This is the accompanying book of the textbook. Grammar and sentence structures of each lesson in this book are explained to help the teachers make comparisons between Chinese and English when they teach sentence structures. Particular attention is paid to survey and explain the pronunciation and grammar of Chinese from an English speakers perspective. Grammar is explained so that teachers can provide sentence structures for students and help the students understand others and express themselves. Furthermore, games are designed in each lesson to make the children have fun in their study. Review: Great mandarin book for teachers, especially for IB - This book is aligned with IB curriculum, it includes(although outdated) assessment criterion for IB that teachers can modify and use to test students. Pretty much the same as the regular book but with teacher annotations and some answers. If you are teaching the book, I see no reason for you to not get one of these. Review: The student manual has a much better CD, one that is actually helpful in teaching ... - I'm learning Chinese and was looking for a book with more detailed information than the student manual. However, the teacher's manual is written for a Chinese-speaker who is teaching English speakers, rather than for English-speaking teachers who are teaching Chinese. In other words, the notes and instructions are all in Chinese, rather than in English, so it's not real helpful to me at this point. The CD that comes with it only has about 5 lessons on it, and only has the test material for the end of the chapters. The student manual has a much better CD, one that is actually helpful in teaching the lessons. As far as the layout of the book is concerned, it is a large spiral-bound manual, which is nice, but the lessons are confined to a 5 x 7 size on those large pages and the rest of the page is left blank, except for a few teacher notes (written in Chinese) tucked onto the side-bar. The print is light and the tone marks hard to see. If you already know Chinese and want to teach it to Americans, this is probably a good book, but if you are a student new to the language looking for extra information, it may not be the book you want.
