My Bees Prefer Sugar Water Alone over HBH
I let the honey bees tell me what they prefer and it's not Honey B Healthy unfortunately. Here is the test I did: Mixed four quarts of 2-1 two parts sugar to one part filtered water. In two of the four 1 qt drinkers/feeders, I amended 1 tsp of shaken/mixed Honey Bee Healthy Started the observed feeding comparison at noon on 10/27/2017 Drinkers with sugar water only, were staggered in between the sugar water with Honey B Healthy stirred in. The honey bees immediately found the drinkes and focused 10-1 on the 2-1 Sugar water mix and showed comparatively little interest in the Honey B Healthy drinkers. All four were in the same location and with the same exposure. 62 deg. Fahrenheit. Bottom line, given options, the honey bees speak for themselves and they do not select Honey B Healthy mixtures when other options are available. As for causing a faster buildup, or improved resistance to disease, I could find not one single study that demonstrated those results. Scientific studies are necessary in order to prove a measurable health benefit. One potential side effect is that if you use this to feed your bees during times of need, it does make the sugar water smell and that smell just may in some cases cause foragers to raid the hives where Honey B Healthy has been added or brought in by the honey bees. So that's actually a "potential" drawback. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this product as absolutely having a benefit to the honey bees beyond their normal resources. Maybe your bees will find this collection of "essential oils" appetizing. Mine didn't.
