Upright Bass Primer: For Beginners

It was easy to use and read music. The diagrams, and CD made learning a whole lot easier. I enjoyed very much.

I had no one to help me learn and was looking for help. This is a book with CD. It walks you step by step on playing the bass. I can not read music and this has the notes plus TAB. 😍 You can learn at your own pace and it is wonderful for the beginner as it starts with open G and builds each chord one note at a time. I highly recommend it.

I am about halfway through the book. I was able to quickly play songs and understand the I/V approach to bluegrass bass. The video walks you through things in an step-wise manner. Playing along with the audio/video tracks feels more like fun than practice. What I did not expect was the physical demands of playing the double bass, especially the left hand strength. That will just take some time. The video quality is a bit dated but that probably does not impact the usefulness of the book. As another reviewer noted, I could not download the MP3 files and play them on another device. Once I get through the book, I feel I will know enough to muddle through a bluegrass jam

This is a great book!! The best one I've found for me, as a beginner bass player ( I started a couple of months ago). Tabs are easy to follow and it's like you are playing with a band when you practice with the cd. DVD gives you good information on lots of different topics. I also like that the songs are normally in both slow and fast pace. You can chose what kind of practice you want to do. I had never played bluegrass before...now I do! But with this basic chords you can play so much more than bluegrass. I've been trying these on country music and 50's rock'n'roll. Does the job. I'm really excited about this!! =D

The book and video are a perfect match as you can review techniques as many times as needed. I highly recommend this starter!

Just a basic beginning book. Nothing special.

I have been taking Upright bass lessons for a few months now. I LOVE this book, very easy to follow, and it is fun to hear yourself play along with the CD. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to learn a little Blue Grass.

I was already and electric bass player, not a studio musician by any means, but good enough to play in concert with others. This book was all i needed to get me started on the upright bass. I was able to competently play some three chord bluegrass style gospel at my church the Sunday after I received this book.

This is a great introduction to learning double bass! The recordings that assist are done in slow and fast version, it aids with reading music and also gives you great logistocal advise on how to hold your bass, which height it should be etc. This is a great great great beginners book!
