Better Than The Cheap Stuff
I own lots of reels from ultralight spinners to heaving baitcasters and these sit somewhere in the middle. I use spincasts when kayaking down rivers because I can operate them with 1 hand leaving my other hand free to control the yak, etc. They never tangle and work with any lure weight (i.e. light stuff for streams). Unfortunately, the cheaper Zebco models simply do not hold up over time when used in frequent casting applications. I've gone through too many 33's (and micros) to count and could barely make it through a summer with the cheaper models before cranking/casting became so rough as to be unusable. Enter the Omega line! The bearing system and brass drive is built to last even when used heavily in casting applications. Out of the box, these reels are just as smooth as my expensive Shimano baitcasters. Plus, they cast a country mile and never tangle or catch on the edge of the spool cover (no plastic!). Pros: The oscillating spool actually does work. With the cheaper models, landing any fish over a pound (or getting snagged) would screw up the line on the spool. The Omega does a much better job keeping the line nice and even for long, smooth casts in between fish. The ball bearings and metal gears are silky smooth (not unlike a baitcaster) making it much easier to detect bites and get the fish in. The drag works smoother than the cheaper models (although still not as good as a baitcaster). Dialing in the correct setting on the cheaper models can be frustrating (and hard on the finger). The drag roller and the drag itself works much smoother on the Omega. These are relatively lightweight. The push button is sealed (rubber cover) so dirt and sand cannot get into the gear chamber like it did/does on the 33's and cheaper models. As with all Zebco's, these are very easy to disassemble for cleaning and service. Cons: I wish the gear ratio were just a tad higher. The 3.4 actually does a decent job and is a good middle ground and very versatile, but I would prefer something right around 4 to 4.5. That said, the Bullet with the higher ratio is not as smooth as the Omega, so given the choice, I would prefer to keep the smoothness of the Omega over the higher ratio. The drag, while smooth, is a little on the weak side. Even at the max setting on the dial I cannot get the line to fully lock to the point I can break the line without the drag activating. Technically, some might see this as a Pro since we don't want our line breaking while on a fish right? I personally would prefer a slightly stronger drag. Overall, these have a quality feel and there really isn't anything else out there better in a push button spincaster.

This is a Great Reel
I have one I bought about 10 years ago, and it is still going strong. I recently started fishing again (serious not casual) and found I was constantly getting aggravated but baitcast issues and spinning line twist. The only constant, no-issue reel was the Omega Pro. Little line twist and no snarls or backlash, and casts a mile. The retrieve speed is a bit slower than a casting reel but I think the new version is a bit faster. It has lasted 10 years with no issues, just have to change the line out. I bought a second one for about half of what I paid 10 years ago. If you are looking for a quality reel that rivals high-end spinning and casting reels, this one is a steal for price. It comes with an additional spool and a second handle (at least both of mine did). At the price they are selling for ($56 last I saw) it is hard to go wrong.

A classic spincast reel
I purchased this Omega Pro as a backup for another Omega Pro (size 30 rod and reel combo) that I purchased back in 2022 and have absolutely loved fishing with these past few years. This reel gives me both the spare ez change line spool and extra double end reel handle that were not part of the Omega Pro rod and reel combo. This particular reel arrived on time was nicely packaged in its box and just as described by the seller in the listing. Spincast reels may be unfairly labeled as only for beginners and/or children but reels such as the Omega and the Zebco Bullet (which I also own and enjoy using, particularly with topwater lures) are definitely crafted to a much higher level than an entry level spincast reel. The Omega is ultra smooth on retrievals and a joy to cast. I have never had any problem with line twist, gear jams, etc that I have encountered with some of my other spinning and baitcasting reels. When I just want to get in a no-stress, no finesse fishing session I often find myself reaching for my Omega Pro or Bullet. I'm looking forward to many more years of enjoying the Omega Pro.

Good reel in its class
As spin cast reels go I rated it fairly high. I use a spin cast as I drive a tiller steered boat when take out family members, or go myself. It is nice to have a reel that gives no fuss. I have landed quite a few crappies and bluegills and other pan fish with it and have boated Northern pike and bass. After a little experimentation I use it on a lighter rod with 8 pound mono. It is not as good as the Bullet, Zebco's top spin cast but it functions. In addition, the reel has to stand up to pulling in big gobs of weeds which one catches while trolling as well as sometimes fish and weeds. My daughter gave up on spincasts which she liked, after seeing the less expensive reels break down, one in one trip. I use spinning and bait casting reels and in many instances prefer them such as a bait caster for bass fishing in heavy weeds. The Omega drag system is not the best and as others mention, I find that I have to keep an eye on it more than with the other reel types. I use a spinning reel for the lighter weight tackle due to that. When replacing the line, the level is fussy and one tends to over fill. It also has a slower retrieve than my other reels which may not be a bad thing as the bigger crappies tend to fight all the way in instead of being skipped on top. More fun that way. The reel is not as smooth as my spinning reels or bait casting, but they are noted for their smoothness. Paired with a good rod its a worthwhile reel, At least has stood up where the other spin casts have broken down.

Best spincast reel ever made
I already had 4 of these reels, two ZO3, and 2 of the ZO2. These reels are the Rolls Royce of spincast reels. The ocillating spool prevents "line digs" on the spool and I've never had one hang up from the line being dug in on the spool. 7 bearings makes is smooth as silk and almost silent when retrieveing. The spinner head has 3 pickup pins so it always catches the line. Plus it has two choices of handles, a single knob, which I like, and a double knob. And it comes with an extra "quick change" spool of line. I needed another one of these and found these at a bargain price so I ordered one for me and had another one sent to a friend in another state. If you're looking for the best spincast reel that money can buy, look no further, this is it.

Smooth and accurate
I recently purchased the Zebco Omega Pro Spincast Reel and I am extremely pleased with its performance. The reel is very easy to use and the spincast feature allows for a smooth and accurate casting. The size 30 reel is perfect for my needs and the drag system works very well. The reel is also very durable and well-constructed, which is important when using it out in the elements. I also appreciate the sleek design and the fact that it comes in multiple colors. I highly recommend this reel to any angler looking for a high-quality, easy-to-use spincast reel.

Savings from preventing $$ lures ending up in trees pays for the reel in one season of use!
I fish small streams from the banks. I’m in my 60’s so not a kid either. Loads of trees around me and on the far side of the stream. Also many logs and rocks and potential snags. About half of my casts are underhanded from the raised bank under tree branches meaning the rod tip is at or lower then my belt line during the cast. This reel makes fishing like that trouble free. I can make underhanded flip casts easily and if needed a simple push of the button stops the line from unspooling if my aim was not so great. When casts are unencumbered by trees this reel really shines. The line unspools very easy and the thumb control shines. This is not a toy reel for kids. It is a serious fishing reel that is meant for adults who have had it with the deficiencies of regular spinning reels for stream bank/lake bank fishing. The best feature is that it only requires one hand to make the cast. No need to get the bail positioned in just the right place and flip it over with my other hand. This is the high water mark for fishing reel design- maybe under spin design is slightly better but they share the same beneficial features.

I bought a cheapie spincast combo for her to try out and she liked it. After researching everything available I settled on ...
Update March /2017: After watching what was happening on our fishing trips, my wife decided to again try using an open-faced spinning reel. She quickly grew to appreciate the ease of casting, smoothness, and drag reliability of the open-face. With these incentives she's pretty well mastered her Shimano. With no further use for the Z02PRO rig I gave it to our next-door neighbor. He loves it. Momma's happy, neighbor's happy..........everybody's happy! We jig fish for trout with ultralight rigs. My wife just couldn't get the hang of using an open-faced spinning reel. I bought a cheapie spincast combo for her to try out and she liked it. After researching everything available I settled on this reel for her. As I unpacked it I was impressed with the packaging, the instructions, extra handle and spool. The smoothness of the reel was OK but not as good as it should be. Very often new reels are not properly lubricated so i immediately took it apart to make sure. There is a paragraph on the instruction sheet titled "RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE". It shows a picture of the disassembled reel along with points for oil and grease. Problem is they don't tell you how to get the back cover off so you can do it. You have to unscrew the front cover and spinnerhead, then remove the spool. This will reveal the 2 screws holding the back cover in place. Once the back cover is off you're ready to lube the reel. My reel had the typical blobs of grease here and there but there were parts of the gears that were dry. I spread the existing grease around making sure all gears were coated. I then oiled all bearings and shafts I could get to with Quantum Hot Sauce reel oil. Its expensive but its AMAZING stuff. After reassembly the reel was so much smoother running, a huge improvement. The next step was to remove the horrendous line that comes on the reel. It looks like coiled copper wire.......and feels like it too. I replaced it with Trilene XL monofilament (4 lb test for our type of fishing). The next chore was to find a proper casting rod to mount it on. There's thousands of casting rods available but virtually none made for light spincasting. I ended up getting a 6ft BassPro MicroLite. This makes a good combination with the ZO2PRO. My wife loves her new rig and can get excellent distance with a 1/16oz jig. She's gone from catching virtually nothing to really doing well. On our last 3 trips to the lake she's caught a total of 28 trout including a 21in (approx 4 lb) brown trout. She really loves this reel. For her I'm giving it 5 stars. Me? Not so much. While I think this is the best spincast reel on the market, that's still not saying much because they're all pretty poor. The ZO2PRO is an improvement but still has a lot of cheapness about it. The fit of components is pretty sloppy. The drag wheel is poorly located and drag action isn't very reliable. If your drag setting is important then you'd better check it often. The "Level-Wind Oscillating Spool System" isn't level winding. The spool moves fore and aft a measly 1/8in and the line forms a mound in the center of the spool. However, I do have to say the reel casts very well and the wife has had zero problems with line handling inside the reel. The quick change spool is a great feature and the spare spool is a nice touch. The spare spool is either carbon fiber or plastic and doesn't fit the shaft nearly as well as the metal spool installed on the reel. The extra handle is nice but the handle thing is really weird. The double handles curve outward from the reel and feel pretty good. The single handle, for some reason, curves inward and interferes with the thumb on my rod hand. The wife's hands are smaller and she doesn't have that problem. After all this, what's the bottom line? If you absolutely MUST have a spincast reel then this is the one to get. Before you take it fishing, lubricate it well and put a good quality line on it. I think you'll be pretty happy with it..

The real deal in spincasting…..if you want the best, just buy it.
The best spincasting reel ever made. Just do your research, check out youtube videos and you will see what I mean. Metal gears on breakdown, bearings for smooth operation…….this aint your daddys spincaster! Avid, experienced fishermen tend to look down on spincasting setups as something for kids to use. Certainly, spinning and baitcasting do offer enhanced abilities over spincasting…..but are these enhanced abilities (superior retrieval rate, superior drag system, higher line test capacity, etc…) necessary to catch fish? I can tell you from experience, the answer is a resounding “NO”. I have found the only serious limitation to be the necessity of using monofilament line, as one must do with ALL spincasting rods. What can I say, I like using braid🤷🏻♂️ Still, just out of the box and using the Cajun 10 lb line that came prespooled on the reel….the Zebco was pulling in amazing bass all week, including a fatty SMB that was well north of 6 lbs and fought like a lion. Also, a LMB that got hung up in cover, and took 10 mins to reel in at an extremely high load. The Zebco handled both beautifully and performed flawlessly throughout. If I were to consider any drawbacks to this reel, I would only say that the drag system is a bit finicky. Still, it had the best drag of any spincaster I can recall ever using🤷🏻♂️ Bottom line, if you want the best possible quality spincaster, there is no other option. The price is high compared to other spincaster reels, but they dont even come close to the Zebco pro3. When compared to modest quality spinning/baitcasting setups, the Zebco value goes way up….and as you can see, spinners and baitcasters are not necessary in order to catch nice fish and have a great time. Well done Zebco!

Excellent
Bought an ABU soincast combo for my 5 year old's birthday and whilst the rod is ok, the reel is shocking, plastic and cheap. Star drag snapped on first outing and couldn't hold the lure tight to the rod when clipped up. Enter the zebco, solid, ambidextrous (switched to left hand retrieve) and mostly importantly easy to use. Arrived on time to the UK. Don't know why more anglers in UK don't use these as starter reels before progressing to baitcast / fixed spools.
