Blue Power Carbolic Soap -4.4oz

The bar of soap while in its package without being exposed to water smells like sharpies. I didn't mind the smell at all, I quite like it actually lol. It does carry the scent all over the bathroom though. I have to keep it in its package in a drawer when not in use bc my partner doesn't like the smell. I actually love it though! Once the bar of soap touches water, gets sudsy, the scent changes to.. something reminiscent of liquid smoke. I love barbecue so I wasn't complaining. But the most amazing thing happened after rinsing the suds away. The scent that lingered on my body is the most subtle, powdery fresh fragrance. AND I am a bar soap HATER, as a person with habitually dry skin. But this soap left not a trace of sticky itchy film on my body. It rinsed completely clean and left me feeling quite pampered. I did not even need to apply lotion (I didn't want to cover up this lovely clean fresh scent yet!) and there was no irritation left whatsoever. I also feel immaculately clean. The bar produces tons of suds as well. I actually might be in love with this $6 bar of soap.

This is going to be an honest review and it may be TMI but hopefully this can help somebody like myself and actually talk about the soap rather than freaking TikTok or Marilyn Monroe 🙄. I live in the southern states, and it gets really hot here. For the last few months my armpits have been incredibly tender due to me having to scrub more because of all the hot weather. Regular antibiotic soap has not been working as it should and I start to smell very easily and sweat a lot. I'm not sure if they're changing the formula of my soaps that I've been using but I decided to give this soap a try. I did break the soap apart so I could use a small portion of it at a time and keep it sealed in a soap jar. It does smell, and I don't mind it but some of the reviews are right it does smell like medical herbs etc. I use the soap as intended, which is cleaning your body with it and then using a soap with a bit of perfume/sent afterwards. It's only been one day and I can tell this is going to be in regular rotation. I have sweat but my armpits are not sticky or irritated. My skin feels really clean and I don't smell. I could have really use this soap this past summer lol but I'm so happy I found it.

The soap is great. My husband loves it. Yes it's strong smelling but the smell doesn't linger after using. Like others, I only received one bar of the 30 pack that was ordered hence the one star review. I wish amazon could get this figured out. I hope I'm able to resolve this without having to pay $50 per bar! THIS IS MY SECOND ORDER WHERE I ONLY RECEIVED ONE OF THIRTY BARS. PLEASE FIX THIS!

I love this soap. It smells clean. Like my nana. Clean from the 1930's and on clean. Generations of cleanliness... You are captivated by the clean aromatherapy that takes me back to when I was with my nana and all was well. Plus, it cleans like nothing ever before, like your skin will show it's gratefullness and you'll appreciate it and reciprocate the taking care of your skin and the wonderful soap that allows the nostalgic tubs and showers! Love it and thanks so much for not changing a thing in all these years!

I'll cut straight to the point: the smell is... a smell. It's not overpowering to me, but it DEFINITELY lingers if you leave the bar out, so if you dont like the first layer of smell, probably put it in a baggy or something for safe keeping. "First layer?" That's the thing, it has layers of smell. The first layer is what throws people off, I think. The best I can describe it is like mild formaldehyde, or (for the medical people on here) TB skin injection solution. If you sniff longer than just a curious sniff, I got something like Liquid Smoke as a second layer, which another review on here did say something about. The third, however, is where it really comes together. It is this sweet, herbal, cleansing smell that is at the base of thr soap and what you will smell as you use it if you have a nose like mine. The more I smelled it, the more I liked it, but if I ever stopped smelling it, I'd have to fight my way through the first two layers to get back to the last. It's not a bad product. Honestly for bar soaps, it doesn't leave my skin super dry. I do feel clean by just lathering it on my hands, which is impressive considering I love to use a scrub cloth and go to town. The smell doesn't stick to my skin that I can tell either. That being said, if you buy it to use it, only use it maybe 2-3 times a week just because it being an antiseptic/antifungal soap, it can absolutely DESTROY your skin barrier and cause irritation. It hasn't done that to me with two uses, but it's a good warning to have. Marilyn Monroe might have used it and smelled like it, yes, but you have to remember that she was going through things and showered very minimally, so it made sense for her to use a soap that would get rid of odor and bacteria, but never damaged.

I'm choosing to give this product the two-star review because I bought it for the whole reason that I came across a video on YouTube from this girl's name that they was the soap that it smells so good that Marilyn Monroe use it and every time she walked into her and she can smell like this so now to clarify I was expecting it to smell good and pleasant when I receive this soap it has a very distinct smell such as medical it obviously looks like it's some kind of medicinal soap I did not use it to shower with because the moment I touched it with my bare hands and even you still a little bit of water it left my hands smelling like it for a long time and it's a very strong smell however it is not a beautiful smell it's not pleasant I mean if you are older or you don't mind the smell of meds I think it'll be fine but it is not a smell that a young girl would like to smell like as they're walking down the street. I was going to return it however my mother decided to keep it just because it helps according to her with any rashes or riches in the body so if you are looking for something that helps you maybe with dry skin or itchy skin this might be it but definitely not the soap to leave a nice fragrance on your body

To preface this, Ive never smelled carbolic soap before but got this because of an article saying this is what marilyn monroe used and did some more digging and that this would also help with my ever-persistent acne. So, upon opening, all i could smell was incredibly intense black printer ink. It definitely was an overwhelming scent as i expected, but i tried it nonetheless in the shower. Upon getting the bar of soap wet, the slight hint of red medicine scent i smelled previously got stronger and the black printer ink smell lessened for sure. Once rinsed off, my skin felt almost like wet rubber under the shower water if that makes sense, just intensely clean. I got out of the shower and i have NEVER felt so clean!!!! The smell now left all over me is a slight ink smell, as if i worked in a newspaper shop in the 50’s and also just bought a very freshly made nice leather bag. I can see where some think of it as a leathery smell now. Its subtle, but when my hands are next to my face, i can definitely smell it and honestly… i love it. Not my favorite smell, but the feeling of being so intensely clean is just beyond description. I recommend a good hydrating moisturizer for your face afterwards and definitely body lotion if using long term. Overall, its wonderful! Havent tried perfume over it yet, and an hour later, my skin still smells just like leathery printer ink. I’d definitely try some scents over this if you’re looking for the clean feeling but not a fan of the smell. After an hour, the smell does get a little much from smelling it frequently, so yeah probably scented hand & body lotion would be a good idea.

Old World scent! Why does this soap have such a familiar scent? I think most households during and after WWII had this soap/scent in their homes. I remember it everywhere up until the early 80's when this scent started to disappear. Personally, this is a great soap for camping, before a sweaty hike, or any other outdoor activity that would cause your fabrics to become stinky from sweat.
