Exactly what you need to remove soot from walls and ceilings
This is a product that people need to use to clean soot covered walls and ceilings. This is the only thing that I have used that removes the soot easily and effectively. My gas stove was not installed properly so the air to gas mixture caused soot to spread throughout my home. The cost to have a professional cleaning service come in to clean the soot is very expensive. This is a relatively inexpensive way to remove it yourself, albeit...it requires work depending on how much cleaning you have to do. I found a few dry cleaning sponges in my local area but they are hard to find and are of varying consistencies. Some drier than others and break apart easily. This product is the perfect size/depth and substance. I have a 2500 sq. ft home so in the end, I will need approximately six boxes 18 sponges - that's with a minor layer of soot covering the walls and ceilings. If you have a thick layer of soot, you will need more. Don't try washing the soot off because it will imbed it into the paint. Use a good quality dry sponge like this product and you will get the soot (or any dirt/dust) off quickly and easily.

Did not work on painted wood paneling
Did not work on newly painted wood paneling at all. Barely pulled off any of the soot. Soap and water worked better.

Saved me some time, money, elbow grease
I had a freshly painted white brick fireplace that basically died when we used it without the glass doors. I had soot everywhere. It ran straight up above the fireplace opening and up the brick wall. Yuck. I was sad. I tried detergents, windex, magic eraser, all of that to get it off but it wouldn't work, they just dulled the soot. So I read about this online and got it and it took about 50% of the soot off, along with straight rubbing alcohol. I just kept wiping the grout and brick over and over with this pad (wet) and sprayed on alcohol. Overall, I think I ended up with 75% of the fireplace cleaned off. It still needs repainting to make me happy, but this was acceptable to me as a start. At least it's not as noticeable as it was. The picture shown is AFTER using it. I should have taken a before photo. This is WAY better than before when it was black up to the mantle

For candle soot did not help me. But for the soot that comes up constantly from my oil burner it does a good job. But so does winded an a paper towel . I got hosed on this one for the job I needed it for very expensive

Soot
We often get soot shadows on the walls and ceiling because of the oil heat. I used to paint rooms so often because of this. These dry-cleaning soot erasers are amazing! You just wipe them over the soot, and it comes right off. They are so inexpensive and do a great job!

They work, but could be better
I purchased these sponges to remove soot in our bathroom and on our appliances as our fireplace belched out smoke and soot this winter. The walls, ceiling, and cabinets have semi gloss paint and have been fairly easy to clean with these sponges, but I've still had to use a liquid cleaner after to get off spots and smudges. The sponges work on other surfaces like lamp shades that can't get wet - but they don't work on flat paint - hence the 4 stars.

not worth the money.. doesn’t work on textured walls
kinda worked but not on all surfaces.. worked better on ceiling but not very good on my walls.. i am still going to have to paint it.. only got about 40percent of soot off.

do NOT use magic erasers for soot-- ONLY use these!
I think this is the first amazon review I've ever left. But that's how excited I am about this product! I love Yankee candles and burn them way more than I should. I've been in my current apartment for 7 years and the walls are getting visibly sooty. First I tried magic erasers, but they just drove the stains deeper. Luckily I stopped, did some research, and found these. They are WONDERFUL. One swipe and the soot comes right off. I wish I'd taken the time to find these first, because there are legitimate stains now where I tried to use the magic erasers. If I'd started with these I'd be golden right now.
