Rating: 8/10 – Good for shine and finishing, not for heavy restoration.
Product Review: Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish (Gloss Enhancer) I used Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish to improve the look of my car’s paint and headlights, and overall it does a solid job. It’s easy to apply and doesn’t take much effort to work into the surface. After buffing it off, I noticed a nice deeper shine and a smoother, more reflective finish. It works best as a finishing step before waxing, not as a heavy correction product. It won’t remove deep scratches, but it does a great job at bringing out gloss and improving the overall look of the paint. For headlights, it can help make them look clearer and more polished, but for heavy yellowing you’ll still need a proper compound first. Overall, it’s a reliable product for adding that clean, glossy finish if you’re detailing your car properly.

Brings Old Paint Back to Life with a Deep Mirror Shine
Brings Old Paint Back to Life with a Deep Mirror Shine Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish is one of those car care products that actually earns its name. I used it after a full wash and clay bar treatment on a 12-year-old sedan that hadn’t seen a proper polish in years—and the results were remarkable. The paint went from flat and tired to glossy and rich, with that “wet look” depth that’s usually only seen on freshly detailed show cars. Application is straightforward: a small amount on a foam pad, work it in evenly, then buff off with a clean microfiber towel before it dries. It goes on smoothly and wipes off easier if you do smaller sections at a time. For best results, I paired it with Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound first to remove deeper oxidation and swirl marks, then followed with this polish to refine the finish before waxing. Even on dark paint, the reflections looked dramatically sharper and clearer afterward. What stands out is how forgiving it is—gentle enough for beginners yet effective enough for enthusiasts. It’s safe on clear coats, doesn’t stain trim, and leaves the surface prepped perfectly for wax or sealant. Used by hand, it takes a bit of elbow grease; with a dual-action polisher, it’s a breeze and produces a truly professional finish. Bottom line: an outstanding finishing polish that restores depth and gloss to aging paint and preps perfectly for wax. For under ten dollars, this is one of the best DIY detailing upgrades you can make—turns dull paint into a head-turner with minimal effort.

One of the best worry-free and effective polishes for beginner to pro
There are a million detailing products out there, and Ultimate Polish is one that I keep coming back to. If you're a do-it-yourself / hobby / weekend detailer, this is one of the best finishing polishes. It won't correct deep scratches, but that's not what it's meant for. A finishing polish is meant to add that final clarity, depth of color, and gloss for paint that is already in decent or good condition. Especially if you have dark colored paint, this step is necessary for that perfect finish. If you do have deeper scratches / defects / oxidation, you will need to use a compound first, such as Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish are the "consumer" versions of their M105 and M205 products. The key difference is that the consumer versions are slightly less aggressive (meaning that they take off less clear coat) and have a longer working time (meaning if you polish too long or with too little product you're at less risk for damaging the paint). For most of us who aren't preparing show cars and who do not want to risk ruining their paint, the choice is easy. Be sure to pair each with an appropriate pad. Foam pads are easy to work with, but the colors / aggressiveness varies between brands. If you're new, look for a light to medium cut pad for the Compound, and a finishing pad (usually black) for the Polish. Run slower speed and less pressure with the polish - especially on black paint. And if you're new, definitely use a dual action (a.k.a. random orbital) polisher instead of a rotary - less risky and easier to use. Meguiars has a TON of different polishes in their pro line for specific use cases, body shops, etc (such as M200, M205, M210). I've researched the heck out of these but it boils down to the fact that I don't want to buy all of them and fuss with it. I've read that M210 is specific to finicky black paint and works well, but it may interact poorly with trim pieces and other non-paint materials (plus it's sold in a big/expensive bottle). One thing I like about Ultimate Polish is how it barely leaves residue on trim so I don't waste time with painter's tape. Basically - if you want to get into polishing but are overwhelmed by all of the options and information - Ultimate Polish is arguably your best place to start. And if you're like me - you just keep using it.

Did wonders on 16 year old paint
I own an older car that is 16 years old. I’ve never polished it or done any paint correction, it’s just original paint that’s been through the car wash. Sometimes I splurge and get the extra wax service afterwards. I decided to compound this with Meguiars Ultimate Compound and then use Meguiars Ultimate Polish afterwards. It turned out to be a great two hit combo! The compound really smoothed out the terrible swirls, and the polish gave it a near perfect gloss shine! It’s still a 16 year old car with a lot of defects, but it really added new life to the paint. I would use this more often from now own. For around $10, it is a steal.

Great product, just not the easiest to use.
I am becoming a care care enthusiast and quickly amassing a collection of car care products as the local carwash has been abusing my cars and wallet for far too long. After watching tons of YouTube videos about detailing and deciding that I need to both polish and wax my cars, I went with the brand that I have known forever, Meguire's. My first try was on a 2009 Corolla that had never been polished. I did it by hand and it took forever, plus the polish would dry on the car as I worked it in and was difficult to buff off. But in the end after plenty of elbow grease, the car was beautiful. My second attempt was on a 2009 F150. I did smaller areas and worked in the product harder, and I had less to try to buff off, took some work as I did it by hand, but again the results were beautiful. My third try was on a 2015 Explorer, and I had bought the Meguire's DA power system, as doing it by hand is too much work. The system made all the difference, I had barely any that did not work in, and again the results were beautiful. And the DA system took hours out of my work. This product is legit, gives great results, but I had to take away a star because it is hard to use. I'm sure it will get easier with use, but you only polish 1-2 times a year and it is a pain. I have heard that other products from companies like Chemical Guys goes one better, but you will pay a premium for the professional detailing products.

Showroom results at a bargain price.
I’ve always owned black vehicles and have always struggled to keep swirl marks from showing. Yes, there are high end polishes that will solve the problem but I got tried of spending the money. Read about Meguair’s Ultimate polish and for the low cost, figured I give it a try. Simple put “WOW”. Little effort - easy application and easy wipe off and the swirls are gone and the shine is unbelievable. The key is …. Quick wipe on and a quick wipe off while still damp. Don’t let it dry before it will become stubborn to remove and leave swirl applicator marks all over your vehicle. I know because I failed to read the directions, applied to the entire vehicle and took hours to remove the caked on wax, which left swirl application streaks everywhere. Had to apply another coat in small sections and removed immediately which left a brilliant shine. Works best with a wax application afterwards. Given the low cost of this polish and the amazing results, buying this is a no brainer. Just ordered 2 more bottles.

leaves the finish smooth as glass
I have a 2007 Audi that needed a little love, paint is in great shape but definitely not like new (minor scratches).I did everything by hand on a cloudy cool day using foam applicator pads and microfiber towels. First, I washed the car by hand using Meguiar's car wash detergent (Deep Crystal car wash). Then, I used Mother's clay kit; it was amazing, everything they said and more. Little specs of dirt would build on the clay every section (about one door panel at a time). Post-clay, the car was absolutely smooth and all bug bits and other crud (including tiny loose paint bits or road tar, I couldnt tell since the car is black) were gone. Next, I used this Meguiar's Ultimate Polish. It was absolutely beautiful. I applied it w a Meguiar's foam pad applicator and followed the instructions not allowing it to dry. It was a perfect mirror surface w a totally smooth squeaky clean feel. It got rid of swirls and minor scratches just like the bottle says. If it contained wax, I would have been finished but I followed w wax to protect all of that hard work I had done to get that surface looking like a mirror. The car looked incredible. One spot needed Ultimate Compound to remove a smudge where something (grocery cart?) had left a deposit on the car. I finished up w Meguiar's Nxt gen tech 2 wax. I think any wax would have done a great job on such a great surface, but I picked this because Consumer Reports gives it top ranking for liquid waxes. The car now looks incredible, better than the day we bought it. On a sad note, a giant seagull dropped a gift on the hood of our 2013 audi. Neither Meguiar's Ultimate Compound or the Polish have been able to completely remove the uric acid etching on the clear coat. They have helped, and the outline of the poop is now only visible to me, but it's there. At least they did no harm to the paint, which sometimes is the most important thing. I think if I keep using the Polish on the spot every time I wax (2-3 times a year), the bird poop etching will disappear. Otherwise, I may have to have it professionally detailed. For now, I can live with it as winter nears. Perfect shiny finishes are not all that important during the New England winter. Bottom line, I can recommend Meguiar's Ultimate Polish, Compound and Nxt gen wax. And I believe the clay treatment was crucial to the great end result. If you're obsessive about your car, this combo will probably meet your needs. Good luck.
