My amazing new Internet radio speakers!
I don't frequently write reviews, but I'll make an exception for the Big Jambox since it was a perfect purchase, made almost a month ago. I was looking to replace my antiquated Roku Soundbridge and Logitech speakers Internet radio system. It struck me that with the evolution of technology, all dedicated and centralized Internet radio systems are headed towards obsolescence. Nowadays if you want to support the widest variety of Internet audio sources, you need to go for a universal client with a large installed base, such as PCs, Apple or Android devices. Personally, I listen to music from Youtube, Mixcloud and Live365, as well as my own MP3 collection ripped from CDs I own. My solution was to pair a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and a Big Jambox, for a totally mobile, high quality, future proof Internet audio system. The Bluetooth pairing process itself was extremely simple, both with the Galaxy Note and my Toshiba laptop. In terms of audio quality, the bandwidth used by the connection is 328 Kb/s, more than enough to cope with high quality audio. Beyond my criteria for the purchase of this product, here are some relevant comments that may help you select the Big Jambox: - Overall audio quality: the Big Jambox beats my old Logitech PC speakers, hands down. Comparing to the competing Bose product, the difference isn't as marked. Truth be told, I can hardly tell the difference, except that Bose seems to pack more punch with the bass. Having said that, I'm listening to the new James Bond Skyfall theme by Adele, and the quality of the bass as well as the rendition of Adele's marvelous voice sent shivers down my spine! However, a factor worth considering is that the Big Jambox seems to absolutely excel in smaller spaces, like a bedroom. I can confidently say that I have NEVER heard such wonderful, rich, sound in a small space. My g/f was blown away too, from pop to jazz, the Big Jambox shines when filling a small room with music. - Mobility: I can leave my Galaxy Note in the living room and carry the Big Jambox to my bathroom, behind two sets of brick walls, 10 m. away, and the streaming audio still works perfectly. Ambient audio while shaving, pure luxury! The battery life is solid. I'm not a heavy user, but I have never managed to run down the battery. Recharging once a week seems to work for me. The unit itself is the size of a brick and seems well built, though when traveling I'll try to carry it within its original packaging. The Big Jambox beat my expectations and I consider it one of my best buys ever when it comes to electronic equipment.

Great Product.
Got the little jambox and was impressed by its sound/size- but really needed more "oomph". The small jambox is great for offices/one room situations. if you want something to bring to the beach/camping/tailgating, or even as a soundsystem in your house-the Big Jambox is the way to go. I have an iphone 4S-pairing is a cinch. I'd recommend hooking the unit up to your computer and doing any necessary updates and set your settings. you can download an "app" for the jambox that allows you to access Siri from the speaker. this is great if you have your iPhone in another room and want to make a call/change the song/artist etc. As for the sound quality. its pretty amazing. Good bass for a small dock. no "tinny" sound to any type of music i tested (jazz, rock, live concerts, rap, etc). Actually has a setting for any live music you have-kinda like a built in equalizer. not sure if its THAT significant-but at least there's a variation (unlike bose). I'm a Bose guy (own the Soundock 10) and contemplated using the Bose Bluetooth speaker over this- i chose the Big jambox for the phone capabilities. the sound is equal to that of the Bose and i got my Big Jambox for $249 on sale- $50 less than the bose. Battery life is solid- i THINK the jambox goes into some sort of standby mode as i have left it on all day- and the battery icon (the jambox batterly life icon shows up on the iPhone!) has barely moved. Using as a speakerphone was quite impressive. people i called said it sounded like i was on a speakerphone-but the callers were impressed that they could hear me so clearly (and from about 10ft away!). I could hear them no problem as the speaker does a great job amplifying the call. Also great when you get a text/email alert/notification-you can hear the sound from the other rooms of your house if you don't have your phone on you. As for the bluetooth- appears to be pretty solid- same level seems to be ok- if i have the iphone on one floor and the jambox on the other- i will start to hear some distortion. same level and you're good to probably about 40 ft. The build quality is pretty solid. I am a bit annoyed that the "Travel Case" for this device is $50.00. I think you'll want this if you plan on taking it camping/to the beach, etc.. So far i'm very impressed. Will report back if i have any issues/problems.

Utter Brilliance in a Brick...
Let me make this (relatively) quick and simple for you. The Jawbone BIG JAMBOX is an excellent speaker of superior quality. I did some extensive research because $300 is a lot of money to shell on out anything given the average income. HOWEVER, I have NEVER been more impressed and let me tell you why: 1) The sound. The other reviews are correct. The bass may not meet your standards BUT if you mess with the EQ it will make a HUGE difference. Also the bass will sound better in an enclosed room, obviously. The mids/highs are mindblowingly incredible. I honestly could not be more impressed from a machine this small. 2) The LiveAudio feature is sweet. Again, in the right room the LiveAudio will sound better in a small room but still noticeable from the regular speaker option. In my college dorm room, I felt like I was at a concert with its 3D like sound. I don't know how it works but it does! 3) Aesthetically pleasing! By looking at it or holding it, you know you have purchased a device branded with quality. I bought the White Wave or whatever and the few buttons on top add for unique simplicity. Which leads me to my next point. 4) Simple. The Bluetooth was found and connected in a matter of seconds. ALSO, if you have trouble connecting to a MacBook Pro or other Apple device, I don't know why...It connected to to my My 1y/o MacBook Pro and played music with EASE! The buttons are easy to navigate and figure out without the book but it's still useful to read. 5) Portability. Many people complain this isn't portable enough. Well compared to the Bose Soundlink, it's not that much bigger and it can easily be put in a backpack. I even put it in the center of my hoodie pocket with ease. I was on the line with the Bose Soundlink and the BIG JAMBOX and figured I'd be more satisfied with louder, clearer, crisper sound than a product who only offers good bass. If you're a bass junkie it might not be the right product but if you can sacrifice just a LITTLE bass for more powerful sound than the BIG JAMBOX is the product you're looking for. Hope this helps.

Crowd pleaser
I bought this item a little over a year ago and it has done wonders for me. No it can't make my breakfast but it can certainly make cooking a lot more enjoyable. I'm going to review what the consumer really wants to know. Battery: The battery on this monster is too good to be true. It only takes about 2 hours(minimum) to charge completely from dead to fully charged. It can last up to hours maybe even days(depending on how frequently you use it) till its needs to be charged. Me and my buddies use it all the time at least 3 hours 2 times a week. Also, you can always charge while you play music so you're safe. Audio quality: For the size and the power it can hold, i have to say it's one of the best mobile speakers I've had. I don't know the specs but i can certainly tell you from experience this speaker can pack a punch. It can get pretty loud and what I love about it most is it doesn't give the speakers a crackling noise that most mobile speakers tend to do. The quality stays up to par no matter what volume it's set to. Overall: I absolutely love this speaker. Yes, it has some weight and is rather BIG but honestly it's easily packable. I take this guy wherever I go that can certainly use some music. All my friends give it compliments and request for me to bring it every time. If you are looking for a speaker that delivers quality sound at a fairly loud volume, this is the speaker for you.

Beware ...... BIG JAMBOX is UNRELIABLE !
First some background on myself: I am a computer engineer with a passion for music and have listened and played (guitar and keyboard) with all kinds of gear for over forty years. Through the years I have even built my own speaker systems so I have a some experience with audio equipment. I have been enjoying the BIG JAMBOX for two summers and was very happy with its performance. This amounts really to a single year of usage -- in winter I mostly play musical instruments or listen to music through my component hi-fi system. I felt the speaker offered good balance of bass, mid and high frequencies, small footprint and a good six hours of continuous play. After the first summer I purchased a second unit as a gift for a friend and also recommended it to my son-in-law who bought another unit. Well, my enthusiasm for the Big J collapsed: On a family gathering last week I brought the speaker along with my iPad and after a couple hours of music the speaker started making rattling noise when driven by jazzy tracks with lower end bass. After some tests it was clear to me that the either the built-in amp circuitry was defective or, more likely, that a woofer cone was cracked. With little hope I contacted Jawbone's technical support. They opened a ticket for me and suggested a series of tests to determine the source of the problem. Eventually they arrive to the conclusion I already knew: the Big J experienced a hardware problem and, I was told, they were unable to help me because the warranty already expired. I always treated the unit with care so it's been quite unexpected to learn about its failure in such a short time. No doubt in my mind we are dealing with a BAD DESIGN issue. In all these years of playing music this is the first time I experienced a woofer cone rupture using powered speakers. The reason is that its own built-in power amp limits (or SHOULD limit) the amount of wattage to drive the speaker, so to have this kind of breakdown in such a short time is inexcusable. I should have paid more attention to the bad reviews before shelling out almost $300 for this failure-prone product. Now I need to find a replacement to Big Jambox. Good candidates appear to be Bose SoundLink III (great sound, very small footprint but more expensive) and Logitech UE 984 (very good sound, unbeatable price but large footprint). One thing for sure: I will never buy a Jawbone product again!

small box BIG sound
I am the type of person who never writes reviews unless a product is extremely horrible, but this speaker is the one exception. When I first got the jambox out the design really impressed me, it looks quite modern, and the whole thing is about the size of my shoe. Also it was really easy to set up right out of the box, I just plugged it in, hit the pair button, chose it on my ipad, and it was set up! Then I started out by listening to a classical song which sounded amazing with balanced bass, clear mids, and crisp highs. Then I decided to try out the live audio feature, and I was instantly impressed. Right off the bat I heard music all around me, then when I listened closely, I heard a piano playing on my left side, some violins on my right side, and cellos in the middle, It was amazing! Shortly after I went off to my youth group and just threw the jambox in my backpack. when I got there I decided to test the limits of this thing so instead of using the chapel sound system, I just turned on the Jambox and played some music off my ipad at full volume (no distortion noticed). When I went to the other side of the chapel (50 ft) the jam box sounded just as loud and good as it did when i was right next to it (might have helped that it was against a wall). So I ended up "DJing" the youth group (100 kids) with nothing but the jam box and it was plenty loud. I also got alot of comments from people about how good it sounded, and also some people wondering where they could buy their own. Later that night I went on the mytalk website and found it very easy to navigate. I immediately went to settings and turned off the annoying voice prompts. Now I am sitting in front of my computer typing a review while I listen to dubstep (which also sounds good on this). Well... It's been a wonderful first afternoon with the Big Jambox, and I look forward to many, many more. So if you are thinking of buying this speaker, just do it, because it will not disappoint. No...seriously, stop reading the comments and go click the BUY NOW button. Why are you still reading the comments. k bye

Each of the units above had something good and bad enough to return
I recently compared the Roar 2, Soundlink III, Soundlink Mini II, Sonos Play 1, Amazon Echo, Sony Srx55 and the Big Jambox side by side in my home. Out of all the units the Big Jambox was one of the least offensive. Each of the units above had something good and bad enough to return. At the moment, the Big Jambox's only real dig is that the bass doesn't hit as low as the Bose units. But Bose bass is flubby room filling sound. The Jambox has the best clarity and highs (like the Sony & less extent Roar 2) that the Bose units don't have, so when listening to lower volumes the clarity is much appreciated when watching shows. Also the bluetooth doesn't cause video delays in Netflix streaming from an iPad. This is a huge problem on the Sony unit and a minor problem on the Echo unit. Overall, if it wasn't for the bluetooth video delay of the Sony unit, it'd be #1 in the group, but this is a huge defect if you watch video, but NOT a defect is just using the unit for music. The Jambox is the overall #1. It doesn't do anything bad for what it is, other than want more bass. Volume gets loud enough and the mids, lows, highs ramp up evenly as you turn the dial up. The Soundlink III is an alternative of you want more room filling bass. It's not quality bass, just flubby bass equalized to sound big. The mids and highs sound veiled, but acceptable enough. At low volumes, it still is a room filler and the mids are intelligible enough. It's $120 more than the Jambox so that is a huge negative on it. The Sonos Play 1 is the best compromise with the best tighter bass, and better highs/mids than the Soundlink, but not as crisp up top like the Jambox, Sony, Roar2 in that order. Honestly, this is the #1 unit but disqualified since it doesn't carry bluetooth--a big need for me. The Amazon Echo has really good mids relative to the competition and just enough bass and loudness. A good, inooffensive unique product that may be #1 on your list if you love it's side voice features. It isn't portable for the beach since it carries no battery. And videos carry a smidge of lag in voices with bluetooth but totally forgiveable and unnoticeable for all but the most critical. The Roar 2 has more features like SDcard input for your music and recorder and the sound is clear and even, but the bass from the passive radiators sound like crap if you play with an equalizer too much...much more than the other units. The unit is ugly and when placed in the more appropriate vertical position versus its belly, the power cord shows a lot. It wasn't a standout in any dept. like the other products, except for features that you may care about like the SDcard input, etc IMHO, all these units are compromised in a way. Just keep in mind that their size and sound quality disallows them from being anything more than a background sound toy for the beach or patio. These aren't replacements for a larger/more proper sounding "boom box" (like the top-rated Brookstone Big Blue Party, Fluance Fi50, Klipsch KMC3) or a home sound system. Their one-handed portability is their value proposition Next up, I'm ordering a Marshall Acton, Damson Vulcan, and Wren Airplay units to compare. These units are bigger so they should also sound bigger. The Damson is smaller/portable and could be a great contender based on Youtube reviews and UK Amazon ratings from users. The Denon Envaya(slightly better than Bose/less expensive), JBL Charge 2 with updated firmware 1.41, Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio(big), and Riva Turbo(expensive) units also get overall raves and may be worth a look....but honestly, I've already tested some of the best on the market, so I'm sure it'll be more of the same and not be wowed by any of them.

A faithful customer
I've had this product faithfully for 3 years now. It has been so good to me. I've even bought a case for it to travel. We've gone everywhere together including my year abroad in China, it was with me, when I went to Cali for the summer, it was there with me, when I am at home in DC, it was there with me and even at school in PA, it's been there. The sound of it is amazing, the battery lasts a good 10 hours or so. Charging it takes about an hour to fill up. If you leave it out in the cold long enough, the battery will drain (true story) One major downside is the build. Let me tell ya something. Don't drop this thing. It will easily dent. I have a few dents in both the corners and on the front of this speaker due to recklessness. And now just recently, I just noticed. I dropped my speaker on the side where it has the buttons and the bluetooth button seemed to be hit and now its bulging out. No matter how hard I press that thing, the button is not responding. Seems to not work anymore because of my drop. The speaker still works, I can use an aux but how annoying is that? I have a few items paired with it that will work with bluetooth, but now I can no longer pair new devices. What a bummer. With certain older devices like my MBP Mid 2012, the bluetooth is a bit shaky for it doesn't always pair even when I choose it. It's probably my device but be weary if you are pairing old devices. Like I said it still works, but idk if I will buy another one due to the build quality.

Nice solid product
Nice solid product. But its a bit dated now. Sounds great, good battery life. Other systems like Marshall sound a bit better but terrible battery life.
