Thanks Viewsonic for a cheap 3d projector
For the money, this is a really feature-packed projector. I was looking for a projector that has 3d support. Most of the cheaper projectors, the "bluetooth" ones don't support it. I couldn't understand why they had every other feature, but didn't add 3d in. However, this Viewsonic projector does support 3d and it looks really great. As far as the usual projector stuff, this projector has decent brightness -- it looks ok even in a room that isn't pitch dark (we had a few lamps on). It looks nice in a dark room. If you're looking for a super bright picture in a bright room, you might want to consider a larger, more expensive projector. As far as 3d, to produce a 3d image you need three things. A projector (like this one) that supports 3d and projects the 3d image, you need a player that can play 3d disks (I bought an LG Bluray player that plays 3d disks) and you need 3d glasses. For glasses, I've seen a few people say you need to buy the Viewsonic PG-something glasses. Well, those glasses don't appear to be made anymore. However, don't worry, you just need to buy any regular old active shutter glasses that are for DLP projectors. Buy one of the brands that say they support all kinds of DLP projectors--this Viewsonic won't be in their supported list, but they will work with this projector. I had a little difficulty with the glasses, probably because I was turning them on incorrectly. But, if you mess with them, you'll get it. Also, another nice thing about this little projector is the sound. Wow! Its very impressive for such a little box. Its good enough to use to watch a movie, unless you're really after that thunderous sound of a movie theater, then you could explore the bluetooth option and connect a bluetooth speaker to this projector. There's a few things I don't like. First, if you use the built in arm as a base, on mine at least, the display is crooked. Also, the projector is so light that the HDMI cable will move it. So, to get the projector properly placed, you need to mess with the HDMI cable or even tape the cable down to the table where your projector is. I mostly solved the problem by attaching a tripod to the projector -- your tripod will just screw into the bottom of the projector. A pretty cool feature. It does have the ability to play movies from micro SD cards and external hard drives. I haven't messed with any of those. Its also connects to WiFi--that went very smoothly for me. That's nice in case there are any firmware updates, you can get them instantly over WiFi. So, overall, this is a really great budget projector with alot of features. One of its biggest strengths is that it supports 3d--very, very rare in this price range.

Love the sleek look/design and great picture quality!
VIEWSONIC M2 MODEL ( NOT THE M1) UPDATE JUNE 29th, 2020 So now we have tried the projector several times. 1. Photos: I Included one at sunset to show that image is amazing with the sun not fully gone. A second photo to show our set up using apple TV. The video clip shows movie in darkness, with all my accent cafe light and tree spot lighting on behind us and did not effect the image. This was good so you have some light to walk around the yard and be able to see and not trip. 2. Speaker: YES, YES, YES YES... it connects to SONOS!!!!!! We were able to finally get it connected vie APPLE TV. We bought the new Sono speaker that has been sold out and it has AMAZING sound.... SO HAPPY!!!! 3. Customer phone service: Positive, they pick up phone calls fast and try to help. Negative, they really cannot help you trouble shoot anything and are not familiar with products enough to help. To their defense this is during Covid, when company's may not have normal staff working. 4. The 2.5 hours of cordless viewing...is for the other model, NOT the M2. Because the listing has many models I miss read. Bummed out, but was not a deal breaker as I found that I can use the C PORT to plug projector into a POWER BANK ( has to be Min 45W or the port will not work). ORIGINAL REVIEW: We LOVE IT! I spent hours researching and made a list for OUTDOOR movie theater. There were a lot of reviews online for the M1 but that model is so different that M2. This is why I had to leave a review as there are not that many and based on customer purchase videos found online it looks like it has been more popular outside if USA. I took that as a good sign as I worked for a European company for 20yrs and was amazed how in last 10 years they seem to be more advance / tech savvy customers. 1. Picture amazing, I was worried because a lot of web site say for outdoors you need min 2,200 Lumens. 2. Sound, not bad. Will be connecting speaker via cable, until we can research more the Bluetooth situation. From all the research I know a lot of projectors are struggling with offering Bluetooth feature. I hope we can figure out how to connect to SONOS! 3. WIFI all good, we used apple TV with this projector. 4. Looks AMAZING, I really did not want to get a big and clunky looking projector. I had back up Epson and BenQ in this price range in case this one did not work. This one is slick and looks so good with out home decor. I was worried that at 100" + size image would loose quality, but did not. Looks great. 5. The 2.5 hours of cordless viewing was key. Have not tried this out, but this is another reason I chose this. I want to be able to move it around the house if needed and especially for CAMPING or California blackouts were are stuck with not electricity. I will add photos as soon as my projector screen is up end of this month. PS. There is one consumer video online, were he plugs the Viewsonic WIFI stick to the back, That is possible, but get in the way of adjusting projector. Thanks to watching another video in a language I do not speak ( picture speaks a thousand words) I say they hooked it right in the same place compartment it comes in. The instructions book makes it a bit confusing. PSS. I wish they did not clump all these Viewsonic product in one Amazon listing, as I had to go through all 30 pages to find the 3 reviews on this model.

A mini projector that’s actually good
First and foremost I totally missed that this was battery powered - awesome! The speaker is surprisingly good. The quality is good but gets pixelated at bigger sizes. It’s the blocky sort of pixelation, not fuzzy, and I actually prefer that. The good news is it can get a reasonably large image with ok brightness and good medium throw distance - you don’t need to move 15’ away to fill a wall. This means short distances will be all the more bright and saturated. Ample features and I/O makes this a great little projector for the price. Brightness is just ok, but it’s so so tiny and can run off battery power. The integrated stand is super functional and rotates away in such a way to protect the lens during storage and transport. This is truly a portable device. It’s sturdy and built well. Lastly it’s not bad to look at. Sometimes I want to watch TV in our bedroom but absolutely refuse to have a TV dominate a place of rest and relaxation. You can keep this thing on the side table, pop it open, AirPlay directly to it and call it a night.

Detailed list of pros and cons from my perspective.
Summary: it’s expensive, but you get some amazing tech that reminds me of those old Apple days. You get what you pay for and then some for sure! Absolutely love this projector!!!! Let me first start by saying I love piko projectors and have purchased several over the years. The technology has constantly surprised me since the day I first got one. When I found the view sonic m1 projector (older model) a few years back I instantly fell in love. However it was lacking in picture quality and brightness. The focus wheel would get loose over time and my remote snapped from repetitive use due to its thin frame. Here’s a simplified list of my thoughts on this projector. Pros: • True 1920 x 1080p resolution. It’s so clear it almost feels like 4K due to the lack of a pixel border. • Bright 1200 lumens is enough to cast clearly in a dark room with indirect sunlight. At nighttime the image is so bright, the screen glows the surrounding walls as a normal monitor or tv would. • The speakers are good, but of course they are not studio grade. The base is non existent but it can get loud with out distorting. I’d say they are better then a iPhone but not as good as a Bose speaker. • noise is perfect. The unit is so quiet and I mean quiet. It virtually is silent compared to my laptop or a console. • the menus are well designed and navigation is a treat. • the auto focus feature is perfect. The remote also has a refocus button. • key store adjust is also great. It had horizontal and vertical adjustment. You can also edit the four corners of the screen to stretch it perfectly, but keep in mind this will cause a small time delay as the projector processes and distorts the image. • the remote is small but dense and feels very high quality. The buttons are clicky not mushy and don’t have a rubber Finish but a matte finish • Connecting to WiFi allows you to use your phone to broadcast. I found this a useful feature but I already have a chrome cast and a Apple TV. I did not notice that much lag. • sturdy build quality and stand to prop it up correctly at any angle. Cons: Honestly there are not many. • The price. At 700$ (tax) it’s a pritty big pill to swallow at first. However you fully get what you pay for. • Video ghosting. It’s not a huge issue but while playing certain games I noticed a small blur outline around moving objects. It’s hardly noticeable in movies but in video games it’s detectable but not distracting. • key stone correction ( corner distorting) causes the projector to lag at 0.1 seconds or so. It’s to a point where you can notice it while gaming. This is a easy fix luckily, just don’t use the setting to stretch the edges. • no portable battery. Unlike most piko projectors this model does not have a battery. It makes sense because it’s a new breed of piko projectors that is more designed for a home theater. I’ve read it can be powered by a backup battery but I haven’t verified that personally. • micro sd card slot can’t read 64 gb cards or higher • the onboard media center software is basically bootleg Asian bloatware. It’s not a showcases feature but it’s worth noting. Final thoughts. For the price I can’t imagine a better projector. For my room my projector has become a daily use item. If your in the market for a projector like the m1 projector but want quality over mobility and afford it, be sure to pick this up! There are many many bad projectors out there that lie about the specks or sacrifice quality. Hope this review helped!! 👌🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻🤘🏻

Outdated tech & poor performance
Pros: compact, portable, very bright projection, modest battery life, simple controls & interface. Cons: weak volume, terrible image quality, sd/usb is overly restricted by use of exfat with 32gb limits, carry/dust bag neglects remote & cables, access panel cover always seems in the way, cannot get screen mirroring to work at all. I really want to like this little projector, but each time I've turned it on over the past few weeks has become more and more disappointing. User interface is simple and straightforward, and remote isn't riddled with unnecessary controls. Up until this point i still liked this gadget. Despite fully adjusting focus ring at numerous protection distances i was barely able to get the menu screen texts legible, trying to read titles of movies i had saved on a thumb drive was like a visit with the optometrist and having ones eyes dilated. The only thing I've found that this projector works well for are music visualization apps like geiss in winamp (plenty of examples on that tube site). So, great for a garage rave i suppose. The Harmon Kardon speakers sound crisp and clear, but are sorely lacking in volume. How quiet are they? I live in a lakefront about halfway between anchorage and Denali, the extent of noise pollution here are birds & the occasional bush plane, with highway and train tracks roughly a mile away. So it's pretty quiet. Yesterday i had this thing cracked to full blast, all windows and doors closed (24hr daylight, only way to get dark). Sitting just arms- length away and conversations in a movie were inaudible. So bad i gave up on the movie and went to help someone work on their truck *without an offer of beer!* Offering usb/sd connections then restricting them with 32gb capacity & exfat formatting feels rude. I specifically chose this projector because it has those slots: the only options for internet here are overpriced cellular or satellite, so streaming isn't really a great option. Exfat restricts file size to under 4gb, making countless media formats incompatible. Even my phone from a decade ago could handle bigger sd cards, catch up ffs. And onto the subject of phones: i tried mirroring from several devices, including Samsung (s22, s20fe, couple tablets), Kyocera, & Toshiba. None recognized the projector, nor vice versa. When tethered via usb-c to hdmi cable i could use the newer Samsung devices as a touch mouse to control the projector but that was the extent of their relationship. Overall: you can get better from a raspberry pi, generic toy projector, and small speaker for under half the cost of this.

Affordable, good portable projector, but Screen Mirroring / Streaming doesn't work
Summary: Purchased Viewsonic M1+ Gen2 (late Nov 2020). Tested over 20 hours and despite major flaws with the screen mirror / streaming feature, the projector still is a keeper... since streaming is not a show-stopper for me. NOTE: The "Gen 2" version has new/unique Users Manual from the regular M1+ (Gen 1); download from Viewsonic USA site, very well written. PROS: 1. Setup was easy.. Language/region/time, WiFi network, Bluetooth (optional), etc. 2. The Harmon Kardon Speakers are good (2 speakers x 2 Watts/speaker - solid sound in 20x15 ft room. 3. Bluetooth setup to external speakers to boost sound... really makes a world of difference in larger rooms. 4. All video inputs worked fine from iPad/iPhone/Win10 PC (did not test Android devices or Mac OS PCs) -- USB-C -- excellent -- HDMI - excellent (use top notch cables) -- USB - acceptable; some weird delays during fast action scenes -- SD Card - no issues, except challenging to eject card from slot 5. Battery lasted surprising long... about 4.5 hours with LED lamp brightness turned up to Maximum 6. All OSD menus were easy to use and there are many features / defaults that can be tweaked. 7. Overall, nicely built and footprint and stand worked fine. For the price (about $270) it is a good investment. CONS: 1. The camera thread mount option doesn't work... the threading in the projector is too shallow to take a solid mount on a tripod or other standard mount. This really needs to be fixed; non-standard thread depth. 2. Aptoide TV is poorly implemented... a very limited number of apps and difficult to use interface. The UI is even more challenging when only using the supplied Viewsonic remote. You really need a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to navigate (note: I didn't try this, but it should work). + I downloaded and tested - NetFlix, Amazon Prime, BBC News, TED Talks, Smart YouTube TV, and Chrome Web browser. With the exception of Amazon Prime -- all the apps worked fine. + Amazon Prime didn't work because the Viewsonic Remote does not play well with Amazon's Onetime Password pop-up screen. A BT keyboard/mouse would likely resolve this. 3. The BIGGEST disappointment -- cited by other Amazon Customers -- is that Screen Mirroring/Streaming doesn't work... + The projector uses the iMirror (Android) app to handle Screen Mirroring with Apple iOS, Android and Mac and Win10 PCs. The app is not ready for prime time... especially with the devices I tested. + Using iOS 14.3 devices (iPhones/iPad -- nothing streamed, except for YouTube. + I tested NetFlix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, PBS Video and even Tivo Bolt... stream either refused to setup or the project froze/locked up. + Using Win10 PC -- nothing streamed via Chrome or FireFox. ViewSonic really needs to fix this Streaming issue, since it is one of the unique features of this new generation of portable LED projects w/ built-in speakers/WiFi/Bluetooth (all in one). Not having streaming resulted in a possible "5 Star" review going down to "3 Stars". I am hoping that the iMirror app or a new app will be introduced to fix this problem. Bottom Line: For the price, portability and other wired connections and SD/USB storage this device is worth owning. If you absolutely cannot live without streaming... then hold off until the streaming issue is fixed. I'm rolling the dice that ViewSonic will listen and respond to the view of the customer... and assign a team to immediately fix the streaming issue

Great Projector!
UPDATE: New firmware update FIXED THE PERMANENT MOTION SMOOTHING!!!! I have adjusted my rating to 5 stars. Viewsonic actually listened to its customers (I was not the only one complaining). I love this little guy. So versatile, great quality image. But the M2 employs permanent frame interpolation that you CANNOT turn off. If you don't know what that means, basically it takes the image and digitally fills in the detail between frames rendering a disorienting hyper-sharpness to the image. It makes all your favorite movies look like cheap soap operas. Most TVs come with this, but you can turn it off in settings. The M2 does not allow you to turn it off. And it ruins every film you try to watch. There is a hack. If you use 4-corner keystone correction it disables frame interpolation. Which is a bug I hope they DON'T fix. But unfortunately, it also creates a slight lag so the audio will be 2 or 3 frames out of sync. Honestly, I'd rather watch a film out of sync than ruined by motion smoothing. I pray they add the ability to turn it off in future firmware updates. Please Viewsonic, hear my cry!

Easy to use, loud speaker, good picture quality
Just bought this and have used a few times inside and outside. Overall very easy to use. We have plugged into our Wi-Fi BlueRay player to stream from Amazon and watch DVD/Blueray disks. Have not tried with connecting with the phone or tablet to stream yet. Inside works great, super easy to set up and picture is good. It is little off kilter when not facing directly in front of the surface we projected onto, but easily fixed with a folded paper under one side. Outside worked great. We projected onto a drop cloth on the side of the house. We had 2 families in the back of their cars/vans watching from the street (social distancing) from 20 ft away and sound was loud enough to hear everything. So far very happy with the purchase. I read so many reviews and finally found this one that checked the boxes for input devices, sound and picture quality. Besides being portable and small.

Great product for camping
I use this both in and outside of my campervan. Inside, I use a simple blinder as screen, and outside I simply use the van as it's white. Perfect companion for my weekend trips.
