Not a tornado, but exactly what it says it is!
I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting here, but for this price, I didn't set my expectations too high, and this little champ wound up exceeding those expectations, so it merits five stars, for being just what it says, and even a bit more! I didn't expect a strong wind -- it doesn't provide one. I didn't expect the flexible stem to be too great -- it isn't. I DID expect it to be quiet, and it absolutely IS. In fact, it's noiseless, completely, so it exceeded my expectations there! I DID expect it to work on any power source, namely portable battery/charging devices that can charge USB items, and it DOES. Only drawback there is it seems to be backwards somehow on such devices, meaning, how a battery charger would seem to have a "front" to it, like where a power level indicator display or power button is found, for example, the direction of air flow is opposite to that -- not really a problem, except on chargers where having to put the charger face down, the wrong way, means it doesn't sit flat. I've solved that by standing such chargers vertically, so a flat side can be found, to be used, and, instead of bending the stem of the fan (which is fairly loose anyway) I then just keep the fan standing straight. It is very stable, and doesn't blow hard enough to knock itself over. Uses? Well, now that summer is here, I actually am using it, at times, as an added cooling aid for my laptop, but it also does push enough of a small volume of air that it can be felt a few feet away, so, like in my office, since my air con is across the room, it helps circulate cool air toward me while I'm working, and I really like that it does so in absolute silence, and I like that, using a charging device as a power source, I can put it where I want. I've hit my hand a few times on the exposed blades, and it's always a shock, of course, just the reaction. It doesn't hurt or even sting, at all, but it's just the unexpectedness of it, so I've learned to place it out of the way when using it, to avoid that self-created annoyance. I really like that it can connect to a portable power source -- I have a few back up chargers that I really rarely use, and it's actually good to be able to use them for something now, and the power drain is very slight, meaning the fan will run for hours and hours, and I don't have to take up a needed USB port on my laptop or data hub, plus, as mentioned earlier, I can put the fan wherever I want it. The flexible stem will hold somewhat of flex, if you get it just right, so, as I say, I was able to use it to help cool my laptop, using a flat charger I have and bending the stem upwards to just over a 90 degree angle, to aim the airflow at the computer. Worked great. Right now I am using it at my desk, on this hot day, just to help move air around and cool me down somewhat. I was going to get the one with the data hub, but it was sold out, and this one was less money anyway, and I'm glad I got this one, since it is so portable, in use with a charger. It's a go anywhere fan, and, while it doesn't blast a huge breeze, it is a noticeable air flow that is pleasant, so, like I say in my title, it's not a windstorm, but it is what it is, and is exactly as described. So, if you're looking for a small air circulation/cooling fan, that is noiseless and totally portable through the use of a charging device, this is definitely the fan you want! Compared to units that are desktop/USB plug in fans, that run more like twenty or even thirty bucks, this one, for eight dollars, performs just as well, and has the added benefits of no noise and extreme portability. All in all, knowing what to expect, and not thinking it should be something it's not, I have zero complaints and am very pleased with this purchase, a very low cost fan I can have anywhere, so it sure gets five stars from me! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Amazing quite little fan that pushes a decent amount of air.
First off I would like to note how quite this fan really is, it is almost 100% silent with only a very slight hum from the motor/vibration. A lot of the time I have to put my ear literally right next to the fan to even hear it at all. It is BY FAR the most silent fan I have ever used in my life. Although personally I have no problem with noisy fans, as I am a 'fan' (pardon the pun) of white noise, but it is nice to have something so silent just in case that is required. For example it works well in college classes because it does not disrupt the other students. Although they will probably ask you about it since it is so useful/neat on hot days! Secondly the amount of air this pushes is quite impressive. It's no hurricane force by any means, the way it moves air is quite gentle, yet at the same time very satisfying. It isn't so much a focused beam of air, but rather a nice mellow wall of air. I find it is useful to about 3ft or so, and 2ft or less being the butter zone. So far I have been using this fan exclusively with an external USB battery pack. At first I tried to lay the pack down and adjust the neck of the fan towards me at roughly a 90 degree angle, but the pack I am using just isn't heavy enough and the fan wants to tumble over most of the time (it's got a decent amount of weight to it). So I just set it down with the fan sticking out upright from the pack (the neck is completely straight, as well is the battery pack). It is a bit top-heavy like this, but doesn't topple over unless I really bump it (or bump the table it is on) pretty hard. With the 2800mAh battery pack I am using (http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Gadgets-External-Smartphones-electronic/dp/B00DOMKBMS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1400224324&sr=8-5&keywords=gorilla+gadgets) I get anywhere between 9-1/2 hours to 10-1/2 hours of constant use before the fan just stops abruptly. That is pretty amazing seeing as how small the battery pack is. The only downside to the fan is of course trying to adjust it while it is on, you WILL get hit. Luckily it doesn't do any major or even minor damage, but it can be startling. And the other negative is that the neck really doesn't hold that many positions, bend it too far and it just springs right back. Plus the weight of the fan limits the amount of contorting it can do as well. But for what I use it for (not bending it at all) it is flawless. And for the incredibly cheap price, this product exceeds my expectations and I just hope it lasts a nice long time!

The fan is great. It's quite and works well
The fan is great. It's quite and works well. It needs a couple things though. First off, it needs a cage. Make it removable if you need; that's fine. I need to be able to contain it within something though so I don't have to be overly concerned with sticking my finger, or a cable, or anything else into the blades on accident. Not that they'll cut me or anything. It just sounds like I stuck a pencil in a fan which can be a disconcerting sound when head in the confines of an airplane cabin. That's why I bought this unit, to cool me down while flying internationally. It works great for that. Second, it needs a simple on/off switch. I should have to unplug the thing to turn it off. That's very inconvenient, especially when it's difficult to mount it to anything to begin with. Third, a longer flex shaft would be exceptionally handy when trying to attach it to something. The thing is barely long enough to flex around anything of any size. In the end I velcroed it to a short dowel rod and stuck that in the pocket of the seat in front of me. It would have been much easier if I'd had enough flex shaft length to attach it to my arm rest. Overall a good buy. They just need to add to it to make it really useful.

Fanning the Flame!
Have you ever seen this message on your pc manufactures website? WARNING! To reduce the possibility of heat-related injuries or of overheating the computer, do not place the computer directly on your body or obstruct the computer air vents. Use the computer only on a hard, flat surface. Do not allow another hard surface, such as an adjoining optional printer, or a soft surface, such as pillows or rugs or clothing, to block airflow. Probably not, but that is the message I saw a few days ago on my Kangaroo pc's website while searching for something unrelated. In case you don't know, the Kangaroo is a fanless mini pc that is about the size of a 6.2 inch phone. I took this pc out of a 4 year hibernation two weeks ago to give to my parents and I've been testing it to see if it would run as well as the Zotac Zbox it was replacing. I tested it running youtube videos on autoplay. After a while the videos started slowing down, skipping and stuttering. I touched the pc out of curiosity and it was hot. Not warm. Hot! That's when I recalled the heat issues and the affect it has on the performance. So, I started looking for fans and decided on this one. I'm so impressed I started writing this review only after hours of using it. After 15 minutes or less the kangaroo is completely cool. Surprisingly cool. I tested it with the fan and without to be sure because I didn't expect these results. Without a question, this fan makes a difference. If you look at the pic I took you will see the vents are on side. Since the arm is a bit short, the only drawback I can think of, the fan is facing the back, not the vents, but it works perfectly. It does have a low hum you can hear in total silence but overall its quiet. Since you can't disable USB ports during sleep, the fan continuously runs if the computer is not completely off. I came to a compromise and switched to a 15 inch flat panel TV (not pictured) with a USB port. When the TV auto shuts off during sleep the fan powers down. Obviously I can't speak to the longevity but it does the job it is supposed to. Highly recommended!

A Very High Quality Fan, With A Few Design Fails That Would Add 5 Cents Or Less In Manufacturing Cost To Make It A Real Standout
I did not expect this fan to make my hair blow in the breeze like a turbofan jet engine. However, I have to disagree with some reviewers who say they felt next to nothing from the fan. Unless, of course they did get defective units. I kind of bought this on a whim, not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the breeze this puts out. The blade spins at 1700 RPM. The breeze is rather pleasant. Not too strong directed at your face, but diffused enough for you to feel a gentle breeze and fresh air on your upper body. And it is extremely quiet. I am impressed enough that I bought 2 more, and right angle USB adapters to make it stand straight up. Which made a huge improvement. Now for misses that without, would make this a much better fan. I think that all of these USB fans and lights should a right angle USB plug so that the goose-neck goes straight up. This fan is 7-3/4 inches, from the top of the blade to the very end of the plug. The goose-neck is only 2-3/4 inches long. When plugged in, with the tightest radius I could bend it, it stuck out 3 inches from the side of the laptop,. Way too much. With the short goose-neck the fan clears the bottom of the keyboard & screen, but not by much. Considering the cost of manufacturing in China, no doubt this fan could be greatly improved for pennies more per unit. 3 suggestions for the perfect fan. 1- Should have a right angle USB plug. 2- Lengthen the Goose-neck from 2-3/4in. to 6in. , which would raise the fan to about 1 inch from the top of a 15-1/2in. screen. 3- A small grip on the back of the fan motor to grasp while adjusting to keep your fingers from getting whacked by the blades when making adjustments. Would I buy it again? Absolutely yes, I already bought 2 more. It's a great fan with a few tolerable flaws. Here's a link to a right angle adapter that will bring it up to a little higher than midscreen. I already ordered one. Thanks for reading. I hope someone finds my review helpful in making a buying decision. ---> Apollo23-4 Pin USB 2.0 A M / F Extension Adapter Connector

Does its job, but minimal at best.
I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend for her birthday, and let's just say, it's not as great as advertised. I read some other reviews, and they seemed more positive. The shipping was fast, and the product is not broken or anything. However, I have a few pros and cons for this device. Pros: - Lightweight - Works through any USB device, I even used it with an external charger that has a USB port, and carried it around. - Barely makes any noise - Adjustable neck is stable, but also flexible Cons: - The air generated by the fan is.. underwhelming at best. The only way you're going to feel the air hitting you is if you have the laptop sitting on a high desk, and you scrunch down to its level. - The adjustable neck is quite short, anybody with large hands would have trouble when adjusting it while the fan is on. It's not too painful to get hit by the fan, but it gives you a sting. - It'd be nice if it had a little on/off button or switch, just so you don't have to constantly unplug to change the way it bends or turn it off, but that's minor. Overall, if you're AC is off and you need something as a life saver, this isn't your product. If you don't have a laptop, or a portable means of connecting it too, it's not for you. But if you already have a rather cool room, and you just want that cool air to hit you, and you don't mind learning forward a bit to feel the air, then it's a good product. I'd settle for something on a larger scale though.

10 Years Later. Still Working!
I purchased a few of these fans back in 2013! It is now 2023! I originally purchased them for use while camping. Tents can be hot in summer. So using this with a battery pack was great. They last a long time on a battery backup, and kept me cool while sleeping (or awake in the tent). After that, I have found them useful for at my computer desk. A desktop computer can heat up a room. And my small office room in the house could be 5 to 10 F hotter than the rest of the house. I plugged this fan into one of the desktops side USB ports and pointed it up towards me from under the desk. This really helps! From a few feet away it isn't very strong. Which is good, I don't want to really have an air turbine blowing at me while on my computer. But, it gives a nice breeze. The main reason I bring this up is. I've had this fan plugged in for months straight. I unplug it sometimes at night, or if I won't be home for a couple days. But, I leave it in for extended times as well. I have this plugged into a standard USB 2.0 port giving 0.5 amps. It is still smooth and quiet like it was 10 years ago. It just keeps going and working perfectly.

Decent little fan
It is a decent little fan. Not a hard blowing fan, but I was surprised at how much cooler I felt with this little thing blowing on me. Very quiet. It is a little shorter than I thought it would be, but not a huge deal. The stem part of the fan is metal and stays where you adjust it. The blades are a hard plastic, and with no cover, can be a little painful if you hit your finger on it. Noting to draw blood, but it does smart a bit. I think having a cover over the blades would reduce the wind from it even more. No idea on longevity yet, but will report if and when it does die. Just be aware, everyone where I work loves it (we share computers) and they get upset if I grab it and move it to where I am sitting. I am afraid it may walk away someday, but I have written my name on it just so they know who they stole it from. I did have one guy a work order himself one, should be in already, just have not seen him since then. update: So here I am 3 years later and this little fan is still going. This is with it being moved around 3-4 times a day when used, people playing with it sticking their finger in to to slow it down or to hear the ticking it makes, and it still works. There are 4-5 others at work that have bought these as well, although they seem to have issues with theirs (they keep breaking blades off, one guy has gone through 8 of these in 2 years since he puts them in his backpack).\ Final update: well, after 4 years, I dropped it and one of the blades broke off. :( The fan itself was still working fine, but with a broken blade it is unbalanced and unusable. I bought another one to replace it. Still love them.
