Un grande gioco di Party! (A Great Party Game)
This is an awesome game. I played it recently with a group of friends and I knew afterwards that I HAD to have it. It is very reminiscent of a game I used to play back in high school and college with my buddies called MAFIA, except this game uses cards and rules to give the game more of a structure, which I like. The game is an old Western Card game, which strangely, for a reason I have yet to determine, is written in Italian (don't worry, there are also English captions underneath the Italian). It plays best in medium-large groups, ideally 5-7 people, but we've played with groups as large as 12 before. Upon setup, each player is secretly assigned one of 4 roles: the Sheriff, an Outlaw, a Deputy, or a Renegade, and each player's objective in the game depends on the role they have been assigned: - Sheriff is trying to kill the Outlaws and Renegades - The Outlaws are trying to kill the Sheriff - The Deputies are trying to protect the Sheriff - The Renegades are trying to be the last one standing with the Sheriff, and then kill him one vs one. The only person who's role is known is the Sheriff, who reveals it at the beginning of the game. As the game progresses, you try to figure out who is who around you, and use weapons, various ability cards, and other items to try to accomplish your objective. The game ends with either the Sheriff dies, or the Outlaws are all killed. If any of that sounds confusing, don't worry, once you play the game once or twice it becomes second nature. Pros: - Tons of fun. This has become our go-to game over the past month. People will literally text me during the day while I am at work asking when the next time we are going to "BANG" (their words, not mine). - This particular packaging includes A LOT- the original game, the first expansion (High Noon), the second expansion (Dodge City), and the third expansion (A Fistful of Cards). - Comes in a cool metal bullet-shaped case. Cons: - Can be a little complicated for newbies, especially with the expansion packs (you have the option to play without them, however) - Games can take quite a while, depending on the size and experience level of the group. I've had games of 8+ take over 2 hours. However, on the flip side, I've had games end in under 30 minutes. - It is an elimination game, which means that when someone is killed, they have to sit and watch until the game is over (with the exception of a few cards in the expansions which can bring dead players back to life). Can be frustrating for people if you have a large group and they die early in the game as this means they will be sitting and watching for a good 30 minutes or longer. All in all, this is definitely money worth spending. I would definitely recommend this to a friend (and have).

Great Starter Set For Bang!
BANG! Is an Italian game. When you get your game, you'll notice that everything is written in two languages: Italian and English (there are two sets of rules in the respective languages). My friends and I have found this to be quite an addicting game, and has been known to be our game of choice for months on end (some got a little burnt out on it, so we had to switch it up). As someone who speaks a little bit of Italian, I really enjoy having the Italian printed on the cards. I use it as a tiny bit of practice (as well as a tool to annoy my friends from time to time). This is an incredibly fun game that's best played in a larger group, though not necessarily best learned in a large group. There's a lot of information thrown at you the first time you sit down to play, which can be overwhelming to a first-time player. I think that the best approach to teaching a new player is to just play and explain what cards mean as you play. Some things that also make it easier include: (1) playing with the base, instead of some of the extras (like green cards) and (2) playing with role cards face up. If you have a group of people who have played before and have one or two new people, taking a person or two who has played before and pairing them with a new person can sometimes help too (as long as the experienced player isn't doing all of the playing). Despite all of the new stuff to learn, it's a pretty easy game to pick up. Many players feel that the elimination element is the biggest drawback of the game. Included in The Bullet are the High Noon cards, on of which allows eliminated players to come back for one turn. If that's not enough of a solution for you (which is definitely understandable), my friends also found the Death Mesa expansion. If it's something you're interested in, I'd encourage you to look it up... just know that playing with ghost players all the time can/will extend your game play and definitely adds an extra element to the game. As for what's included, at least one other reviewer mentioned the lack of mats in the bullet version. As someone who has played with just the original base game, The Bullet does lack the mats and bullet tokens. However, the mats and tokens don't actually add anything to the game. My friends and I found them to be rather useless and never used them anyway. For what The Bullet offers, you have everything you need (though know that it does not include every expansion available). Additionally, The Bullet will give you 5 ready to play and 2 blank extra cards you wouldn't get through buying the base + high noon, dodge city, and a fistful of cards expansions. It's an excellent starter set for players looking to get into the game. Plus, how can you resist that shiny sheriff badge?!.

Great game for large groups
This game is a blast to play in large groups. The comparison I most hear about for it is to Mafia. The larger the group, the more confusing and fun the game gets. Each player is given a role. You are either the good guys, the bad guys, or the renegade. No one tells anyone else what their role is, except for the Sheriff. The Sheriff shows everyone his card. From there, madness ensues. The bad guys try to kill the Sheriff, the good guys try and kill the bad guys, and the renegade adds to the confusion, by playing either side, or trying to balance the fight. The expansions are decent, and allow more people to play. The base game is for up to 7 players, but the expansion makes it 8. They add more cards and a little more strategy to the game. That being said, I think you will be perfectly happy with the base game. Finding people that understand the rules enough to play the base game alone is hard enough, finding 8 people with a good enough understanding of the rules to add an expansion or two on top can be difficult. Speaking of the rules, they are crazy. The game was originally Italian, and the translation to English was a little rough. Every other game a rule question comes up that isn't covered in the manual. Luckily there is a good community online, and I've found that any time I have a question I can just google it and get the answer. There is a lot of strategy to the game, and especially a lot of cases that a good player can use the rules to their advantage. Overall, this game is a blast and great for any good sized group of people (5+ players). Under 5 people can be a little boring because it only takes a round to figure out who is who. My only gripe with the game is that once you're dead, you're dead. I've killed people on the first turn, and then had the game go on 45 minutes after that. It can get a little boring for the players that die early on. This was fixed in "Samurai Sword", which is basically Bang! but with a Japanese Samurai theme.

Great game for the whole family!
We got this game for my Dad and played with the whole family (4, 7, 40+, 40+, 80+ years old). All enjoyed it, and our 4-year-old won the second game. Other reviews talk about the mechanics of the game, this will focus on other aspects. I've seen complaints that there was not a game board or bullet markers. These items are simply not essential to gameplay. The cards can be arranged quite easily on a table without a board, and the unused character cards double as life point counters. We found the box design quite amusing, though since it is a bullet-shaped metal box my Dad will probably pack it disassembled in checked baggage on his way back home. The game is probably ideal with 5 or more players; I've played it with 6 at parties and that was a blast, but it was still a big hit with just 4 of us playing at home. We have not tried the 3-player variation described in the Dodge City rules (part of this set). 5 is the smallest number of players where the Deputy role is included, which adds yet more confusion to a game where a lot of the fun derives from wondering who is on your side and who is out to get you--as well as the frustration of trying to convince the sheriff that you really *are* the deputy when all the bad guys are also claiming to be the deputy! Our 4-y.o. is almost 5 and an early reader; this was about the earliest she could possibly have played it since many cards require some reading to identify/use. If just children were playing you'd probably want all players to be at least 8 or so. Then again with all the shooting and "beer" cards to regenerate health you might not want this for just children. :-) We played just the basic game with our children; the added complexity of the expansions might be too much for the youngest. If playing with a wide range of ages/ability, the sheriff is probably the simplest role to play and also the easiest to render assistance to, so with a very young player in the mix you might want to make sure that they get that role. The renegade is probably the most challenging role, as the renegade must essentially try to pit the other players against each other as much as possible in order to survive to the end.

Be prepared for the addiction!
My friends and I are completely hooked on this game. It's become a must-do anytime we get together. Essentially, everyone is given a role but no one knows who anyone else is except for the Sheriff, who is exposed at all times. There are Deputies, whose job is to keep the Sheriff alive at all costs, even at the cost of their own lives. The Renegade is looking to kill everyone else first before killing the Sheriff (so they are also interested in keeping the Sheriff alive until the very end). The Outlaws are, of course, trying to kill the Sheriff. Then everyone gets a Character who has a special ability. This particular version of BANG! does not come with the latest expansion pack, Wild West Show, which gives you 8 new Characters but I have played with that expansion before and I think the Characters are ridiculously strong or one-sided. They're almost impossible to kill! Hence, I feel Wild West Show is not necessary. You also don't need to play with A Fistful of Cards or High Noon, although we do like them when we are trying to speed the games up. I like the giant bullet case but the Sheriff badge is very very cheap. It doesn't even have a pin in the back so you can put it on a hat or something (which is what we were planning to do); it has a paper clip that looks very weak. I'm afraid it will come off if we try to clip it to anyone's breast pocket, that's how weak it looks. I took 2 stars off the durability because of the badge alone. Well, plus this is a card game, so they're about as durable as regular cards can get. It's hard to explain the strategy of the game (but trust me, it definitely requires some thinking and planning sometimes!) but try it a few times and you will see how addictive this game is. I think it's best played with 7-8 players but I think the instructions say you can play with 6 (having less might get a little ridiculous). I also can't see how this game can have any educational value. I don't really recommend it for young kids because of the concept that you are killing each other, plus it is a strategy game that can get subtle (or at least, it can if you play with the right people).

Bang!...bang...bang - once you get the hang.
Bang is a role playing game - party card game wrapped together. You'll find an excellent description of how it works in one of the other reviews. The actual rules are not much longer than that review. Having said that, if you buy this game, play it a bit against yourself first to see how it works, and in the first session with a new group, start off with a practice round or two so people can get the drift. Once people see how to shoot and block shots, and see a couple of the event cards (such as a visit to the Saloon or General Store) working, they'll catch on very quickly. I'll compare this game to chess and Uno, both games that many readers will know. Much like Uno, the format of the BANG game consists of the players rotating in turn to draw cards and play cards against other players. The rules are no more complicated than chess - and like chess, the game is a whole lot more complex than the rules. The level of complexity, and therefore the longer-term interest factor, above Uno is that there are numerous characters who have different skills or defenses and it takes a while to take advantage of the various characters and tools; like chess, better play requires thinking ahead a little bit before whipping out the ole six-shooter. However, in chess it is almost impossible for players of unmatched skill to have anything like a fun game; if it to be even at all, the better player is patronizing the weaker player. In BANG, the group dynamic means that an inexperienced player can do perfectly well even if there is an experienced player or two in the group, rather than getting slaughtered early on (see "Warnings" below), and it is quite possible that the group dynamic will lead to an early ganging up on the experienced player for just that reason. What is this group dynamic? The players are divided into teams of Outlaws, Deputies and Renegades (ambitious free-lancers), and a Sheriff. But only the Sheriff's identity is known. The only advantages the Sheriff has are one extra life point (handy when most people are gunning for you) and the fact that the Renegade/s cannot win unless a Renegade and the Sheriff are the last 2 in the contest, so for a while the Renegades are the Sheriff's bodyguards - until they turn on him. Meanwhile the Sheriff's Deputies are trying to eliminate the Renegades and the Outlaws while the Outlaws are trying to eliminate the Sheriff - and the whole time, nobody knows who is really on which team, and there are consequences for mistaken identities. There is no prohibition on talk across the table, and so the deception and role-playing begin, which is the fun part of the game mmore than just the shoot-em-up process. Like many games, there is a process of elimination (see "Warnings" below). Since the game only takes 15-30 minutes once you get the hang of it, this is not such a tragedy. The Internet has several rules variants available (the best BANG site is actually a Czech site) which allow the continued if reduced participation of eliminees, but the game is perfectly watchable and it is still interesting as the players' secret team identities emerge, so you can still kibitz while you refresh your libation. There are also rules for 1-, 2- and 8-player BANG. Pretty much the only way you can buy the game any more is to buy the Bullet (Deluxe) set that includes all current expansions, which makes it rather pricey. But it will last a lot longer and get a lot more use than your average board game. WARNINGS!! If you are one of those sulky hyper-competitive people who cannot stand to lose but cannot figure out how to win, maybe you should avoid BANG (and any other form of social interaction). Well, yes, there is quite a bit of slaughtering. After all, it is a Western-style shoot-em-up, the objective of which can be boiled down to being the last one standing. If you are one of those grim people who is professionally offended by most everything, then you'll be offended by this game too. For those genuinely concerned over the sensibilities of the younger fry, the elimination process is a matter of "losing life points", something that the younger among us are well used to as a result of all those video games in which exactly that happens. Please recall that if they were sent outside to play, which would be much better for them, they would probably play something that included phrases like "Bang! You're dead".

This is a fun game. We get together with our friends once a week to play. The quality of the items are very well made. The game is easy to learn and the scenarios change every time you play.
