A 1" pipe or less will fit the center hole. A 1" PVC pipe fits perfectly. If you are wanting to raise the up off the ground use a 1 1/2" diameter PVC Pipe for the pots to rest on. This allows them to rotate too. Thank you very much

The description states that the dimensions are 16"x16"x38" but it's also 18" in diameter. Which is it; 16 or 18?

Is this 5 or 7 tier like the photo.

This photo shows a 7 tier photo, but the nice thing about Mr. stacky is that you can had to the tiers. I purchased 4 tiers and will probably add to the height this spring.

Is this made of ceramic or stone? The description says Mr. Stacky Stone Containers

Sorry that just refers to the color but the stone color is out of stock and Terracotta is currently only available which are shown in the pictures. The are made of food safe polypropylene and are heavy duty.
