Behringer HPM1000-BK Multi-Purpose Headphones

Every once in a while, I come across an item that, for my purposes, far exceeds even the bare minimum of expectation I could have. The Model HPM1000 Behringer Headphones are one such item. Prior to purchase, I researched numerous other brands and models.. ultimately choosing to gamble on these essentially out of sheer curiosity. And I am so glad I did! The feel of these headphones suit me well and I found them to be instantly comfortable. I noted the 3.5mm end and screw on 1/4" adapter were heavy to the feel and of a good build quality. Overall sound was above par (not perfect but heck for the price point, far better then most in-ear bullet type and on ear types for sure) Bottom line: For under $12 bucks (US) you absolutely cannot go wrong with these headphones for normal everyday use. If you are looking for super bass response or ultra high fidelity, then these are definitely not the way to go, but if like me, you just need some good monitor headphones for your mix board or something to plug in to your tablet to listen to music or a movie, at this price point you are assured a good deal - and after all, that is essentially what we all want... a good deal! And while not what I would call super high fidelity sound quality, the frequency response is "good" - bass is good, treble is good... no rumble etc. Overall build quality is also "good" - again, we are talking about a mass produced item primarily made of plastic and its incredible how good it feels and sounds right out of the box. I am confident in saying that at just $12 bucks you are going to have a really tough time finding anything better than these headphones. I'm glad I purchased them. And you will be too!

When I first took it out of the box, I was honestly not expecting much. It's super lightweight and feels as cheap as it is, but the sound quality is what blew me away. It's astonishing, really, especially for the price. A major plus is that the ear foam is really soft and doesn't make your ears ache no matter how long you wear it; I say this because I do a lot of work on the computer and actually wear it for several hours at a time. I have pretty sensitive ears and most headphones I've tried couldn't be worn for more than 30-40 minutes before my ears felt like they'd fall off (including the expensive). I've had them for about a week now and they seem pretty durable so far, but I only use them for in-home use on my computer, so just keep that in mind. I'll return to update if they break or stop working. Overall, seeing as I have yet to come up with any criticisms, they're definitely worth it. EDIT: It's been half a year and it's still working as if I just bought it! I've traveled with it a few times and it's still really good, which is surprising to me considering how bulky it is. It's essentially made of cheap plastic, but I've never been happier. EDIT 2: After about a year the right side stopped working, but it really took a lot of damage on my part for that to happen. I used these headphones almost daily for several hours, and it really served me well.

Well, I have to admit I am pretty harsh on my headphones. When I have a good pair of headphones, I will use them daily, favoring them over my laptop speakers and even my stereo. This means they get a lot of wear and tear, and if I'm being honest I rarely wrap the cord for storage in my computer bag. That is why I usually buy cheap headphones. I saw the Behringers for just over ten bucks, and with Amazon Prime shipping I really couldn't resist. NOTE: Now before going on to my review I wanted to point out that my order did in fact come with a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. The stock jack attached to the wire is an 1/8" regular headphone jack, the adapter turns it in to an 1/8" jack. This is NOT how the originals shipped out, but it is safe to say that you can now disregard the earlier reviews. BUILD QUALITY I have to admit the HPM1000's are relatively comfortable. These headphones sit nicely on my ears, and being adjustable it is not too hard to find the sweet spot for your head. The plastic has held up rather well so far, and the cushioning is pretty well attached. The adapter included seems rather nice, and screws on to the stock jack rather than snapping, which in my opinion is rather clever. The headphone wire is much thicker than anticipated, but this is definitely a beneficial feature - thin wire = breakage every time. AUDIO QUALITY Sound overall is surprisingly good. I have owned two pairs of sub-$15 headphones in the past year and a half. One was a USB gaming headset that I got during black friday sales (should have been $23.99) and the other a cheap pair of headphones from TJ Maxx. Out of the three, the Behringers are by far the nicest sounding headphones. Highs are clear and bright, midtones are decent and the lows are strong. I will say that overall these headphones favor the lower tones, almost too much. A quick adjustment of your computer/phone/mp3 player's software equalizer will fix this. I use Owl City's Fireflies as my go-to audio test - it has a broad range of tones - these headphones performed reasonably well. They are clearly not $200 BOSE headphones, nor are they AKG's, however for around ten bucks they are very decent. COMPLAINTS I don't really have any major complaints, at least, not any that are justified. I wish they would have used a less cheap-looking plastic overall, but then again you get what you pay for. I also wish that the cushioning breathed better - you will start to feel warm and clammy in the summer months with these things on! Again, I am sure when it comes to manufacturing these they weren't considering what would be better in terms of materials used. OVERALL If you are looking for a cheap pair of headphones, these are a fantastic choice for the price. I mean, let's be honest here, ten bucks won't even by you a decent lunch where I live! These headphones are relatively comfortable and they have a surprisingly nice sound for the price. Clearly it goes without saying that if you are looking for quality, your search doesn't end here. If however, like me, you don't feel like spending upwards of fifty dollars (or maybe you can't), then I can't find too many reasons for you to not go with these Behringer HPM1000s! Recommended for the price!

Update 27 Aug 2021 (see below for my original review): It's been over 2 years now of daily use around the house and I'm still extremely happy with the Behringer HPM1000 headphones - so much so that I put them on today and thought I ought to update this review. I see that the price has gone up, (currently $38 vs $13 when I bought them), and I'm honestly not surprised, I think they were a steal at the price I paid. I'm not an audiophile, but I enjoy making and listening to music and spoken word. I don't know what other headphones are available for $40, there may be better options, but I don't care. I'm happy with these, and you'll probably be happy with them too if you decide to buy. Also, since I didn't mention it in my original review, these are very comfortable for me. I wear them for hours at a time with no pain or discomfort. My only complaint is that my ears can get a bit warm and moist after several hours, but I just give them a break and let them air out for a few minutes and then I'm good for another round. Original review: I paid about $13 for these, and have no regrets. I've been using them daily at home for over a year now and they still look brand new. Read some of the other reviews and understand the meaning of "studio headphones" in terms of sound response, they have a fairly flat response unlike most headphones meant for music listening. That said, I listen to music with them unequalized almost daily and it honestly sounds fine to me, much better than in-ear buds that cost twice as much as these. In terms of durability, I treat mine pretty well, but have accidentally yanked on the cable/dropped them a few times and had no problems. They seem well-built for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another pair if needed.

Decent, considering the low price. Comfort - not bad. Fairly solid build & nice thick cord/cable (approx 6ft). A little material-noise while getting them settled on your ears (ear-pads sliding/rotating just a bit), then it seems fine. I had to turn up the volume just a little more than with other headphones, but fairly clean sound. Some preferred treble missing from these, but fortunately not "bass-boomy/bass-thumpy." Sound is, let's say, "gentle on the ears." Not bad for some instructional videos, but I'd prefer something with a little more treble (vs slightly warm and muffled) for listening to music. Overall, if you need something gentle on the hearing in an inexpensive but fairly well-made set of headphones, these might work for you. Hope this information helps.

Really like the Behringer HPM 1000 headphones. They have a soft comfy ear pads that can be worn for hours. There is a lot of room for the ear. Noise cancellation is super. The sound quality is perfect for lecture type of learning. They are great for anyone, including homeschoolers that are doing online curriculum They work great for online videos, or music listening as well. The cost of these headphones are a fraction compared to high end brands. They last a very long time before the pads wear out. Sometimes is cheaper to buy a new pair of headphones than it is to buy a new set of ear pads. The Behringer brand is very good all around.

I've used this brand and model of headphones before, and like them just fine. What usually happens to them is that the cord comes loose inside the ear piece, and they stop working. It's a big hassle to open them up and re-solder the wires, so I just get a new pair. The previous pair had decent sound quality. This latest pair is a little on the tinny side. They're definitely not great, if you're mixing music or doing something important with them, but for casual gaming or listening to a podcast or playing background music or whatever, they're just fine. I've had worse headphones that were twice this price, so when this pair gives up the ghost, I will get another just like them, if they're still available.

Bought this item in January 2020 to use in a Zoom on-line class. Because the the ear cups are deteriorating prompted me to search back in my Amazon orders and write this review. I made the decision to buy these headphones because of the brand name Behringer, decent reviews and value. They did work as advertised when I bought them, and they still work now, but the outside material of the ear cups are deteriorating, leaving back particles in and outside my ear after each use. As far as use and wear, I used them 2-3 times a week for 3 months for the class, and then used them sparingly ever since. Very disappointed in the ear hole surround material material is deteriorating. It should last longer than four years. I have old Panasonic headphones that are over 30 years old and the ear hole material is still good, so it can be done. I would not buy these headphones for long-term use unless you only need a cheap pair of headphones for a short time and are going to dispose of them after.

Very poor sound. I know you get what you pay for, but I needed a quick replacement set until my main set arrived and I found them unusable. The echo, crackle and poor clarity was very disappointing from a brand I have used many times with no complaints.

I might not have to give 5 Star cause there might be better options out there.. but you have to pay a lot there.. here this one is good value for money I'm totally happy

Here's a quick review from a professional audio engineer, record producer and keen listener. So why am I bothering with sub-$20 headphones at all? Read on... I paid $16 CDN for these. The purchase was a complete gamble, just a bit of fun I put in to "top up" an order. I have owned a pair of Behringer 3000 headphones that have done (and are still doing) sterling service for over ten years. They are not the best-sounding headphones by any means, but fine for quick audio checks. I couldn't resist these HPM1000s at the price, since I wanted another set of cheap headphones sitting about for plug-in and testing duties. Well, I'm amazed. Let me first say that when testing audio I always EQ the feed from my player to create a frequency-balanced sound to start. Almost no headphones available have a 'flat' frequency response, at any price, so I give them a helping hand! I know that's not a true test of these as they are supplied, but if you are able to do the same, they are a remarkably nice-sounding headphone at the price. Naturally rather too dark-sounding; lift the highs above about 2kHz and you'll be rewarded with good detail, surprisingly accurate mid's and a very musical listening experience. The bass frequencies are nicely balanced, and go low, with a decent amount of dynamics. Imaging is very good. Joni Mitchell's DJRD is sounding very enjoyable...in fact the drum kit entry towards the end of Paprika Plains has just surprised my with it's impact and depth! Build quality is fine for the price, but I'm sure they wouldn't withstand too much abuse. A screw-on 1/8 to 1/4 adapter is supplied, and a non-detachable sturdy 2 metre cord. Very lightweight, too. Not much spill from the closed-back design. If you need a set (or a few sets) of cheap headphones that are going to be treated well and live an easy life, I've not heard better than these at less than $40. I think they might be a good fit for TV listening, too. I suspect that the EDM "bassheads" might be disappointed, however. Remember, these are cheap, probably quite delicate, and will sound too dark unless you have EQ available. I also only tested one set, so I have no idea what the quality control is like, and hence the consistency between sets. I think I'll be buying another set soon, though. If only I could have bought a pair of headphones for the price of three beers when I was starting out in audio! These are golden days for gear... I hope this has helped someone, and happy listening!

First of all, Amazon service. In this era, even your own best friend will deny to help you with any means, Amazon helped me with 1%(amount doesn't matter) of amount to buy this headphone when I was in short of money. Amazon Won my heart. Actually I ordered Behringer HPM1000 at Rs 1290. But the seller "Cambium" cheated me & sent me a defective 'last piece'. But Amazon returned & refunded to my Amazon account. The new seller 'AE' sold at 1300 INR(though its a scam. The original price tag was erased and a fake one with 1500INR was attached). So I was in short of Rs 10 (no credit card & COD combination). This piece was working fine. Those who complain about the sound quality & compare it with Senheiser HD & Sony, please, these headphones are not for you people. This is a studio monitoring headphones, & so it produces pure 'unadulterated' sound without that fake bass. I am a musician & I am really in love with this headphone. I got this at 1300 INR. 1. The built quality is not that good but its worth the price & its going to last long if handled with care. 2. It has super dynamic range. I can hear quiet parts and loud parts of music crystal clear. 3. Frequency response is practically impressive. I didn't expect in this price range. I tested with frequency generator & it could deliver 25Hz-15000Hz+ (equal to my natural hearing efficiency)very smoothly so I could hear those little minute parts and percussions very clear in a song what I couldn't in either my speakers or earphones. 4. Most important it offers a flat sound without any audible flaws in any band. 5. Noise isolation is descent due to being over the ear. 6. This is a over-the-year headphone means your ears fit inside the cup, so my ears didn't pain even after 4-5 hours of continuous usage unlike Sennheiser & Sony on-the-ear headphones of this range that make the ears pain red like hell after 1 or 2 hours. Its doesn't trouble even while sleeping wearing it. 7. The wires are well made, thick, durable, with 90° bent plug. 8. I also got a 6mm stereo jack adaptor that is useful to connect with audio interface. 9. I don't know why the sellers erase the original price tag and put a fake price sticker themselves that says "its much expensive than you got it for". Its 21st century & we are not fools, not psychologically nor physically. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. I don't regret going for Behringer HPM1000 over Sennheiser HD, or Sony. These headphones are purely value for money and it offers pure sound at such an affordable price.
