10 bucks for this service is a great deal, and if they can't recover the data
Hope to never need to use this service, but well worth the price tag. I lost one-of-a-kind videos of when my son was born, shortly after transferring them to my PC. (Had not made a backup before the drive failed a few days later.) A professional data recovery lab wanted over $1200.00 to tear the platters from the drive and recover my data, and that was a lot less than other labs were asking. (Mechanical failure of drive, not simple data corruption. I've recovered data from drives after partition(s) deleted/recreated/reformatted without any probs.) Needless to say, 10 bucks for this service is a great deal, and if they can't recover the data, the money is refunded. ***BACK-UP YOUR DATA, AND MAKE BACKUPS OF BACKUPS IF THE DATA IS IRREPLACEABLE!!!*** (CD'S/DVD'S/Blu-Ray disks DO go bad, eventually, as well.)

Small price to pay for protection
It may be a little bit redundant to obtain tw o-year protection on a device that operates typically five years, but one's hard drive being electromechanical can go out at any time. I have had a couple of hard drives back in time that didn-t last a month. However, everything I read about the HGST 1 TB, 7200 rpm drive is true. While not a Solid State Drive it is very fast. I am much more than satisfied with it. Anyway, the warranty was a very small expense and it is worth the peace of mind that one gets from a warranty.

Easy to setup
I was worried to by a warranty somewhat disconnected from my purchase. Granted I did by them at the same time, nothing states one supports the other other than it was recommended by the portal to purchase as a protection plan. I have not had any issues with the drives that I have purchased so I have not had to exercise this production but, I can say that the setup was quite easy. I looks like it supports lots of products but mine where easy to find. I would note you need to have your serial numbers. I'm fortunate enough to be running linux and it was easy for me to list serial numbers without looking directly at the drive.

Lacks adequate traceability
I am very unhappy that there is no specific detail provided in any documentation regarding the Amazon item the Plan covers. There is nothing in the email sent confirming the plan. And nothing is provided in my Orders history because the order for both is split where they may not even share the same order date for no logical reason. All that is provided is a general but vague category description with a value range. I am highly unlikely to purchase any plan again, nor would I recommend it to others.

Company needs to publish more of their good standards in their advertising
After phone conference with the company, I decided that it was easier for me to just buy a new drive. I had already made an image of the old drive that failed, prior to its failure and so was able to re-image a new drive. For the cost of this service, I suggest that this be bought for items that are relatively expensive.

As with any insurance its a numbers game??
Very nice insurance will certainly recommend where applicable. Do the math so I just spent $500 +\- for the drive and I doubt it will die but if it does and this a very cost effective solution as the alternative to sending to Seagate could cost $2-$3k. I just had a client drive die and through it in the trash.

Good idea but needs to cover more than just 2 years
It's nice that Seagate provides this plan, but it doesn't cover drives that are damaged from other causes. It says 'if your drive stops working', which is just to say if it's a lemon from the factory and stops within the warranty period. Of course it could be from an electrical surge or high temp, too, but I haven't had a drive that just 'stopped working'. That's why it's just OK in my opinion because the drive shouldn't fail within just a couple of years of normal use. If you have a good drive then you shouldn't need data recovery for several more years if at all.

Data Recovery - Great Price for this Plan
Haven't had to use these Recovery Plans yet, but they seem like a great deal! Best price for Data Recovery we've ever seen. Curious to see what happens when we have to use the Service!
