If there's a sticker on the ssd (eg. samsung ssds) should it be removed prior to attaching the thermal pad or should the heat sink just be put on top?

The sticker itself should NOT be removed, it has a metal heatsink layer embedded within it, and will form part of any enclosures heatsink. This is why sticker removal invalidates your warranties - it is bonded to the chips on the SSD.

This is for a M.2 NVME SSD it will not work on other types of SSD formats. Check your drive to see if there are any letters with it.

My m.2 m key won’t insert

Without a clear explanation of exactly what you mean...difficult to say. Do you mean your NVME M.2 SSD won't insert into the SSK or something else ? Just follow the instructions precisely and it should work. Unfortunately, with such a vague question, any response will be equally vague and open to wide speculation.

If the full transfer rate is up to 5gbps connected to a usb 3.2 gen 1 & i put a samsung 980 nvme ssd in it, shouldn't it achieve the 980's 3000 mb/s?
