Economical Blu-Ray Player and Easy to Use
I purchased this LG Blu-Ray player for my housemate along with the Mediabridge Ultra Series - High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet 6 Feet Category 2 Certified - Supports 3D and Audio Return Channel and the combination made for a 3 minute set-up. This box does not have Wi-Fi capability, but if you have a router near by like we do, you can plug an ethernet / cat 5 cable into it and have Internet connectivity. We own the Roku, so this was a little redundant. The player is easy to use, the remote is not complicated and set-up was a cinch. It plays Blu-Rays nicely and the lag time for loading is nothing out of the ordinary for a box in this price range. I bought the LG to interface with an LG flatscreen. Both work together great. The Blu-Ray box has a tiny footprint so it's nice and there was no problem finding space for it. This is a straightforward, no frills Blu-Ray player by today's standard. It does what it says and if you do a hardwire hookup, you can take advantage of more online services through LG Smart TV. It just works, so we are happy.

LG BP220
Bought this BluRay player Mid - September 2012. Worked fine until the 90 day labor warranty expired then started having trouble with it locking up. The only option in the owners manual to fix this was to unplug the unit and let it reboot-no other option-not a permanent fix. Needless to say it's a pain to reach in behind the TV and the BluRay player to do this every other time you want to watch a movie. The unit has a one year warranty on parts-but not worth throwing more money toward repairs to pay for labor.

realiable and never had a problem with it.
Ive had this for 2 years now, I think and I love it, Reads almost all my dvds (i say almost all because some I have purchased in europe and south america and the region codes are not the same but im sure that a little bit of googling could tell me how to fix that, but is not much of an issue since i have a dvd player ) it doesnt have a wireless card which i do not care about because cable connection is much more reliable and faster at least in my case. The interface is easy to use though a bit slow sometimes but nothing so bad that would make me wanna punch something. When i purchased this the price tag was about 110$ so i am not too sad about it now. Im pleased with it and i havent had any problems with it so far which is great. Overall LG makes great tvs and video players so Im sure I will keep purchasing from them.

Great inexpensive blu ray player
Just got done setting up and trying out the player. Setup was a breeze once I replaced the dead battery that arrived in the box. Don't have a blu ray disc to try out yet, so tried a bit of "Prometheus", and was very impressed by the upconverted image. I think you get a lot of bang for your buck with this machine. I was disappointed that the owners manual is only on cd-rom, I don't know if thats standard now a days or not. I prefer a paper booklet owners manual myself. The other thing is when I inserted the cd rom owners manual in my computer nothing happened. I was able to see a list of 12 total files, but I was never able to view any owners manual period. I did send a help to lg and they replied with the owners manual in an attachement for me, which works. I was a bit confused about hooking the unit up to the internet. I thought, I hoped I guess, there were more than 1 hdmi jack in the back, and that if there was another it would go directly into my computer, but in reading the instrcutions you have to hook it up to a router/modem, I guess. I am not sure how badly I want to use the smart apps, will have to do some more researching it appears, but quite impressed so far...can't wait for a real blue ray movie to watch. My only disappointments would be the hookup for the bd aspect, and the owners manual only being on cd, ,and it not working on several attempts when I inserted it in my computer, but not a big deal really. And the dead rather cheap looking battery that came with the remote. Delivery was exactly on target too, it came when it was supposed to, early actually. Update, over the weekend I had my first experience with screen freeze and lockup while trying to watch "Total Recall." I went through 3 screen lockups/freezes before I gave up watching the last 30 minutes. I then went to LG's website to see what I could find out about this and it said it could be that the blu ray dvd is scratched. I looked at my copy and it did seem to be a bit dirty, and possibly scratched. I then cleaned the dvd, but did not feel like trying it again for a 4th time. I have watched quite a few movies so far, and a few were blu ray with NO lockups. This was the first time. If this continues to be an issue and the dvd's are not scratched and dirty and it continues it will be going back or sold as is and I will get a Panasonic blu ray player.

My First LG Purchase ... So Far, So Good!
Having to discard (I took it to Best Buy for free recycling) my 2nd Toshiba all-region DVD player (both players tend to "freeze up" over time) I wanted to see what was available on Amazon in the way of another all-region player. This model (I belived it was modified) came up and I remembered that standard DVDs can be played on a Blu-ray disc player, but not the reverse. I took a leap of faith and ordered the BP220 via an Amazon marketplace seller (considering there were no reviews for this player it really was a leap of faith!). I received it on time, it was easy to connect to my Sony Home Theatre system, and the images are amazing. What I was somewhat "bent-outta-shape-about" was the fact that no owner's manual or registration document was in the box. There was a "simple menu" (over-sized and multi-fold) in the box, but I want my owner's manual! I called LG's customer service number (in Thailand perhaps??) and spoke to two different men (on two successive days) who both told me they attempted three separate times (!) to e-mail me the manual, and to check my mail boxes and junk mail, because the manual was on it's way! Never got it. I went on LG's website and couldn't pull up a manual - but I was later informed that I entered the info incorrectly on the website. I printed it out and was very happy to have it because whatever you purchase usually includes a manual and you are advised to read the manual before using the product!!! (This policy is a growing "pet-peeve" of mine in that too many manufacturers believe everyone has a computer and/or smartphone, etc. and thereby, feel they can save a little money by not providing manuals. (I'm renting a Toyota Carolla while my Camry is in for repairs and there was no manual in the car. I was told that if I put my smartphone over the code on the driver's window, I could obtain a manual that way! Ex-scuu-se me, but I don't have a smartphone, and I question whether manufacturers are attempting to save trees ... or are they just cheap?!?) Never assume your customers have all the latest electronic toys! If manufacturers insist on listing on the cover page of manuals that the documentation should be read before you use the product (using the product incorrectly could void the limited warranty, etc.) THEN THEY SHOULD PROVIDE MANUALS! (I registered the player by phone, but if you don't receive any registration documentation you can register on-line.) So, as of this writing and having owned this LG (Life's Good) BP220 Network Blu-Ray/DVD/All-Region player since May 18th when it was delivered, I have no complaints and would most definitely recommend it!

Good quality video; Crude slow interface; Limited app support
I don't have any complaints about the quality of the video. Blu-ray is very good. However, I have heard that this is a common issue with many of the so-called "smart" devices - They are all trying to get "smart" in a non-smart way. They all try to invent their own "smart" platform which ends up way below our expectations that are set by the Android, Apple and Microsoft interfaces. I think this LG player does that too. LG's interface is slow, unfriendly and crude. I gather they don't make it too open for the apps to be able to support it. That must be why there is only a small number of apps available for it. My biggest disappointment was that Amazon Prime is not supported on this player. LG states that it was "Amazon's decision not to support it". I contacted Amazon and they merely said that this player is not currently supported. This link shows all the devices that are supported by Amazon Prime Videos ([...]). Until I can get the apps that I want, I can't call it "smart". It is a mere Blu-Ray player.

Buyer beware!!!
Junk. I had problems with the unit the first week - wouldn't play a brand new blue-ray disc. Now, 4 1/2 months later, it happened again with another brand new (new release redbox) disc and just tonight, stop responding to all remote and front panel controls with a third disc. Unplugging the unit and plugging it back in, then immediately ejecting the disc saved me from owing redbox for the disc or having to tear the unit apart to extract the disc. I don't expect miracles from these machines but this was used less than a dozen times before dying. Returned for warranty credit to Amazon. Save your money (unless you have an 80 inch 1080 HD tv) and buy 4 or 5 refurbished standard dvd players for 20 bucks each..looks exactly the same on a 50 inch tv from 14 feet away as any blue-ray.

Product Defective Out of Box - Returned for Refund
Based upon other positive reviews and reasonable price, I ordered this item. Unfortunately, the item was defective out of the box. It would freeze up repeatedly and could only be unfroze by unplugging and plugging back in. The equipment troubleshooting guide had no solutions other than to unplug it. Problem persisted and interrupted my ability to use the unit as it is intended. Returned to Amazon after one week for a refund. It seems I received a lemon. When the unit worked, everything was satisfactory. The menu is rather simple, but I wasn't looking for a fancy product, just something modern and reliable. I wouldn't directly dissuade others from trying this item since most reviewers on Amazon seem to have had good luck with it.
