I purchased this paper cutter for one reason. To cut heavy duty commercial plastic vacuum seal bags from a roll. Using scissors is extremely time consuming, tedious, and precarious at best. As it’s virtually impossible to cut them strait. This paper cutter does the job flawlessly and perfectly every time in seconds. Saves me a ton of time and effort. And now allows me to make my bags into any size I want. I haven’t tried paper in it yet but the blade is sharp. It rides on the cutting surface like you’re sharpening a sword and it’s heavy duty and built well. So I have no doubt it will cut paper as advertised. And I’m completely satisfied with the price. I’m confident that this paper cutter is going to last for years.

We just received ours. When I asked Rufus about certain materials, the reply was that it does not cut picture framing mat material, but indeed it does. I removed the guard and it did a clean cut, easy peasy. As a test, I doubled the mat material and it did cut, just not quite as clean of an edge. I also tried cardboard box and that was also a nice clean cut. The blade is so sharp and so steady, we might try slicing steak carpaccio on a nice, not quite frozen, piece of beef.

I was really hoping this paper cutter would be a reliable tool for my crafting and office needs, but unfortunately, I’m not pleased with the accuracy of the cuts. While the design is decent and it feels sturdy enough, it consistently cuts slightly crooked, even when I take my time to line the paper up carefully. I’ve tried repositioning and double-checking the alignment with the guide, but the results are still off—especially noticeable when trimming multiple sheets or needing precise cuts for projects. For basic or casual use, it might be fine, but if you need clean, straight, professional-looking cuts, this might not be the right tool. On the plus side, the blade is sharp and it does cut through paper with ease. But the lack of cutting precision really defeats the purpose, especially for anyone using it for scrapbooking, card-making, or detailed office tasks. I really wanted to like it, but I can’t recommend it for anyone who needs accurate, straight cuts.

Another update: Purchased a third time. This one came with the guard unbroken. But the quality of the blade isn’t the best. I use this for packaging and cut hundreds of items per batch. Mostly just paper and cardstock. Things like zines, belly bands, backing cards, emergency business cards. The blade has degraded with less than 5000 cuts. It is no longer sharp and will stick in places. The hinge has also become stiff and very squeaky. This isn’t a quality tool. I bought it because I really really needed it but I would not purchase again, didn’t return it because there are very few good quality options available for me. And this is an essential tool. Id rather have something crappy and still be able to work while I look for something good patiently. This is trash though. Don’t buy it. Update: just received my second order. I attempted to get a replacement which also came with the guard broken. I do not recommend purchasing this item. I will not attempt to reorder again. Returned immediately. Didn’t have time to even take pictures. As soon as I saw the item in my mailroom I knew there would be trouble, but regardless I opened it, for giggles. I receieved a broken, not new Guillotine. Even though the guard has “do not remove” very clearly printed on it. The previous owner decided to go ahead and try, and only succeded in breaking the guard and making it loose. Now the guard shifts. The guard also had two other areas with stress cracks. Original owner returned it after breaking. I honestly feel like items sold in this state should not be advertised as new. These are dangerous tools that can cause serious injury when safety components do not function as intended. When attempting to return, I was offered a $13.00 refund to keep the item. I would much rather have the new guillotine that I purchased in the first place.

I organize a retreat where I need to make up pocket size agenda cards so that all of the cats are properly herded. After sitting at a table for hours cutting hundreds of these cards up with scissors, I decided a paper cutter was needed. Well... this thing is solid and it cuts super clean. It is overengineered for what I am doing. But... my gosh it is sharp. I have had it for over a year and cut hundreds or thousands of these agenda cards and the thing is as sharp as the day I bought it. It will draw blood if you just casually hit your hand on the blade... and it is that kind of cut that just keeps on bleeding forever! So... be careful around this thing! Guillotine is a good word for it.

I love this paper cutter, but it has sliced my hand twice from withdrawing my hand from under the blade area when adjusting alignment. The blade rises very high leaving the sharp knife blade exposed. It really is sharp as a knife. This should never be used by children. The safety shield can be bumped off the cutter. It is needed to hold down the paper. But it would be easy to accidentally remove fingers if they got in the way. Repeat, this uses a sharp blade rather than a squared edge to cut the paper. Carrying it, the safety latch falls down away from the blade. I use a heavy rubber band to secure the latch before moving this cutter. It is not too heavy nor too light. It is a scary device, and much caution should be used. It does make very nice cuts. The guard limits it to 10-15 pages at a time. The accuracy of the back edge is a bit off on both our machines. I use the grid lines as they seem more accurate.

I've used a few times and it cuts well. Used to cut 12mil magnetic sheet.

everything was great. but the blade is already blunt after daily use for 2 weeks. so i am unable to say that it is value for money. i suppose it can still be useful for light use. but for me, i have already wasted a lot of paper for my stacked cuts. i need to get another to replace this.
