Music Theory for Electronic Music Producers: The producer's guide to harmony, chord progressions, and song structure in the MIDI grid. [Allen PhD, Dr. J. Anthony] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Music Theory for Electronic Music Producers: The producer's guide to harmony, chord progressions, and song structure in the MIDI grid. Review: Great music theory book for non-music people - I've never done anything with music in my life (other than listening to it) and just started working on learning to DJ, which has led me to wanting to remix and mashup edm songs. This book is perfect and explains it well for non-musicians. The only thing I don't like is in my edition, the screen capture of the ableton stuff is in grey tones, but the book mentions "note the orange square" but I was able to figure it out. I recommend this book Review: Essential - As an electronic music production hobbyist and prior high school musician I had a low level concept of music theory. Ive purchased several other music theory books to up my knowledge but this one clicks the best. Seeing the theory displayed in a DAW piano roll vs treble/bass clef helps me retain the concepts so much better. Dr. Allen’s teaching style is excellent in helping to understand & retain the concepts.

Good book
I didn’t read half of it but learned so much and it changed how i produced. Great book but there’s way too many typos and the author’s music is kinda boring but he knows wtf he’s talkin about

unexpected gem
I was expecting a fairly dry set of rules and tips, and instead found a book that actually helped me to understand music theory better than any teacher I’ve yet had. Great use of examples to drive home the concepts.

I like the style and the content but unfortunately it is not colorful and in the book it says, those are red or blue, you cannot see the colors of the arrows where the text is referring to. I then expected a free pdf version to check it but the author has a website where you have to become a monthly or yearly member to get the pdf.

Best book ever to get a basic yet essential understanding of music theory in the context of electronic music production in a matter of days. Well written!
