - this one is the one that comes up as being more reliable and preferred. time will tell, as I've only had this a few months, but so far its been working out ok.

Greatly extends battery life. Pays for itself in no time
I have two old collector cars and a H-D motorcycle. All three sit a lot of the time. I was replacing batteries in them every 3 years; sometimes less. Vehicles that sit kills batteries. I used to put a tender on them too. A couple of my old car buddies swore by this desulfator; best thing ever. I bought the Batterymider 1510 five years ago and rotate through my vehicles....leave it on for a month on each one. Since using this desulfator I haven't replaced a battery on those 3 vehicles. One battery is 12 years old now and the other two are 8 years old; all work fine. Works fantastic for vehicles/batteries that sit for extended periods of time. I paid less for this desulfator than for any one of my batteries.

Excellent trickle charger.
Easy to connect to the battery wiring and can add SAE extension wiring for parking vehicle on the driveway and still have the battery charger connected. It is easy to check battery voltage weekly and reconnect charger when needed. It can also be left plugged in for extended periods even if under a vehicle cover.

Good bang for the buck and it does what it supposed to, given enough time.
I usually don’t review much products, but this one I have to. Been on the desulfating road for a long time, built my own kickback, voltage doubler and high powered desulfators. I also have others like wizbang, infinitum, pulsetech desulfaltors and Ctek and Enersys chargers.So here is the story. Got two 3 year old Group 31 starting batteries with 925CCA each. The was no sign of damage to the battery plates and the battery was still straight (no sign of a deformed case). Came out of an 18 wheeler that had a 3 battery setup. One was totally toast, the other two sat outside for the whole Canadian winter. So I took them home and checked SG on both batteries at no higher than 1150 SG. I’ve ran them in my high powered desulfator for a week each, but both batteries would not go to SG 1300 on all cells. Some cells seemed to be stuck at a certain SG level of 1250 and wouldn’t budge.So I bought this little Batteryminder 1510 and let it do it’s thing for another 12 to 14 days on each battery.Now these batteries measure SG 1300 on all cells and recovered to 900 CCA.Bang for the buck, you can’t go wrong with this thing. It is not the fastest charger or desulfator per se, but given enough time of being continuous connected to a battery for at least 2 weeks or better even longer, it will get the battery in very good shape, if the plates inside and the bus isn’t damaged.It will not fix a broken or damaged battery like lead shedding, broken bus, corroded or cracked plates, a buldge on the side etc. These aren’t good candidates to try to begin with and will never recover well.
