Perfect for an older subaru!
Finally I found a stereo that will fit into the original factory opening in my 1992 Subaru Loyale, normal cd players would stick out like 2" which would make you hit your knuckles every time you shifted. This one is perfect and the best part is it doesn't have a ridiculous cd player. Who has cds now days anyways with pandora,r hapsody, and itunes. Its very simple and very to the point but the sound is good and you can even hook an amp and sub up to it.

Average Mechless Receiver w/ misleading Amazon description
First off please note that this unit DOES NOT HAVE A DETACHABLE FACEPLATE as stated in the Amazon description. As for the unit itself, its not that bad actually. It drives 160 Watts and sounds good to me compared to the previous reviewer. The unit is very light as it doesn't have a cd player. And if you are going off the illustration of the unit used here, there are a few asthetic points you should note: The display is closer to a yellow/green than the green shown. And the illustration shows glossy operation buttons with a silver/chrome metallic looking ring surrounding it, both of there are missing on the actual product. The entire face is a semi-matte black. I do like that the unit looks more OEM than aftermarket, and blends well with the dash and green illumination of my truck. The display relies on a LCD scrolling system for displaying MP3 tag info, which is typical of these type of units. As for the SD/USB operation. I'm not one to use subfolders or playlists, so I can't comment on navigating the system. One important thing to note though, is if you sync your music using Windows Media or Itunes, which creates folders with album art, etc. for each song, it may cause a misread if you have too many folders on the drive. I tried a 4gb SD card with approx 360 songs and it wouldn't read it, and then tried again with only the mp3s on the card and it worked fine. Overall the performance is good, I think if you have good speakers, you'll be happy. Big dissapointment that the faceplate isn't detachable. But for $48 it looks and performs well, and looks stock enough that thieves will probably mistake it as such. Update: I've used the unit for a few days now and have noticed a few things: The AM on the tuner has poor sound, very tinny, even for AM. Reception on the AM band isn't great either, but passable with strong signals. The random feature for the USB/SD slots is truely random, so you may get duplicates of the same song. Not a big deal, but worth note. The remote works well, no real limit in range from what I've seen. I do like that the major control buttons are closer to the drive. The EQ settings aren't bad, but I recommend turning it off and manually ajusting bass and treble to your liking.

Nice little unit
On the listing it said this fit my dash, It did not so I had to "modify" it a lot. But it is in and sounds really good. Nice for the price.

Poor sound, bad display
I had no use for a CD player (does anyone anymore?) in my 91 Miata, and given how inexpensive many of these digital media receivers are (and how often CDs used to skip with my old stereo), this type of unit seemed perfect... but Pyle screwed the pooch on this one. First, the good: the buttons are laid out very well. The most used controls are closest to the driver (volume, track forward/back) and all the miscellaneous buttons are easy enough to locate. I like the overall look of the thing as well - very understated without looking cheap. The controls are finished with a matte plastic, so it's not a magnet for fingerprints. Onto the sound: I don't like using EQ on anything, but for some reason "flat" is an equalized preset on this unit. "EQ off" sounds terribly muddy, with over-hyped bass and very subdued treble (like an old speaker). Oddly this works okay for drowning out wind/road noise compared to the flat preset, and I could give them the benefit of the doubt that it was part of the design (but I won't). "Flat" is close to the way it should sound but again, this is an EQ preset, and what a crappy EQ this thing uses. Trebles are either harsh or nonexistent, and EQing the bass just makes it boomy. Not only that, you can't actually adjust bass/treble levels when a preset is selected (including "Flat"), so you're stuck with the EQ off if you want to make any adjustments to the sound. All the other presets are simply awful sounding. To top it all off, for a device designed for playing mp3s, it doesn't work all that well. Track numbers will get moved around (track one will play before track 10) and songs with a lot of dynamics tend to clip - possibly due to an underpowered amp. The display doesn't help. The large text is easy to read, but very few characters will be displayed at once. It scrolls track names (which still get cut off if they're more than 14 characters long) along with the album title and file name constantly, and there's no way to turn the scrolling off or have it only display the song title. When changing tracks, only the file number is displayed (track names come up after a few seconds of playback), so unless you know all your albums intimately it's hard to find a specific track. I owned better mp3 players in the 1990s. Also, the display isn't really green. It's closer to yellow which doesn't match anything, including my green dash lights, and it's too bright. Naturally, there's no way to dim the backlight. I'd return this POS immediately if it weren't for two things: one, I had to bend part of the DIN sleeve to make it fit in my car (specific to my application); two, there aren't many good options out there for digital media receivers. The XR4110 is cheaper, but is only 15 watts per channel. The Boss units, judging by the reviews, don't recognize folders, so forget organizing/finding your music. There's the Sony DSX-S100, but it's over twice the price. In retrospect, it's probably worth it. So my recommendation: don't buy this. If you do, don't be an idiot like I was and test it *before* you install.

nice inexpensive upgrade. Great features.
I installed this as a replacement for an old 1970's radio on a motorcycle. Since it's outdoors in wet conditions sometimes, there is also a "marine cover" snap-lid that keeps the rain out. It sounds great, wires up easy, and has great features like SD and USB for make-your-own playlist. Display is easy to read, both daytime in the sunlight and nighttime with the backlight.

Mine Plays Great
Got this in 2 days, and I am not a prime member anymore. I did not like that it was left by my door and it was only in the factory box with the pictures and info all around except the side covered with the address label, lucky i got it. but its ok, i hooked it up and its fine, I will use it mainly with usb flash sticks, and the remote is perfect to select and advance to various songs, since I put them on the usb I know where to go.I got a great deal on this, thank you.

Not marine grade
As far as functionality and music quality, it's Ok. But as far a weatherproof (marine), it's terrible. I honestly think it's no better than a standard auto unit. I've installed two of these, neither one lasted more than a year. Only reason I bought them was cost was low and there wasn't any moving parts. Bought a Kenwood unit that is still running strong after 2 years.

It fills the hole in my dash nicely, and keeps time.
Mostly works as it's supposed to for my purposes. Its reception of radio is not as strong as the unit it replaced, and the directory feature on the SD slot doesn't work well at all. Random works, but it unlike the shuffle most would be used to in that you can't reply the last track. When you hit back it just jumps to another random song.
