Switch to automatic feeding with this...
So about six months ago I switched to automatic feeders (compared to hand feeding) and have bought about 6 of these devices (all for different tanks) as my daily drivers. I believe over this course of time I can list a few pros and cons about this product that I think you should think about. Pros: 1) Simplicity - this product is super simple to manage and program. I lost the owners manuals a couple of months ago and honestly with three to four buttons, you don't really need the manual to figure out how to program this device. Also the amount regulator is really easy to adjust (tiny plastic door) depending on the quantity of food you want to distribute. I like to err on the side of less, and just increase the # of revolutions if I feel the fish need more. 2) Consistency - this was a huge reason for me to switch to automatic feeders. I am a sucker to over-feeding, and working with mostly nano tanks, I have gone through every problem that too much food can bring. From algae, to smelly water, to fat fish, to being tempted into an extra pinch of food for entertainment's sake, yeah I made all those mistakes and paid for every single one of them. Now I can go weeks without ever touching the fish food which gives me a baseline to adjust the amount if I need to. It also helps me diagnose problems without worrying about the variable of over-feeding as a cause. 3) Dependability - been using this device for months without a hitch. Mainly I wanted to use this as a helper during vacations, but I wanted to make sure it would do the job while I was watching it. Sure enough, after a couple of months I never ran into a technical problem with this product. Also the 'dissolving' food option for vacationers seemed like a cheaper route, but the reviews I read about those products, scared me away with putting so many extra chemicals into the water (btw when you are away for multiple weeks you probably aren't going to have someone do water changes). Cons: (yes I still would give this product 5 stars) 1) Different types of food - will require a second feeder. I have corys and gouramis in the same tank so I need two of these devices to make sure both get the food they need. For the gouramis I have flake food, but for the corys I have sinking pellets. I have thought about mixing the two together and having just one device, but I realized earlier on that the consistency would seriously fail if I tried this. 2) Food of different sizes - could get stuck. So this doesnt really matter for flake food, but if you have bettas and the pellets are of different sizes then you might want to switch to flakes. If you leave the door to tight, the large particles could get stuck and block the food from coming out, but if you open the door too wide, you could end up dropping too much food. Bottom line, unless the pellets are consistently the same size, go for the flake food AND err on the side of not dropping a lot of food. 3) Moisture - don't place over an air stone or HOB filter. I learned this the hard way coming back from a one week vacation. I positioned the feeder over an airstone, and the water splashes ended around and inside the container. After a week all the food was rotten and was caked into the feeder (the fish were fasting for quite a few days). Rachel O'leary mentioned this, that if you have a really moist or humid fish room, you shouldn't use fish feeders at all, and I totally agree with her. But keeping the feeder away from my HOB filter and air stone was perfect in keeping all of the food dry for weeks upon weeks. 4) Forgetting - to change or re-fill food. This is a great problem to have btw, but I do forget to refill or adjust the programming base on my fish stock at the moment. For example, if I move a whole mess of fish out of a tank and forget to adjust the amount of food dropped, then I can easily run into a problem of over-feeding. While this is clearly an operator's error, a practice not done everyday is easy to forget. Those are my thoughts on this feeder, even with all the cons to keep in mind, I would definitely give this product 5 stars and I will continue to buy only this brand because it works for me. Please note that I have not used any other brand, but I did comb through all the reviews before settling on this device and I think the pros greatly outweigh my concerns. Hope this review helped.

High quality product, but died after only six years ;^>
UPDATE: The new model comes with an excellent, full-color Quick Start Set-Up Guide, with pictures, that clearly explains how to set up the clock and timers. I'd add an extra star, but I already gave it five. I like this so much, that I'm ordering a new Eheim Everyday Automatic Fish Feeder in January 2024 since the one I bought in 2017 stopped working. Pros: This is a high-quality product. It's very reliable. It's flexible in both the number of feedings per day and the size of the feedings. A tiny fan in the unit blows air through the feed while the feeding drum spins to help keep the food dry. You can feed up to four times a day. You set the size of all feedings by changing the size of the opening on the feed drum. Batteries last a couple of years. Cons: It's a little difficult to figure out how to set it up using the set, program, and + buttons. You set the clock time, then set the times for up to four feedings per day. Then, for each feeding time, set the number of feedings (rotations of the feeding drum to dump food in the tank). Once you learn what the buttons do and what order to set them, it's do-able. The timer's the old-fashioned version that only goes up, so if you go past your desired time, you have to run it all the way around the clock. I recommend this feeder, obviously, since I'm ordering a new one to replace my 6-year-old one that no longer turns. I use two on my 55-gallon tank in case one stops working as just happened. Eheim makes a Wi-Fi version with an app that may be easier to program, but it's not available in the US and will likely be expensive. There are cheaper copies of this device on the market, but I trust Eheim's quality, and the copies may not have features like the fan that helps keep the food dry.

Great for nano tanks - Adjustable for various amounts and food sizes
TL;DR: adjustable for both size and amounts , up to four feedings per day, good for any size tank. Will buy again. Full Review: I was looking for an auto feeder that could handle periods of over two weeks for small minimally stocked tanks (two small clownfish and some inverts). The eheim everyday works beautifully. The adjustable doser door allows for fine enough tuning that I can feed a half dozen or so tiny pellets (new life spectrum marine fish - less than 1mm each) to larger flake foods or turtle pellets for my other tanks. The system allows you to program up to four feeding times per day (you can also set it to turn twice at any feeding time, doubling the amount fed) If you want to manually feed, the Eheim logo on the feeder is also a manual feed button, causing the feeder to rotate once feeding the tank. I strongly recommend loading the feeder and testing it off the tank (maybe over a plastic container to catch any food) so that you can figure out how far to open the doser. (You donโt want to accidentally flood your tank with food) On that same note, be careful when removing the food container, ensuring that the lid stays on the food container (and not the motor side) so that the food doesnโt accidentally come pouring into your tank. The included clamp mount fit my rimless all in one shrimp pico tank perfectly, but required some modification for my rimmed 15 gal because I also use a glass lid over most of it to reduce evaporation. The solution was simple and can be seen in the attached video. I simply attached a piece of plastic to the auto feeder and the included tank clamp using the included screws and a bit of Velcro (Iโll probably replace it with the industrial Velcro). This setup allows me to adjust the position of the feeder so that it drops in the narrow gap that I have available without interfering with my light. It comes packaged with two AA batteries, though I donโt know how long they will last. I will run them until they run out and decide what to use. ( Iโll likely replace them with enloop rechargeable AA batteries for reliability) All in all, Iโm very happy with this feeder, and will likely be getting more for my other tanks.

EHEIM fish feeder 5*
I own 3 Eheim Everyday Fish Feeders. They are also called air feeders due to a fan used to feed air into the food containter when it activates, to help keep the food fresh. I run a home aquaponics system and so have various tanks to raise fingerlings before they go into my aquaponics tanks. This feeder is the only unit I use for these indoor tanks, though I use a professional US made super-feed feeder in my outdoor grow tank. I highly recommend the Eheim brand and this particular feeder. I will comment on why I recommend this and then some special handling items. First, as I mentioned I have three of these units. Two are run 24/7. These units are reliable, last between 1-2 weeks for feeding capacity (different sized fish supplied by each one), and built very well. The built well comes from the fact that one unit has fallen into the tank twice. Immediate recovery, turn off, then air drying of the internals was sufficient for the unit to operate as good as new. I have used these units for 8 months now without problem. They do come with a sticky backed velcro mount so that they are not prone to fall into the tank. I use those on the one that likes the water. I have had problems with only one unit after about 20 days of first operation where it lost its programming, and upon replacing the batteries it operated for a few days and completely died. This occurred with use out of box, it was not dropped into the water :-) and it was used as recommended. I emailed Eheim, and was advised to return it to their factory or an authorized service center. I returned it to Eheim's Montreal office with a copy of the email and they sent a fixed unit back about 4 weeks later. So, this is why I also recommend the brand. Nothing is perfect, and when I got one lemon out of three -- they fixed it. On using these units: * you must calibrate the feeder so that on an average run it feeds the amount you want -- that is, weigh or measure the amount fed after 10 consecutive runs and then determine what the average is for each feed -- it is a simple mechanical feed mechanism -- this is why it is reliable -- so it is not exact. Your fish are not exact either, they can eat a bit less sometimes. * once you know how much to open the feeder, mark it with a permanent marker -- you need to close it to refill, so this way you will know where to open it back to * you can run the feeder up to 4 different times a day, and each time can have an optional second feed a minute after the first * I grow tilapia, so I feed my fish only what they will completely eat in 2 minutes * the unit is heavy on the side towards the water when it is full -- when doing tank maintenance, remove it so it out of the way (obvious, but I did drop one unit twice) * if your unit goes for a swim: take it out immediately, remove and discard the batteries, keep the battery door off and gently blow dry the unit. Dispose of wet food and clean out the food compartment. Once you are certain everything is DRY, then put fresh batteries in and reprogram the unit. * when using the unit for the first time, allow a week (before you go on vacation) to ensure it is operating fine and feeding the way and amount you want -- don't just set it up the night before you leave -- this way you will see how long your feed lasts also * the feeder does dispense less when it nears empty -- but again, fish adapt * I only use the unit with pellet food - one feeder has a mix of 1/8" and 3/16" pellets, the second feeder has fingerling powder Good luck!

EHEIM Electronic feeders. THE VERY BEST
I just purchased (3) of these units and They are GREAT. Set up was EZ. MAKE SHURE you follow TIMER settings to the LETTER. If you don't, the fish won't get feed. Over all construction is very good that I rate as near commercial grade and not crappo plastic creeky light junk (unit built old school heavy and stout) Tested operation on my (3) aquariums 2X feeding todasy and all units working perfect. As a precaution, when the food amount was ajusted correct, I put a piece of clear tape on the feed door to prevent it's movement. Food Mix/size. Take a quantity of food and put in small bowl and break down a bit and put into hopper. I found that holding a the unit over a clean sheet of paper, was a wonderful food test strip. Hit "snack" mode and ajust door to your quantity desired. Tape door to that position. Put unit on tank and hit snack mode and get food set in tumbler, your set. I have done a lot of reading on Auto fish feeders and The Eheim is the one that I purchased based on , not Amazon or Ebay , but other fish forums on the web. I wanted to hear what people were REALLY saying and not the bloated reviews on consumer sites. I have a lot of expensive Cichlids and I'm not losing them to some crappy product. Spend the extra $5.00 and get the Eheim. FOOD RECOMENDED. 1. Rroken down flakes, 1/16 to 1/4 in size. 2. Pellets. Salt grain size to No more than 3/16 size. Mixing foods. Broken down flakes with 1/16 to 1/8 pellets only. I only know this through testing last evening with some junk test food I don't use but is of same size as my PRO grade Cichlid food. Fill food hopper to at least 1/3 to 1/2 way for best results. I found pellets mixed with flakes seem to give better consistancy than just flakes alone. Pellets seem to act as mixing rocks. BATTERYS. Use known NEW batterys for unit. It will come with batterys, but do you really want to take that chance??? DO NOT USE rechargeable batterys. Why? The sudden voltage droop that all nicads have causes the timer to crash and revert to reset. Not good and starving fish. UNIT SIZE AND MOUNTING. Bottom line, it's the size of a regular pop or beer can. ADD one inch in height if you use mounting bracket. MOUNTING. The bracket supplyed will fit the sides of straight glass to an aquarium with a plastic frame top. Unit can also be positioned to just sit flat on a surface with no bracket at all. HEAT AND TIME. With the mega roasting death temps here in Chicago 106'F. I had nothing but Time to test these units to the T before using while going away soon on vacation. ENJOY John

Dependable, easy to adjust - so much better for my tank than dissolving food blocks!
This little battery powered wonder saved me a lot of worry when my husband and I finally took a 2 week trip we'd planned for ages. It is easy to set the time, and fairly simple to program for single to multiple feedings each day. It's easy to calibrate how much food will be delivered; fill the chamber, choose the size of the opening, set it over a paper towel, and push the button to see how much food comes out (the first time is often different than later amounts, because the chamber needs to rotate and pick up the food first). Depending on the size of the fish food pellets and size of the opening you set, this can dispense teeny amounts through a whole lot of food. I've filled the unit four times so far, each time with different sized food, and had no problem setting it to deliver just the right amounts of food each time. I'm certain it could feed small fish for over a month with the proper set opening; my own tank has big (8-14") goldfish, so we tend to refill more often. Very handy gadget! I've now been using this wonderful gadget for several months, and have learned new things to share. 1) Testing the amount of food to be dispensed is tricky but worth the extra tinkering time necessary. Larger food pellets might need to be fed by programming one of the repeats, about a minute later - the little chamber to hold the amount to be dispensed is rather small, so it can't hold dozens of big pellets. By adjusting the size of the food chamber opening, you control how much food is dispensed. 2). If you rotate feeding different foods, each time you fill the holding chamber, you will need to re set the opening size and adjust it to dispense the correct amount of the new food. 3). My fish are way too large to use flaked foods, so I'm not certain how to recommend settings for the proper amounts. 4). You may need to tinker a bit with the placement of your feeder, in relation to the opening through which food will drop. I have a 75 gallon tank, and removed a 1.5" length from the plastic spacing strip for the glass lid in one corner, to create a place for the food to drop into my tank. ( My unit sits directly on the glass lid, and did not need to use the provided attachments.). I learned this food hole needed to be situated well away from my large bubbling air stones (bubble spray sometimes made food stick together in clumps on edge of tank lid), and that the unit could accidentally get bumped and moved over if I opened the tank lid. This meant a couple times, the fish food got dropped on the glass lid, and once after a really BIG bump, the food got dropped on the back of the sofa cushions( our dogs thought the fish food was a surprise, tasty treat). Keep an eye on how full the food chamber is; when levels are low, it tends to dispense less food per drop than when the chamber is newly filled full.

Good if they send you a brand new unit
I ordered this item assuming it would be brand new, however that was not the case (my mistake, but the fact that it was refurbished was not as visible as other items I've ordered, and I've ordered a lot of stuff). However, I also ordered another item around the same time and it still has not arrived, despite being reordered three times(damaged, wrong size, sent to opposite side of the state I live in). Basically, Amazon's shipping/handling/QC seems to have gone to **** in 2024. Besides that, I've owned two of these units and they work well as long as you keep them dry, DON'T feed flake food, and leave smaller amounts of food in the hopper, so it doesn't cake up at the opening. The timer feature is very helpful if you want to feed several times a day. I use this feeder only as a supplementary aid to my manual frozen/homemade feedings or when I go on a trip, but it can easily be used as a primary method of feeding. The hopper holds a large amount of food, however I do not recommend you fill it up all the way, since the food is more likely to get stuck and not dispense at all (if you must feed flakes, break them up a little first). Also, the opening is always open to the air unless you manually slide it shut. Therefore, the food can go bad quickly, especially if you live in a humid environment, like I do. The fan actually exacerbates this issue. For these reasons, I only add enough to last a week or two. Most dry fish food containers have an expiration date on the container, and most people I know, keep using it well past it's realistic shelf life. It's not necessarily bad, but your fish will be happier with a fresh batch :) Like some others have mentioned, make sure it is secure. My first unit fell in my tank, because I used the velcro provided. Either use the clamp or get a larger piece of heavy duty velcro, which you can also get on Amazon. Also, the battery housing was not water tight, thus causing corrosion and the inevitable failure of the unit.

Reliable, schedule highly customizable, and holds plenty of food
Extremely useful and functional, this automatic food dispenser is awesome. I first ordered one in 2012 for a 10 gallon aquarium and it has worked great for over two years. I have not changed the battery yet and I have it set to feed the fish once a day (4 rotations of the dispenser). The adjustable cover limits how much food that gets dispensed. An automatic food dispenser is highly recommended whenever possible and this one fits the bill perfectly. Your mileage may vary, of course, but the way I have it setup, the food dispenser can hold about a year's supply of flakes. This means that for about a year, I never forget a feeding or worry about my fish dying because of not enough food. It's fun because the fish learn quickly. They quickly learn the timing so that when it's about that time, they start working up a frenzy and then when they hear(?) the motor turning, they go into full frenzy mode looking for food. In fact, I think they are more tuned to the motor because when I manually feed them off schedule by pressing the manual release button, the fish go nuts before any flakes even hits the water. This dispenser has been so reliable and has made this hobby so pleasant that I ordered a second one for my second aquarium and have recommended this dispenser to anyone who has even hinted at the hobby as a way to make the hobby a pleasant experience. The dispenser comes with mounts to attach to the side of the aquarium but my aquariums' lips do not work well with the mounts so I simply put them on top of the aquarium, resting on the hob filter or the light. The feeder requires only a small opening so mounting options are endless. The programming allows a huge number of variations in your feeding schedule. Since I feed my fish only once a day, I definitely am not taking full advantage of the programming available but if you require a complicated feeding schedule, take a look at this feeder. It will likely fulfill your needs. The motor is on the loud side, esp for its size. However, since feedings are infrequent, the noise is not a huge concern. The volume is not as loud as running water, but it is a bit louder than the rest of the aquarium. In fact, the slight extra noise is nice because it allows me to remember that a feeding is occurring which mean that it is time for a fish watching break. Simply put, this is a highly recommended dispenser for any aquarium owner.

Very reliable feeder
Great feeder, arrived quickly! I tried it out for 3 weeks prior to going on 2.5 week holiday. I'd recommend you do the same just to see if it's the right kind of feeder for your fish. There are many pros and just a couple of cons to it: PROS 1. Set up was very simple. 2. Feeder can accommodate up to 8 feedings a day. 3. No need to cut a hole in your fish tank hood - I moved one of the covers just for a few centimetres to allow the food to fall. 4. The supplied batteries last forever - had the feeder on for about 2 months now and the low battery light is still not showing up! 5. Pellet food does not lump together unlike flake food. It was still nice and dry after a couple of weeks of using. 6. You can regulate how much food falls in, however, it is not extremely reliable (explained below) 7. You can feed your fish any time using EHEIM top button. This is additional to any other feedings you've set up. CONS 1. As my goldfish are quite big (25 cm), I only use pellet food. This is fine, but sometimes it does get a bit stuck and different amounts are dispensed each time. I have tried to measure how much exactly would fall, but it differs every time. Not that big of a deal though - my fish still get the food! 2. I stopped using if after i came back as it turned my fish a bit antisocial. So if you like your fish coming up to your hand to feed, only use it when you're not at home :)
