WHITIN Men's Minimalist Trail Runner W30

As comfortable as my old Altra Lone Peaks, one-fourth the price, as well as hopefully an unchanging model for years to come. Replaced my old (depleted) stock of New Balance Minimus 10v1 — the shoes aren't directly comparable, but as someone with a strong preference for those now-discontinued runners, these sufficed. Ran a half-marathon on a forest trail with no training in months and no break-in time for the shoes. No blisters. Lack of cushioning means the rocks and roots are noticeable, but I prefer that (teaches mindfulness about where to land the foot). Have since also used for yard work, basketball, walks, and everyday wear. Not exceedingly stylish, but neither am I. Too soon to speak to durability, but the price point and performance have me unworried as long as I can get six months of heavy use on asphalt, concrete, dirt, and grass. The velcro is nice, especially for running. Easier to get a perfect fit without too much pressure on the top bones of my feet. Will probably stockpile half a dozen pairs once this pair proves to last six months at my activity level and environment. Update six months in: Have held up ~250 miles trail running; uncounted miles on asphalt and grass; heavy sprinting, jumping, cutting on concrete while playing basketball; and weightlifting. Never had any issues, even though the size is slightly bigger than I may need — no sliding inside, yet also very low pressure applied to top of foot. No odor, but I wear an athletic wool blend sock which I credit for that. Beginning to see wear on the sole under the heel, as I do with all my minimalist shoes. Overall I'd say this sole has exceeded my expectations for durability given my time and motions on concrete and asphalt. Will purchase more. Hope build quality is consistent. Update at 9 months: Ordering a second pair. Will update later as to whether build is similar between what should be identical items. If consistent, I'll probably buy a half-dozen because this shoe meets my expectations for a good shoe at an excellent price. Update at 16 months: Insoles of first pair degraded and left a yellow gunk that attached all-too-readily to my polyester-wool socks. Whitin sells replacement insoles but these are not the same type or feel as the originals. Have not found a good insole replacement to replicate exact feel. External sole on first pair is fine after much use. Second pair was approximately of the same build and quality of first pair. Lately have used second pair at 25% incline, 2-3mph on treadmill, or 15% incline up to 5mph. That's a new use case, just as serviceable. The top bones of my feet remain finicky with minimal pressure, so the velcro is still much appreciated to reduce pressure. If I can find a suitable insole replacement (many fine brands, styles exist; but I want the precise match), then I will buy a third pair or more.

If you have white feet, these are amazing shoes at least for me it fit perfect they’re flexible. I’ve tried different brands and this one is one of my favorites. I had a good stability with them on and flexibility and they were comfortable on the top of my feet, which is a big plus. I have been dealing with a long term lower back/hip problem. I recently started seeing a sports Chiropractor / Personal Trainer. As he was doing his preliminary evaluation of me he noticed my ankles and feet were very stiff, also my toes were crunched together. He explained these parts of my body should be mobile and move when my feet hit the ground. He explained to me, when the feet and ankles don't move as they should it can cause other parts of the body that should be immobile to try to move in a way that they should not....such as the SI joint that connects my hip to my sacrum. He explained that shoes with higher lift, too much support or padding actually prevent the foot and ankle from moving like they were intended too. He also said a shoe with tight toe box that squeezes your toes together also keep your foot from flexing the way it should. I had actually heard this before. Several years back I bought some Vibram Five Fingers barefoot shoes to try to get a more natural foot and ankle motion. If you have not seen these shoes, they look almost like a neoprene sock with a thin Vibram sole. I really liked wearing them. Because there is no cushion at all they forces your feet, ankles and toes to flex and move to absorb shock and adjust to the ground under your feet. Because they are thinner you tend not to slam your feet into the ground when walking or running. Anyway....I went home and busted out the old Five Fingers. After doing this I was reminded of their shortcomings. The first thing was the model I have has very thin soles.....truly barefoot in feel. You can walk on the sidewalk or street after you learn not to slam your foot down like in regular shoes, which btw is the whole point of wearing them. What you can't do is walk on things like the crushed rock paths we have around my house. The soles are too thin. The second thing is you sort of get tired with folks asking about your crazy shoes. Essentially I wore them to the gym and on walks. My Chiro recommended Altra wide toe box / zero lift (same height at heel and ball of foot) shoes, which go for $140 or so. I decided I would rather find a cheaper experimental pair....enter the WHITIN minimalist wide toe box trail runner. The WHITINs are sort of a wannabe barefoot shoe. In fact, you can pull the thin heel pad out if you want nothing between you foot and the ground but the sole. They are made of a stretchy material and mimic the Five Fingers the way they hug your foot. The sole itself is thicker than the Five Fingers. I am able to walk crushed rock trails with no issues. As I mentioned previously, the Five Fingers look sort of weird. The WHITINs look closer to a regular shoe. I can wear them almost anywhere. These shoes really do what I need them to do. The only reason I dropped a star is the closure system on the shoe. The shoe has stretchy cord laces you tighten then secure with a little plastic push button buckle and then at the top they have a Velcro strap. To me it is a bit of overkill. I think if the laces went to the top they would have done the job. If they broke they would be easy enough to replace. The Velcro on the other hand....when it is done it is done....time to throw out the shoes. That said, I can by three pairs of these for the price of a pair of Altras or Five Fingers. With that in mind, I wholeheartedly recommend these WHITIN minimalist wide toe box shoes if you want your feet and ankles to move like God intended them to. Sizing is spot on. I wear 9.5 in my New Balance Trail Runners and the 9.% WHITINs fit perfectly.

Let me start by saying that, in my opinion, these shoes do not look any better in person. The "knobs" on the toes, the shiny nubs on the super-wide toe box, and the way too long, but not trimmable laces all contribute to an awkward look. Nonetheless, I am not into regular shoelaces and usually replace them with lock laces, so I appreciate that I did not have to replace these laces, and the Velcro straps do make for easy on and off. In terms of comfort, I am finding these shoes to be addictively comfortable. I have been using them at the gym for inclined treadmill walks and especially for leg days. I am a solid size 11 in almost all shoes, with a medium-to-slightly wide foot. These shoes are very comfortable, and the wide toe box makes my 11W NB Minimus TR V2 shoes feel a bit narrow. Not sure how they will hold up over the long term, but for $40, they're practically free. UPDATE (9June 2026): It's only been a month, but I just returned from a weekend in Harper's Ferry, WV. The weekend included lots of walking up and down hills, hiking on trails, and a 3-hour zipline canopy tour. These Whitins were the only shoes I brought with me, and they were awesome. I was shocked by how good they felt, and by how good my feet and legs felt when the weekend was over. I am hooked; in fact, I already bought another pair of barefoot Whitins (pictured in black, similar but not as "stylie").

I'm a woman with exactly a 10" foot, and the 42 fits me perfectly. I have been wearing these shoes for a year now, and they are still in fantastic condition. No holes, no rips. And trust me, I give shoes a run for their life. I've hiked through the woods on rough terrain and walked concrete and gravel paths for at least 200 miles in these shoes. The sole is still intact; the Velcro hasn't lost a bit of its grab. They're also very breathable, preventing my feet from sweating. I love the grip they give when I'm climbing steep inclines and appreciate that the tread curves up the toes because it has protected them from being stubbed on numerous occasions. Just recently, I was crossing a dried up creek, and thought a log was a safe stepping stone. The log sank into the last of the creek bed water, dunking my entire shoe. I thought my socks were a goner, but I surprisingly didn't feel a drop of wetness. I completed my hike and when I arrived home and took off my shoe, it was completely dry, and so was my sock. I was shocked! That's not to say that these are waterproof, though. I have worn them in the rain, and it made my socks damp. Prolonged water exposure will get through, but apparently a quick submersion is easy work for these shoes. I did mention that I wear socks with these. I go back and forth between wearing them barefoot or while wearing toe socks. If I'm running to the store, I'll simply slip them on, but if I'm hiking, the socks are going on. That's why I prefer size 42. It gives me a small amount of space between the tops of my toes and the end of the shoe so my feet don't rub and cause blisters. I have very sensitive skin and can easily rub blisters but have not experienced that at all with these shoes -- that's why the right size and fit matters. I originally bought a size 41 but gave that one to my son. Even though it fit me perfectly... it was too perfect and I felt shifting in areas that may cause uncomfortable rubbing. So if you put yours on and it hugs your toes too much, size up. Your toes will thank you. Overall, I love these barefoot shoes, and when I eventually wear them out, I'll include it in this review. They better never stop making these because I will be coming back for more!

Trucker review Waited a few days to write this. First I got these because I wear crocks while I work. And it’s becoming increasingly unpopular to wear flip flops and crocks when your truck because it’s associated with the worst drivers out there. So I got this middle ground between my Nike air max and crocks. It’s really does fit in between. A little on the warm side they don’t breathe as well as I hoped. No stinky feet though when you take them off. Great driving shoe , good grip you can feel the pedals. Lots of tractions getting in and out of the truck. It’s dangerous and high. Walking. Is where I have a problem. On cement and asphalt fine. You feel the road beneath you the balls of my feet hurt a little even though I’m just walking 100 feet at a time. On rocks heck no. It hits like you’re barefoot. Watch your step. The insoles are already dirty I shower daily but chose to not wear socks because I was looking for something more slipper like. I’d say medium to medium high quality they slip On easy no need to tie laces the Velcro strap is the only weakness so far comes off as you walk. But you don’t really need it the shoe is like a sock the picture is what happened when you take your foot out. You need to fix them each time. Weeks later update The yellow insoles are filthy they seem to suck dirt in. I wonder if they sell them here. Feet jurt after a while. Imagine parking at a big Walmart go all the way across and back. My feet hurt. Driving small moves super comfortable.

I bought these to replace my old walking shoes that had many miles on them. These are well built, all the stitching is tight and even. I typically wear a size 13 so I ordered a 12.5 (converted) and it fits perfectly. They do have an expanded toe box for comfort and fit better with no socks. In fact these are so comfortable they're like socks with vibrum soles! My feet are protected and feel stable in these. I like the gray with gum sole, they have a slight hipster look while not showing the dust I have to walk through here. They will support my walking activity and I'd even wear them on some easier hikes. I may add my old insoles which have a little more arch support, but so far these are fine and strengthening my feet!

Update 10-2022: I still love these shoes and I wear them everywhere. Reviewers have noted that they are not good in all conditions, and that's true, but what is? You do need to be careful on sharp rocks because the rubber is thin and it isn't super hard to puncture it, plus you do feel every single thing you step on, but your feet will adapt to that over time. We didn't evolve wearing thick-soled heavily cushioned shoes, and our feet don't need them, but they do need time to transition. Similarly with wet surfaces, you may find better grip with footwear designed for that use, but I find these adequate for occasional slippery rock, as long as I'm careful, which tracks with other hiking shoes that I've used. One complaint now that I'm on my 3rd or 4th pair: the uppers are really easily damaged. It's a result of the fabric being very thin, which I get for keeping the weight down. For me this is offset by the fact that they are inexpensive. If I wreck a pair, I keep them around for yard work until totally destroyed. These do not all fit the same. The ones with the velcro over the top are less elastic around the foot, which I prefer. I bought a pair with traditional shoe laces and I find the elastic too tight and annoying versus the more relaxed fit of the velcro + pull string versions. On long walks your feet swell a little and that elastic starts to dig into the skin and reduce blood flow. Won't be another of that variety again. ---original review--- I love these things. I originally came looking for a different product but its reviews were not good. I ended up giving these a try and I am so happy that I did. The WHITIN Trail Runner is exactly what I was looking for; super light, flexible, great ground feel without unnecessary padding, cushioning, or gimmicks. Bonus: reasonably priced. If I had one caution to buyers it would be this: if you are not used to barefoot-like products give yourself some break in time before doing lots of miles. They will change the way you walk if you are coming from a modern hiking shoe or running shoe, and it can result in soreness or even injury if you overdo it.

Pero este modelo tiene mucho espacio y acomoda a pies bastante anchos, ademas tiene muy buena traccion y cojincomodo pero delgado, asi que sirve de buen intermedio cuando se transiciona de zapatos comunes a zapatos "zero drop"
