Othello (Folger Shakespeare Library) Review: Arrived in perfect shape - Larger print and newer edition than I had expected Review: Good book but damaged as new - Love this book, love the play content. Disappointed it is labeled as new but had tear on cover and back scratched up. Will work well for what's needed but wish it wasn't slightly damaged.

Disappointed
I'm taking a course on Othello at Rutgers University. I purchased this edition to read. I'm so disappointed because the construction of the book is so poor. It's falling apart! The glued binding constantly cracks & pages loosen and fall out no matter how gentle I am while handling it.

Great book, water-based pen ink can bleed through the paper big-time. Thought it was the bigger copy, guess I was wrong.

Excellent Edition of Othello
This review is divided into to two parts. The first part is on this particular edition (Updated Folger Shakespeare Library) and second is on the play itself. Edition Review: Overall the Updated Folger Shakespeare Library edition was very well done - I would give it 5 stars. Copious introductory material and end information about the play itself, giving a number of viewpoints of Shakespearean experts. While the actual text of the play is in the old English language, the use of the facing pages to explain and clarify the meaning of the text is superb. Othello Review: I don't believe this among the best of Shakespeare's tragedies. I would give the story 3 stars. While the story is very clear about Iago's motives and methods, the story is leaves out what is at the core of his motivation which would have been good to know in order to have the right context for the story. As it stands, we are left to guess, which, I suppose, is great fodder for thousands of instructors, as it provides a ready-made topic for a paper.
